Our culture has changed significantly between 1970 and 2013, and the military has too for that matter. Back then, we had a draft going on, and much more civil unrest than we have now. Also, from my own experience from when I was in the Guard (retired back in 2010), the troops and officers are much more civic minded and community oriented than they were back then, and also much more willing to think independently instead of just blindly following orders.

The members of the American military are being filtered with the question, "If your commander-in-chief orders you to fire on American citizens on American soil, will you do it?" If I understand this correctly, it should be against the Constitution to use the US military against its own citizens so they're creating a new military sworn to uphold the presidency rather than the Constitution.

Or so they think. There will be no way to know until push comes to shove, just how many of those who said they would fire on American citizens on American soil were saying so just because that is what the powers that be wanted to hear. They may have felt morally obligated to lie in order to help preserve a military that will do the right thing and defend the Constitution and their fellow citizens from all threats foreign and domestic, when and if such a time when it is necessary to point their weapons at traitorous leaders comes to pass.

I can just imagine this conversation taking place as I am being abducted in a black Choplifter helicopter being taken to some hidden training facility...

"So, Scarletdown. Due to your exemplary performance on the Asteroids machine at the Truck Corral in Baker, Oregon back in March of 1980, you have been selected for our exciting new Asteroid Defense Initiative."

"You're kidding. I always sucked horribly at Asteroids. I even frequently got creamed by the big flying saucer... The BIG one! How lame is that?"

"Not according to our records. We have evidence that you scored 72,000 on that day, which you affirmed by signing the scoreboard as SCA. Your score was second only to the legendary FUK, who exceeded a quarter million. Because of your performance, you will be commanding one of our new Asteroid Demolition Assault Craft."

The whole article is that the cops believe that at least one of them did it, but due to the nearly identical DNA, they can't determine which one was the culprit. This entire discussion is nothing more than empty speculation on something never mentioned in the story.

I have some hope that a return of the original main characters and under solid new direction with writers not hampered by Lucas's problems and desire to transform Star Wars from Hidden Fortress In Space to some sort of political statement, this new trilogy can at least recapture some of the old spirit.

I believe that said transformation actually began before ESB hit the screens, and 2 years after ANH came out. I distinctly recall that the third time ANH made the rounds, the scene with Han and Greedo was cut short. Immediately after Han says "Yes, I bet you have," the scene cut away to the bickering among the brass scene on the Death Star. So not only did Han not shoot first in that version, he didn't shoot at all.

For years, I thought that perhaps that was just a damaged spot on that particular copy of the film that my theater had received. But when the "Greedo shot first" incident came about, that put that other incident in a whole new light.

The correct course of events that should happen is that the group that develops the Python language should protest the trademark application and present their evidence.
