Those popup ads that the Times of India link is spraying, that aren't blocked by Javascript window suppression in Firefox or Mozilla -- is there a way to get rid of them? I've seen them elsewhere (interestingly, always on foreign newspaper sites) but web searches only turn up people complaining about them, only to have jackasses insist that they must be spyware-infected because Firefox is infallible. (As I type this I'm realizing what answer I'm likely to receive, but nonetheless...)
The details of negating Firefox's popup blocker are well known, some advertisers use/abuse this some do not yet. But there are definately a growing number of advertisers that are doing just that.
Aside, housing was always a problem, since when you placed a house, even a stupid twig would stop you from bein able to place it. Plus it didn't help that the land had to be "flat"
Of course that didn't stop many areas from looking like a trailer park. A very very dense trailer park with everyone and their blocked in polar bears shouting "get off my lawn!".
I can understand being against having gambling facilities in your state, and even punishing someone for starting one - because their aim is to take the money of others.
Oh but this is not the case. There are casino's are all over the place. There's at least 4 large casino's that I know of within a short drive of Spokane and many more within the city.
I suppose the fact that it got modded offtopic has a lot to do with why Al Lowe is history and rancid low res sex and shooting hookers in the face is king.
I mean except for Al Lowe's brand of rancid low res sex.
It could be argued that Wikipedia has failed to demonstrate the feasibility of this concept.
It could be argued that Wikipedia has demonstrated the futility of this concept. Everyone thinks they are an expert, when in fact, the experts left this town a long time ago.
People, especially in the poor couuntries, are running pirated software because they otherwise would run no software at all. And, if with this pirated software, they manage to bootstrap their own situation, or that of their business out of the netherlands they become much more likely to buy and pay prices for non-pirated software.
Exactly, computers are the new industrial revolution and if developing nations want to compete or participate at all they're going to "steal" it.
Just like the United States did during the industrial revolution.
It's not too surprising that the government would use off-the shelf solutions for electronic devices. After all, there aren't many circuit boards made in the United States still, are there? How much does Texas Instruments produce domestically for instance?
That and they spend hundreds of millions on less complex tools that never materialize into a real application.
Every popular Operating System developed in the past 15 years (and then some) apart from Linux has been either a microkernel or a hybrid kernel.
Exactly, Linus doesn't know what he's talking about. He should know better than to be posing as some kind of credible source. Someone should write him an e-mail and let him know that he should have defered to someone more knowledgeable.
it could very well be true. I don't know enough to comment.
Exactly. Companies are always doing this sort of thing. There's a carrier in our area that was requireing you to pay an extra $5 a month for caller ID data... Excuse me, $5 a month to not strip that data from your phone. They went to the trouble of removing it for everyone so they could charge to add it back.
I feel like someone shat in my well so they could sell me bottled water.
The delivery was pretty bad in places. It's really something that the games/controller are strong enough that the presentation was interesting in spite of the long pauses, missed lines and mistakes. (I wonder what it is like walking around looking so angry all the time?;)
If the games are as fun as they looked this is going to be a pretty good few years for Nintendo.
Of course, maybe that's why they "stole" the motion detection from the Wii?
I think it is worth mentioning that the Sony controller is a poor pretender to the Wii's technology. An accelerometer (PS3's tech) will tell you the controller has moved some direction, which is fine. At least until you need to reorient the controller to a comfortable position. There are good reasons accelerometers haven't got a lot of attention outside of the occasional fishing title.
The Wii (from reading press releases anyway) knows the location and orientation of the controller at all times.

Another hollywood movie with absolutely no substance, and being based off a video game will probably condemn it to begin with. Does the MPAA actually blame pirating for declining sales?
The MPAA will mutter once in a while that lousy movies might have something to do with it. Apparently their member studio's are unconvinced.
If the "Portland Project" does not have sufficient Cowboy Neil there is no way it will be of any use to me.... Yes, I am quite aware that "Ask Slashdot" is not the same as a "Slashdot Poll".
Funny how that works, my lowish end a year ago x700 plays Oblivion just fine at 1280x1024. Turning off (or in my case impossible to enable) HDR may make your game very smooth and still looks great
I was real skeptical when it came out, maybe I was a bit jaded, but it was largely Bethesda who was responsible for making me so. Turns out, Oblivion is a pretty decent game with some modest caveats. I'm really happy MS made them put another 3 months in before releasing it.
Getting stuck is real easy, enough so that they should have put something in the UI to work around that.
The lip syncing is really hard to look at. If I could turn it off I would.
Oblivion gates... I am getting the impression that there are 16 of these things I will have to close? I haven't done it, but it looks like I am going to have to go run the same/similar ganuntlet 16 times before I finish the game. I'll keep playing, but I won't be at all suprised if by the 5-6th tower I run the uninstaller or start looking for a "fun" mod to play. For myself, this kind of repetative time sink is largely what keep me from finishing games. In this respect, what Jerry said about craftsmanship rings true to me.
The embargo and lack of review copies is a good indicator that a game has problems. As is, overwhelmingly positive "reader reviews" showing up within an hour of daybreak on the east coast aren't a good sign either. I didn't notice it before hand, but they never show you more than a few meters around you in their screen shots? There's a really good reason for that...
I'm not saying it sucks, I've not even played it (I will buy it, eventually). But I did play some of their other games. Morrowind got into a playable "ready for release" state about the time the first expansion came out. Kind of a bummer for the XBox players who got told things like "Start over, maybe the main quest won't break the next time through." Daggerfall, never did become a workable title. I know people (two anyway) that won't play their games anymore because of this title. This is, I think, the kind of game Bethesda would release if it weren't for Microsoft's hand in the mix.
Now I buy games based off the demo. Some games never get a demo. I can only presume that they never solidified into a state someone might enjoy enough to pay for.
But this thing is ugly, it's SLOW and it doesn't seem to be anywhere NEAR Photoshop.
Maybe the point is to have an integrated package that will make ready to use UI elements for Vista applications? Part of that was developing some image editing functionality.
I'm not going to stand behind that, just to kick an idea out there. With the complexity of the new UI it seems reasonable to me that MS would want to put an integrated solution out there.
There's really nothing wrong with a chiropractor treating back pains. The problem comes when a chiropractor tries to treat migrains, the common cold, ulcers, and even irritable bowel syndrome. Scientifically, you might as well drink chinese tiger penis soup to get a stiffy.
Just goes to show there are a lot of quacks out there abusing other people's hard work and good information.

Oh Christ, with a link and everything.

Sure enough.
Is there any video of the show out there?

Besides, I thought ClearType was an OS-wide, on/off
That is one of the really, *really* cool things that is being introduced with IE7, being able to apply font smoothing on a per application basis.
Microsoft also has a control panel plugin available to set the amount of smoothing if someone is that fussy.
You don't know living hell. There are people raped by their own fathers. Getting kicked around by some high school kids? Get over it.
Sorry about that, I was drunk.
Let me buy you a beer and lets forget about your little logical fallacy there.

I move that the "ponies" tag supersede the "bullshit" and "gay" tags.

Actually the GP is right, Cowboy Neil uses XP with a "Gnome" theme and a couple of widgets.

piss off.
