No special input devices needed, as all of the buttons on the keyboard will create a random swatch of color along with one of several sound effects. Pretty basic. Just beware of installing on a laptop, my kid began to pick the keys off!
And that book should be "Why Marriages Succeed or Fail" by John Gottman. Its not a geek book, but it was written by a psychologist who has studied marriage and married couples for over 20 years. My wife and I read it and our marriage is stronger for it. I wholly recommend it.
I'm finding myself in the same boat, but for a different reason.
All it will take is one pointy-haired exec to look at this model and think, "We're not getting paid enough!" Then that label pulls out of the 'scheme,' bringing countless songs into legal-limbo.
It sounds like a great idea, conceptually, but a lot of logistical wrinkles need to be worked out before I consider it seriously. Great pipe dream, though.
I wonder why they picked Onimusha 3 over Dawn of Dreams. Since there are 5 playable characters in that game, one would think that would lend itself better to a Steam-type/multiplayer environment.
I think it was specific versions of Vista, if I'm recalling correctly. One would have to use one of the higher-priced versions to virtualize and not violate Microsoft's TOS.
It was in another/. article somewhere, I think. I'd search for it if I wasn't at work;)
My numbers were coming from OfficeXP and the newest version of OO (2.1) on the Windows side. Out of curiosity, what version of MS Office are you using which causes the reverse?
When saving files as XLS or DOC, the filesize is bigger than if Excel or Word actually saves it, and by a significant amount. A 20kb Excel file is an 80kb OO.o file. And that's basically straight data. Compound this on the Mac side with OpenOffice and NeoOffice.
Also, I don't think even the newer versions of OO.o are quite up to speed with Office 2K3 yet, though I haven't really played around with that intensively.
Would you be so kind as to post some of those 'make it look more like XP' tricks? We haven't upgraded to Vista yet where I work, but I know that its only a matter of time.
This might be a little bit of overkill if you just have a handful of employees, but we use TrackIt. I believe it is SQL based, its fairly simple to customize views, and there are a bunch of reports that you can run based on what is currently open/has been closed. I wouldn't know too much about those, though, me being just a lowly tech;-)
There are several other modules that you can install that can help keep track of purchasing, software, etc. Therefore my earlier concern that this would be too much for a company of your size. Still, thought I'd throw it out there.
There is only one that I know of, Onimusha Dawn of Dreams.
Even if there were a few more, I'd still be inclined to agree with you about the DVD format.
I'm not middle aged, but I remember connecting to Prodigy (remember them?) over 1200 baud in DOS... forget the version though.
And my dad buying a 100MB hard drive... and thinking it was huge.
What will replace MS-DOS boot disks?
Since recent versions no longer run DOS natively, I've had to use my old 98 boot disks multiples times across various jobs. So why would floppies be 'dead?'
I know that there are CDs that can do similar/the exact same stuff, but when its the same data that used to be on floppies, its a waste of 700MB. I don't know how easy it is to make a USB jumpdrive bootable, but there still seems to be a niche (albeit a small one) for floppies.
Perhaps not 100% what you are looking for, but it amuses my 2 year old:

How is this newsworthy?

This sounds a lot like the Chronicles of George: http://chroniclesofgeorge.nanc.com/navmain.htm
Couldn't one argue that they do already, with their donation drives, a la public radio?
That's rather tasteless. And the message wasn't a good idea either.

We have yet to see how much pre-bundled trial software Dell is going to throw onto these things.

PLEASE nobody tell the Sci-Fi channel. We do NOT need another "Giant (fill in creature here) Attacks!" movie.

Hahahah nicely done!

How does it "only turn on when you look at it?" How would it know? That part just doesn't make sense to me
MadMaze! Damn, so many hours wasted playing that... I don't think I ever beat it, though. Ah well.

I couldn't have put it any better myself. That's about as succinct as anyone can get. Well put.
