Well, if you're supposed to 'participate actively in creating the storyline', as you inside, then there's absolutely no problem with today's FPS's. If it's all in your head, why spend the time creating a story for the game?
Personally, I prefer a well-wrought story, that allows the ability to affect the story, around the edges. Branching level progression, for example, that depends on player decisions during the game.
http://marathon.bungie.org/story/ , for example, Bungie's previous FPS trilogy before Halo, is still regarded by many as one of the pinnacles of story design in an FPS, and this came out in the mid-90's.
Eh, from what I've read about the series, it sounds like just another dull, derivitave sitcom. I mean, I'm sure it was relevant at the time, but a lot of the humor seems to be based around the 'current events' of the time.
I dunno, sitcoms have always bored me to tears, and this one doesn't seem all that different from any of the other's I've seen or heard aboout.
Beethoven's 5th is okay, but most of Beethoven's stuff is honestly overplayed. Still good, of course, but I personally believe that there are other composers, even in his own era, who were just as good if not better than him at composing great music - which isn't a knock against Beethoven at all, just - I've heard enough of it that I moved on to different things, after awhile, I'm sure you know what that's like.
Nah, expected to be modded up for providing information about someone who a lot of people just have no information about.
Same with the 'washed up' part - sitcom actors are usually second-rate at best, and if it's been a decade since he's done any acting other than a bit part as a voice actor in some kids movie, he isn't exactly an acting superstar.
Older than twelve, but not American, and not obsessed by pop-culture trivia.
Seriously, is it that bad to not instantly recognize the guy's name? By the reaction I'm getting, it's like I've commited a serious/. geek sin or something.
Remember, just because this Jerry Seinfeld guy was a big sitcom star in the USA in the 90's, doesn't mean his name is instantly recognizeable to everyone on earth - I happen to be one of those who honestly didn't know who he was - and I'm finding it a little strange that I was marked -1 Troll, instead of the expected +3 Informative that I was expecting.
Well, I'm about ten years younger than you, so I guess that answers that - he's before my time. Sucks that I got modded -1 Troll for it though, I was hoping I'd get something like +3 Informative. Ah well.
It honestly wasn't a troll. First off, I'm not American, and secondly, during the 90's, I was watching cartoons, because that's what my age-group watched at the time.
I guess it's easy to mistake honest not knowing for trolling these days, but seriously, keeping up on old trivia isn't one of my hobbies, and I'm sure there's other people out there who don't know who this Jerry guy is either.
I had absolutly no idea who this guy is, or why him being in a Microsoft ad campaign was noteworthy, but here's what Wikipedia says http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_seinfeld
"Jerome "Jerry" Seinfeld (born on April 29, 1954 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American comedian, actor and writer. He is often described as an observational comedian. He is best known for playing a semi-fictional version of himself in the situation comedy, Seinfeld,(1989-1998), which he co-created, helped write and, in the show's final two seasons, executive produced. He also starred as "Barry B. Benson" in the film Bee Movie, his first major foray back into the media industry since the finale of Seinfeld."
So apparantly this "Jerry" is some old sitcom comedian guy from the 90's?
And Microsoft thinks having a washed up sitcom actor pushing Vista will help them... how, exactly?
Good idea, and maybe we'll get some fun or funny ads out of it.
Unfortunatly, it's too late for Vista. If they'd done this at Vista's first release, then it would have worked.
Heck, with Windows 7 right around the corner, by using Jerry with Vista, by associating him with Vista, I can't help but feel they're wasting what potential he has to draw people to what they're having him push.
Personally, I don't avoid sites with flash content - I just block the flash. If, after blocking all the flash and javascript on the site, the site doesn't work, I consider that the fault of the person who made the side, I complain to the site owner, and then leave, usually for good.
It depends what you're using the flash for though, really - just ads? Fuck 'em, I make a game out of blocking all ads permantly with flashblock. Is it a flash game? I might give it a try once or twice, there's a couple flash games I like. A flash cartoon? Only good one I know is Strong Bad. Youtube? I'll just go to youtube, thanks.
If it's anything else, if you can do it with text and images instead of flash, you're probably just wasting your time.
Seriously, blocking ads and javascript and flash stuff is like a game for me now, I get a little thrill of victory every time I block one of those things, it's great.
*incoherent, stunned disbelief that someone typed that seriously*
Or wait, are you really Colbert in disguise? Calling the reporting of CNN and FOX 'perfect' is something that only a satirist can do without coming across as silly.
God, I hope not. Who wants to play real life? What you're suggesting is the opposite of improving 'story' - it's the removal of story alltogether, leaving only player decisions and random 'whatever' prodecural generation.
Basically, what you're wanting is something like GTA, but without any story or direction whatsoever, just things like the cops coming after you if you get too crazy and other such things.
And, sure, that's fun, I don't really play GTA for the story anyway. But don't confuse 'sandbox game' with 'well thought out and developed storyline, characterization, and plot'. The two can live together, but removing one from the other doesn't neccessarily improve either.
On a more serious note, yes it's horrible (The United States) Russia is invading (Iraq) Georgia and it could set a nasty precedent for them to do it elsewhere in the (Middle East) former Soviet States. If they get away with this, what would keep them from say, invading (Iran) East Ukraine, which has a high population of (Pro-Islamic) Pro-Russian supporters? Sadly, I don't see any Western Countries comming to the aid of the opposing forces against (The United States) Russia. No one out there seems to want to upset (America) Russia.

...and you think he has credibility, why, exactly?
I take it you don't know that there are diseases and brain chemical imbalances that can cause pain which is of such a level that death is preferable.
It's easy to blame the dead, point fingers at them and heap scorn upon their bodies.
Fact is, you're not him, I'm not him, neither was anyone else. We don't know why, and will never know why.
Feeling sadness, I think, is a more appropriate reacting than slinging insults at the dead.
So I guess 'idle' is /.'s way to try to emulate Fark now, huh.
And rather extraordinarily tame, when compared to America's fuckup in Iraq.

Are you interested in buying Vista? Are you going to buy Vista? Has your opinion on Vista or Microsoft has a company changed?
If not, then the ad has failed its purpose.
If an ad is detrimental to a company or a product, then having more people see the add isn't a benefit to the company or the product.

"Perfected news reporting with CNN and FOX"?
Are you fucking kidding me?
*incoherent, stunned disbelief that someone typed that seriously*
Or wait, are you really Colbert in disguise? Calling the reporting of CNN and FOX 'perfect' is something that only a satirist can do without coming across as silly.
Not me. Feeling sad about that is patented, and I can't pay the licencing fees. :(
"Athiesm" only refers to disbelief in the Christian God - believe it or not, an Athiest can still be a very spiritual person.
Care = spiritual.

I mean, I didn't even read the summary, let alone the article, but it was posted by kdawson.
Am I wrong?
Bullshit. How much a month do you spend on coffee? Eating out? Other crap?
$10 for a game like this makes me feel like I'm ripping them off, seriously.

Yay perspective!
That doesn't make it any less insulting.
