The US brands offered better networks, more CPU power, lower costs and more support.
Fewer of EU nation like tax rates and less EU style regulations and laws to consider in the USA.
The way the EU responded was to use laws like "sending EU users' data outside the EU" to keep EU data sets in the EU using regulations.
A step to keep better and lower cost US located products and services out of the EU.
US brands would have to invest in the EU to support their products in the EU.
People in the EU have to pay more for EU based services with fewer innovative services that US located products could have offered.

The greatness of the internet was in the ability to publish, comment and share links without censorship.

Cults and faith groups on what is blasphemy.
Computer brands on what is sinful and need to be curated.
Professionals or experts who do not want people talking about their DRM, crypto, junk software.
NGO's who do not want their politics commented on.
Think tanks hired to push a side of politics, a brand.
Actors who don't want to see bad reviews of their low quality political movies found.
Governments who have a war to sell.
Images had different ways of been sold to a newspaper and got used in different ways.
Photography sent to a newspaper could be sold to the newspaper. The newspaper would then own that image.
The newspaper could use the image as they wanted.
The newspaper could be allowed to use the image with the rights staying with the photographer.
The photographer could then use the image in books, magazines as they wanted as it was still their image to use.
Re Windows 10 is a complete nuisance on older machines.
Buy a new computer that supports Windows 10.
Lots of brands and shops have Windows 10 computers for sale.
Build a computer that will run Windows 10.
Lots of computer sites have guides and support for getting parts.

The German political elite are free to select a Communist China over the decades of freedom and support of the USA.
The US mil/gov is then free not to share with the BND and Germany in any way.
Germany will have to find its own way and try to find a way to spy globally without any US mil, CIA, MI6, GCHQ and NSA support.
