I've always loved those commercials; that guy and everyone else on the regular staff got a paycheck for their work long before the movie came out. If they actually made a percentage of the film's profits, which I guarantee none of them do, then they'd have a right to complain. I guess the point I'm trying to make is moot since that guy wasn't really a carpenter anyway, but an actor.

The best part is that the ads aren't even titillating, and I can't think of a single person who would go watch their "UNRATED" stuff when there's probably nothing going on that can't be shown on TV (I don't know, I've never wasted my time checking). Whoever is in charge of the marketing is either a man who has a low opinion of other guys or a woman who doesn't really understand what we find erotic.

I agree with the sentiment, but look at it this way: if a project is going to be funded with federal money, it's far more likely to be greenlit than something that might cost the company millions without the possibility of making them rich.

I don't usually trust corporations (big pharm especially) to do anything other than protect their bottom line, but stem cell research is vital and without that money it's going to take that much longer for potential miracle cures to start happening.

Those assholes have had it coming for a long time. First off, you wrote a terrible wall of text that made my eyes unfocus because it was incoherent and poorly-formatted. Secondly, where did you get the impression I think cigarettes should be banned because TV told me to? There's a big difference between dealing with nuisances and dealing with idiots putting cancer-causing chemicals into the air around us and then leeching our tax dollars to be cared for (and, better yet, acting like it's the end of the world when anyone calls them on it). Pulling the "life's not fair" card is stupid, because it's something that could be taken care of easily if smokers had any kind of self-control. Again, there's a big difference between something that's beyond our control that we have to accept, and something that is really and truly unfair that we shouldn't have to deal with. Society is based upon people having a baseline of civil conduct towards each other, and I don't know why we should have to shrug our shoulders and go "Oh well!" when we could be doing something about it instead.
