Bad enough we have to deal with radical Islamic terrorists, now we have to deal with Jewish ones too? Now we just gotta get the Christian radicals out there and we can relive the dark ages!
If memory serves, a group of small Russian children presented one of our embassies a gift of a beautiful wooden state seal to hang on the wall. Unbeknown to anyone in the embassy at the time, it contained a small passive bug built within and that allowed the Russians to listen in to priviledged embassy conversations. The seal is now hanging up a the NSA museum in Columbia, Maryland. So the question is, who made the phones for this hotline?
And I realize that Gateway did this once before... And now the Gateway store is an arts and crafts scrap-booking store. One slate tablet (with mixed reviews none the less) dost not a successful store front make...
I read an article on Slashdot last year about The Game of Thrones that stated that it was the number one pirated show on the Internet. Because I am a guy who believes in rewarding good talent and also knowing that GoT was a pretty darn good show, I bought both Seasons 1 and 2 (yes, paid for it!) on iTunes. And I was right, a fantastic show! So when my wife and I finally finished off Season 2 and Season 3 was just starting up, we went to our trusty iTunes to get a subscription for Season 3. Well, sorry folks, it's only available in Australia. And we wonder why people are attempting to steal it? Seriously, make it available to purchase and I'll be more than happy to do so. In the meantime, I can't exactly imagine why the piracy happens... Stumped really... Correct me if I'm wrong, if a technology is not readily available to be used, isn't the circumvention of the protection mechanisms legal under fair use? Was that not the point of the DeCSS case?
This author makes a very legitimate point. Further more, there are legal ways to challenge programs in the government under their own internal whistle blower format without exposing "legal" programs in an "illegal" manner. First off, there is the chain of command, second there is the inspector generals office, third off there are appeals processes that can be followed. In any case, the very first stop should be the local ADC or JAG to discuss the legal options on how to lodge a complaint. Snowden is not the first NSA employee (a contractor at that) to blow the whistle on these programs. The difference between him and the ones before him is the others followed the legal means to lodge a complaint. While those others will likely never hold a clearance again, they also didn't expose classified secrets to the extent that Snowden did, and they also weren't prosecuted to the extent he will no doubt be. Any person who works in a classified environment signs a non-disclosure agreement under penalty of law that they will protect classified secrets. He knew that when he did what he did. That's why he left the country. Understood that he felt he did it from an ideological standpoint, but what he did was still wrong. If memory serves, after all the legal options were carried out, the next step was to proceed to external organizations like EFF to work with them to have them try and challenge the situation. No doubt Snowden did a lot of good and bad on the EFF front, but there are groups with sufficiently more funding than your personal Visa card that have access to more folks than the Hilton in Hong Kong and who are way more willing to take up the banner than the yet unannounced country that favors free speech.
Apple didn't become the largest company by playing catch up to the competitors. I wouldn't change "features" in iOS. I'd change the paradigm in which iOS runs.
I fail to see how this comment is off topic since a typical trip to Starbucks shows any number of people using their tablets instead of their laptops and Apple's stock is significantly higher than it was when they introduced the iPad. Not to say that Android tablets don't shine a little too, but there probably is a reason why the PC market is declining.
I'm afraid of Google's Terms of Service. Why must such an intimate device include terms that prevent the resale or redistribution of the device to other people? Can't help but think that the great Google in the Sky knows all and sees all...
In Other News Today: Chicago O'Hare was closed today as officials were simply baffled by the fact that EVERY turn-style detected explosive residue. Bomb squad technicians were simply stumped after their dogs spun circles in mass confusion.
Question is, will this new gate satisfy the TSA agents? No more nudie pics, no more gropings? Something tells me this gate doesn't detect metal and the gropings will continue.
As quoted by Samuel Beckett
Does it not seem odd that Microsoft is trying to create a smart phone? I think someone has already done that. Would it not make better sense for Microsoft to do A) broaden and increase the X-Box market where their money is or B) re-invent a cumbersome technology to capture the market share from those who do it badly?
Here's the actual effect it has had - everyone gets to pay more for data since everyone has to be able to tether. The new mandatory shared data plans are more expensive than older piecemeal plans. WHat about people that didn't want to pay for tethering? Too bad.
Of course, that must be the answer, because no other media company on the planet has ever offered a data plan service that lets you download up to 250G in a month with line rates of around 30Mbps and the ability to use that at well over 10,000 different locations for a total of about $65 a month...

As the networks develop, the costs for the bandwidth and the "forced free tethering" become insignificant. And honestly, tethering doesn't cost anything. I can use Netflix on my trusty built in Android App and use FAR more bandwidth than that tethering app.
Just sayin'.
I’ve seen so many bald eagles crying a single tear over terrorism or gay marriage or whatever that it’s really hard not to interpret this as some kind of metaphor about America. Ruined by guns, kept alive by nonprofits, technology comes to the rescue? Sure, I think it works.
Now if we can only get a 3d printed deficit reduction...
Investing in international, unregulated, anonymous funding systems with no legal oversight (at least not the positive kind) from law enforcement and we are surprised why?
Keep in mind that the folks we ask to stay on that bleeding edge of offense stay in a hole in the ground for 48 hours straight without any access to the world around them besides those systems. Perhaps the director would be willing to see if MWR can chip in some assets? After all, unofficial business is what MWR is for.

World domineering overlord.
Microsoft does not have "the cool".

Normally, I'm one who rails against conspiracy theories for being ridiculous, but somehow, this one, well... It deserves a listen to.
Now this is cool. I can finally be competitive in track. I just need to upgrade my legs to the faster version. :)

Hopefully they do better with their Mortgage-backed Securities....

I'm sure that the folks at the fukishima plant never thought they'd have to survive what they went through.
NICE! ;)

But I'm just wondering where I can get a 120 megapixel camera... Possible feature request for the iphone6 ?
You might think forced free tethering is awesome.

Not really, no. If you lock down SSH sufficiently, then it's pretty much bulletproof.
Until the next buffer overflow exploit comes into the picture...

I could use some for my Prius...
