I'm proud to say that I'm one of those new Linux users (Ubuntu). I'm honestly very impressed with it; I expected to like it, but not find anything mind-blowing.
I love the application manager, I love the ability to switch desktop workspaces, I love how I can update everything from one spot.
However, one thing has kept XP on my system (dual-boot)-- drivers. I can't find drivers for my printer (Lexmark x7350), or newer ones for my webcam (Logitech Quickcam Communicate STX). I can't use my printer at all, and my webcam is using some way old drivers and is very blurry-- looks much better with the newer ones on XP. I've looked around, but not found anything to help me out... and I'm not even close to being talented enough to write my own.
Regarding the part about the wireless SNES controller:
Have you seen Nintendo's "Classic controller" that they offer (primarily for the virtual console games)? It looks a little odd, but after you start using it, you'll realize that it's really an SNES controller with some analog sticks thrown on at the bottom (and two extra "shoulder" buttons). Also, it plugs into the wii-remote, so I consider it semi-wireless.
Anyways, definately my favourite controller ever, so you should give it a try, if you haven't yet.
Not to sound like I support Windows or anything, but WinXP DOES come with a firewall. Also, as far as I know, Vista Ultimate is the only one that costs $399. I also don't think XP cost that much when it came out (I didn't buy either, though).
More like $200 or so, every 5 years (XP came out in October of 2001, I think)?
The videos that I saw of Starcraft 2 made it look roughly on par with Command and Conquer 3... which could NOT be run on a Nintendo DS (or PSP).

"One year old, top of the line"? I have a nearly two year old pc (high-end, but not top of the line) that ran it quite well (at a good resolution and decent quality).
I do agree that the requirements were high, but to say that it wouldn't run on a one year old, top of the line computer is incorrect (unless there is just something wrong with the computer itself).
I've looked all over, but can't find any information on the show (I've read the book, though). Any links to any sort of info on the show would be greatly appreciated.
On topic-- It's good to see that Reboot is still (sort of) kicking. From reading the wikipedia page on it, I guess it's a shame that I didn't stick with it past the first season.
No kidding. I know people who get rid of machines with processors > 2.5 ghz, just because they're too bogged down with spyware or (I'm also not joking) "running out of space" (Does anyone else here know people who download everything they can find? Game demos, movies, music, tv shows).... which could be easily solved by adding another hard drive, or clearing up useless items (television shows, demos, and movies in particular).
It MIGHT be a better deal, but it's been my experience that people generally don't know what their computers are worth (at least where I live). I seen machines in the paper all the time that are 5 years old and have prices of $500 or more. I frequently see things along the lines of:
"For Sale: Used computer. 2001 model. Cost $1100, will sell for $600. Taken good care of."
Any shops around here will try to cheat you out on both new and used computers. It's really sad when someone asks me where they should get a computer and I tell them to go to Staples (most folks here are also wary about buying online...even from Dell's website).
It's a phone. It shouldn't REQUIRE a PC to begin with. Sure, it's a given that you should have to have a PC to send your music collection to the phone, but to even USE the phone? No, this is unacceptable. A phone should not require a computer to use functions that don't involve a computer.
I agree with you completely. I fully believe that there are people out there who can talk on a phone with no change in their driving skills (and also, people who can't drive worth a damn while operating a motor vehicle). The solution isn't to ban cell phones + driving, but to get a little more harsh about BAD driving. Besides, what's the differnce between talking to a passenger while driving a stick-shift and talking on a cell phone?
I save my.torrent's to my desktop, THEN I load up BitTorrent (this is so that Opera doesn't try to handle the torrent). Sometimes, between downloading the.torrent file and loading BitTorrent, I decide I don't want the file anymore and delete it (before I ever even drag the.torrent file into BitTorrent). How are they supposed to sue me for copyright infringement just for downloading a.torrent file?
At best, they can only say "Well, you INTENDED to illegally download some program at one time or another!"

You should-- I'm pretty sure I've been here for a few years now.
Wow, I'm actually in that group!
I couldn't decide whether to mod this informative or funny. That, good sir, was freaking amazing.
Well... there's that, and the fact that the guy that hosted the video on youtube is a crazy anti-ebay fanatic.
The guy had to have either:
A) Made them up
B) Gotten them somewhere else.
Regardless, he's just a troll trying to create bad press for eBay.
Maybe Dell could get a rep for being "pro-fitness", too, with that 86 lb. power supply.

So basically, if I catch M$ spying on me, I should get the hell out of the US?
Regret.

Mr. Peters is far beyond that.
Well, a "top of the line" laptop would certainly have a videocard, right?

Dude, that's all media hype. Don't buy into crap that's so obviously fake.
Completely true. Sorry, I suppose I just got a little heated up when the parent of my post was ragging on the student for his GPA =)
Agreed completely. Jack is off his rocker.
But didn't you hear? Halo taught Malvo how to circle-strafe, camp, AND recharge his shields by not getting hit.
And, if he would have waited and trained on Halo 2, he would have learned how to hold two weapons at the same time!
