I think Microsoft is being aggressive in it's strategy. Warnings, even many warnings and second chances, third chances, etc should be utilized before doing something irreversible like this (also an appeals process would be in order). Someone finally getting to the bottom of this. Google has become a "sheep herding" company with a great deal of influence in culture and society even if a subtle influence. George W Bush even referred to "The Google" in what is likely another precalculated Bushism amidst their efforts to boost up their lobby clout all the while trying to hide it from the public.

Look at it logically. The makers of one software are claiming that no one can look at what their software does on a computer or you violate the EULA. This will never hold up and these projects are independent and not using code just referencing the files in a database. They cant prove that an anonymous web page wasnt their source of file/registry information anyway as much of that information is available these days.
How great would it be to fly 100 feet over the highway on your way to work going 300mph and watching all the traffic jams. The enjoyment from that would be almost too great. I think Microsoft is being aggressive in it's strategy. Warnings, even many warnings and second chances, third chances, etc should be utilized before doing something irreversible like this (also an appeals process would be in order). It certainly is their right to ban people from their network based on a written policy but psychologically speaking they are angering a great many customers. By taking such extreme action, they are encouraging better hacks and workarounds in the future. Plenty of computer software is much more graceful and works well on a positive reinforcement encouragement system. Even Microsoft Windows and Office handle these types of situations much better. There will always be piracy but it should be discouraged and not challenged for the truly best end results. A lot less music is pirated now simply by offering it for sale in MP3 form and encouraging people to do the right thing.
The CIA has plenty of covert operatives working at Facebook. Someone finally getting to the bottom of this. Google has become a "sheep herding" company with a great deal of influence in culture and society even if a subtle influence. George W Bush even referred to "The Google" in what is likely another precalculated Bushism amidst their efforts to boost up their lobby clout all the while trying to hide it from the public.
Google has even gotten in bed with CIA. The founders are being distracted with luxury, power and fame. They likely have made connections with many of the great elitists of modern society.
Google has sneaky NDAs and are now patenting commercial breaks. They even practice political suppression through their agressively filter in China that is no doubt an experiment that could help in controlling other democracies. Their search is so watered down that you have to go through pages to find non commercial legitimate results unlike in their startup years. It feels like they added all these superficial features and forgot about improving core search.
We already are really starting to hate Google and for good reason. The do-no-good days are long gone. As mentioned in previous summaries, Slashdot is waking up fairly quickly to this as Google quickly becomes the villain of the day.
The software patent lobby is huge even if they are underreported on. Just think about Amazon and how they defend obvious software patents. There are so many patent holders out there right now that have so much to worry about that despite this new organized effort to reform I fear it will not totally solve the problem. There would be "grandfather" software patent clauses or something I would bet...
The parent post is very informative - and exactly where we are headed. The manufacturers are practically idiots to be releasing flexible/complex circuit boards - this is a crackers toy! Wait until everything is in one chip. This is the direction despite the discussion here we are moving. Most discussion here centers around not knowing the low level work being done by the "crackers" or "reversers". If the entire encryption/playback mechanism is embedded in the chip and data is read off the disk and the decision to allow or deny is made inside the encryption/playback chip then without taking apart the chip things like this will be impossible. The flash program could be rendered into a VLSI design that would only run that program (so it wont be updatable). Now anyone who has reversed any of these schemes (even mod chips) will be unable to do anything without some very sophisticated equipment (maybe some photographic process to get the wire layout of the chip and hours of figuring out the interconnections meanings. This will ruin the fun. I cannot fathom why they are still releasing standard hardware that when ripped apart can be understood very quickly. The one chip idea is possible and has been the only successful encryption scheme I have seen to date (like Cable and Satelite digital content).

I agree with you. I live in SF as well and graduated last May came out here with no plans posted my resume and got a couple interviews and a job in less than a month. I am doing C/C++ programming by preference. If you are in Silicon Valley, and you know your stuff, $70K should be the lowest salary you should accept as a new college graduate. I would definetly agree with that. Some other posters talking about .NET being a gravy train may also be correct. I prefer the power and control with C/C++. The job market out here is definetly booming though.
Look at it logically. The makers of one software are claiming that no one can look at what their software does on a computer or you violate the EULA. This will never hold up and these projects are independent and not using code just referencing the files in a database. They cant prove that an anonymous web page wasnt their source of file/registry information anyway as much of that information is available these days.
How great would it be to fly 100 feet over the highway on your way to work going 300mph and watching all the traffic jams. The enjoyment from that would be almost too great. VTOL means you could use this thing anywhere even in a city. Flying around streets with skyscrapers in this would be intense too. I just hope they get more affordable but not too affordable because they will get massively regulated once that happens because too many flying cars will cause a good amount of accidents.
This is no surprise. Microsoft has gotten so big that they have become a jack of all trades but no longer a master at anything. When you try to do everything you expand so large that its hard to control the growth of the company and management policies. Microsofts sole power was in being able to compensate people well but people are leaving not because of money but because they do not like the job. This could be a big problem for Microsoft and we will watch Google and other companies slowly eat up some of the top devs from MS.
