I just went to register on the site. I don't see how it is really different to a lot of established create your own product sites. Maybe they will just market better. I agree that there is a lot of variation on what you can create. As they say:
"Lots of places offer apparel, posters, and cards - and we do too. But no one else offers the range of sizes, colors or media that you find at Zazzle. And no one else utilizes our state-of-the-art reproduction techniques that deliver exceptional color, feel and resolution. "
Hmm, maybe. Maybe.
But, what's in it for the punter? If you use CafePress, you can set your own prices and make money. At Zazzle, you get a flat 10%. That's a in anyone's money. The users will make the site, they are effectively selling their creativity - and yet the return is pathetic. Despite the brilliance of the investors, I suggest this company will . And even if it doesn't, it isn't adding anything of interest to the world.
Previously it was the US and GB providing technology to the world. Now it's the opposite - the world provides technology for HP - and people expect that the same amount of people are needed to be employed for the latter as the former? Good grief.
is how much wasted effort is spent on "packaging" (which is a concept that doesn't really exist on other operating systems). For any given piece of software there are probably 30 people who all do the same work (more or less) putting it into some quasi proprietary format.
That's where consolidation is needed.
If it stands to make corporations rich, it will go through easily. The Tories and the Grits are both corporate shills. Only the NDP abd Bloc would even consider not letting this through.
In NAFTA countries, this kind of lawsuit would actually be successful, and the Government would be liable for all potential losses. In the US/Canada it's very common for Corporations to sue States/Provinces - surprisingly Canadians sue American states more than the other way around.
It depends on the setting. I know someone who has large tanks of ink hooked up to an inkjet printer who makes a good profit doing photo printing. I don't think he uses the same $20 printers most people do, though, but rather a higher end HP "Professional" printer.
Oh my G-d the background has parallax effects! This is so innovative!!
Enlightenment is useless, and even the author says so. It's basically a demo, like what we all made in the 80s.
then you have the right to deprive me of compensation for something that I worked for years on. Soon I won't be able to put any time aside for writing, as I'll be too busy working - my former venture made unprofitable by piracy and theft.

Of course, I'm sure things like HP laying off 15,000 technical employees and then hiring more management have nothing to do with it.
Management sucks the creativity right out of you
I see that this is free as in beer, but is it free as in freedom? (can I alter and distribute?)

I think this has some potential for abuse - I hope they secure their data well.
Or even Windows Media Player? They don't make any money off of them. I suppose IE has the ActiveX lock-in factor (Fedex.com anyone?).
India has had the paperless toilet for a long time, and it's cleaner too. They use a kettle like device called the bodna.
I think this may really have potential for abuse..

that the BBC isn't really run by the government. It's an independent Crown corporation like the CBC in Canada.

By taking the print head out of the cartridge, this does make the carts cheaper.
Solar isn't reusable. There's just a lot of it.
Soon there will be more distributions than users

Here's one: a stable binary interface. I don't have to find packages for my "distro" of Longhorn, I can just run Windows 95+ software.
.. is the least reputable tech site on the internet. In the future, timothy please refrain from letting these articles through the garbage filter.
A long time, since it actually runs things outside of ring0!
and my box got 0wned in no time!! Linux is insecure!!
I guess linking to another OSDL site means big karma.
