something like a movie on HBOHD will have most likely originated from 480P, so 1080i Blu-Ray will look better. Something recorded directly in 1080i(The Tonight Show, OCC, ER...) will show little or no difference in quality to the Blu-Ray disc unless the network really compressed the hell out of the broadcast.
Well, if it helps, when I transfer from my HDTV video camera to my computer with MPEG2 compression, 1 hour of video takes up just under 8gigs on average. However that's Sony's FX1 which is 1440x1080.
And all the sony literature about necessary disk speed is in Mbps not MBps and I believe HDTV is broadcasted at something like 19.1Mbps according to Sony.

Can't find anything about shelf life or connection types. All I could find was that the data was stored in parallel at a million bits at a time.
Also, 27MB/sec, could that be a typo? Seems awfully slow, no?
But can it run Linux????? I want to be able to serve 1million pages a month off of it with Apache and tomcat.
