There is something fundamentally wrong with this argument, but I've had to think about it for a minute to come up with a way to explain it.
There is no practical difference between throwing 6 dice together and having them all come up 6 and throwing a single die 6 times and having it come up 6 each time. Ultimately you've got 6 independent die rolls and coming up with 6 on each. So the formula you were using with 2 dice and 3 dice would also apply to the 6 whether you threw them together or in sequence.
To put it another way, you are correct that for any single throw of the die, one has a 1 in 6 chance of getting a 6. To do that six time in a row is quite different. For instance, for the 6th throw of the die to count if it came up 6, every previous roll would have had to come up 6 but there were 5 chances of 5 in 6 odds against that happening.
Although I've long amused myself by pointing out the 'Ghoti' word, it becomes less entertaining when I really stop to think about it.
'gh' - While it's true that this particular letter combination can sound like an 'f' when it falls at the end of some words and is silent other times, I can't think of an example where it would ever sound like that at the beginning of the word. For example, the word 'ghost' does not start with an 'f' sound. 'o' - The word 'women' is unusual in itself, in a couple of places, and therefore shouldn't be used as an example of standard vowel usage. 'ti' - The 'sh' sound is applied here in the context of all the French words English has adopted that end in 'tion' or in words like 'initiate.' In either case there's another vowel after the 'ti' and one wouldn't expect it to have the 'sh' sound at the end of a word.
Obviously English has its exceptions or we wouldn't even be having this discussion, but there are general rules of thumb about how words and letters within words will be pronounced in context.
That would be funny if the pre-discontinued Ford Taurus wasn't such a damned good car. What the marketing folks at Ford thought by discontinuing it and then bringing it back as the rebranded Five Hundred, I'll never know. It's right up there with naming a new Lincoln the Zepher and that stupid looking cheese slicer grill Ford's been all enamored with lately.
I guess my joke involving Ford Taurus vs. the Rocket would go more along the lines that they should have tried the Ford instead.
Well, I know they took over this project in order for it to work with OSX, but I use CUPS for printing on my Linux box and Apple has its name attached to it. At the very least they didn't stop making that work with Linux.
Wow. That brought back memories. Not because I was ever a big CDE user, but because I've used Xfce since early in it's 3.0 days - Shortly after it started using gtk, but still looked a lot like a pretty CDE.
I think he did. He's simply pointing out that since it doesn't cost that much to send the letters that the RIAA is making a packet off this racket but none of that is likely going to the artists. Just funding the legal and technical aspects of this scam operation.
As I understood it, the Eastern (Orthodox) and Western (Roman Catholic) churches went through a schism a little over 1000 years ago. So to say one is "older" than the other is a little off.
Well, this means, as I've thought all along, that the midichlorians are the human interface with the Force, not the Force itself. A person with a higher concentration of them would have a stronger interface with the force, which remains as Obi-Wan explained it, an energy the binds the universe together etc.
Discovering my local library was the final nail in the coffin of my Netflix membership. The library has more DVDs than I have time to watch and many of the big new releases as well as the more obscure stuff. I'm sure ultimately a service like Netflix has a larger DVD collection, but there's really only so many hours in a lifetime.
I've been amused that my own music player has a list of songs lumped together that begin with: The Ashley Tisdale cover of Kiss the Girl. Linkin Park - Numb (The immediate consequence of kissing the girl, I guess) Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart (The eventual consequence of said kissing) Marilyn Manson cover of Suicide is Painless (The ultimate consequence?)
One thing I haven't noticed being mentioned much is that this only counts the Fedora 6 installs.
This would have to be a low ball figure as there are so many machines with some other distro installed on it that wouldn't for any reason go to download a patch from Fedora.
If they've already admitted that their numbers are low because the factor that causes it to be low is greater than the factor that causes an overstatement, and they're already estimating a million, once you count in all the other distros, I think 'millions' is quite reasonable.
I gave up all my movie service memberships/subscriptions etc. when I discovered the movies at my local library. It's not direct to my door in a return envelope but it's still mighty convenient. I go to the website. I search through the catalogue. I click on a button to hold the item for me at the branch of my choosing. When it's ready to pick up, they send me an email. I then have a week to pick it up. When I pick it up I have the movie for free for one week. If no one else has a hold on the movie I can renew it on the website for a week from the renewal day. (For instance, If I renew it three days into the borrow term, I'll have it for a total of 10 days. I can't just go home and click on renew 10 time and have it for 10 weeks) I can then return the movie at any branch. My library carries many television series, documentaries, fine arts programs as well as blockbuster first run release type movies. I borrowed Superman Returns from there not long ago. Currently, I have a couple disks from the 1st of the recent series of Doctor Who. The selection isn't going to be up to netflix, but it's still more than I ever have time to watch and frequently the original booklets and other material are still in the dvd case.

One of these colors is not like the others. One of these colors just doesn't belong . . . .
What's wrong with the "World Series?" I mean, every MLB (tm) team in the world, universe even, has a chance to earn their way there. ;-)

Ah! So as soon as all that new Martian methane hits all that Martian oxygen in the atmosphere . . . hang on a minute. Mars has cows AND plant life? :-)

I don't think there are all THAT many elements up where this thing will be observing. Some to be sure, but above 99.8% of the water.

I don't believe that for a second. If you're smoking pot, you're not getting in any fight.
You're joking right?
Well, they mean sturdy as it can bump off a wall without tearing up a main rotor and crashing.
Amen.
Yeah I can see why that 's' isn't needed now.

Sorry. I meant "Athens" as in the home of both REM and the B52s, not "Atlanta."
Sounds like somebody's got a case of the Mondays.
will now fall under the domain of the Office of Homeland Security. So don't worry, it's not like we're not watching the Earth anymore.
I half expect that central column to start pumping up and down with a high pitched grinding noise as the vehicle slowly disappears.
