  1. You are not private in a public venue on NYC Police Comm'r: Privacy Is 'Off the Table' After Boston Bombs · · Score: 1

Seriously, I tire of people assuming that they should enjoy privacy while being in a public venue. I don't care about the plethora of cameras being installed in public areas, malls, streets, etc. The moment you step out your front door, you are no longer private, act accordingly.

Also this is not destroying "freedom". You are free to do whatever you want, within the confines of the law. Having a system that will catch you faster after breaking the law is not a slight to freedom. People have a right to be safe and secure, not a right to be able to commit crimes and get away with it.

The only people upset with cameras in public venues are criminals, period. Apparently a lot of them frequent Slashdot.

Yes, EA is a vile company that has made poor decisions over the years.

But the comments here are typically one-sided commentary that match the /. state of mind.

There are lots of people losing their jobs because of a few greedy idiot execs at the top. I wouldn't call the people getting laid off "bad rubbish" or throw out "good riddance". Often people get caught up a company and in spite of their best intentions, just cannot change a company culture. Sure, the writing has been on the wall at EA for a while, and it would be surprising if there was not a mass exodus of the left overs remaining at EA over the coming months, but its a shame when people have to lose their jobs because of poor management and bad executive decisions.

Hopefully, like with so many other past layoffs at gaming companies, the victims of one company rise up and create a new company and hopefully don't repeat the mistakes of the past.

Agreed, while people may love them, lets leave them on Network television which has become a vapid wasteland of derivative narratives for simple people

There is no point for Netflix to duplicate network garbage. If Netflix can't rise above the average POS sitcom and crime scene show on networks then there is absolutely no point for Netflix to do original programming..

Netflix should set the integrity of their original programming to not just be about ratings or top 10 lists, the way the network television has corrupted content. Shows on Netflix do not make money, the money has already been made. Reward subscribers with content that you can't see anywhere else, or at least drop a little nudity and a few f-bombs in them to avoid the over Disneyfied family crap found everywhere else. I want a story that spans multiple episodes, not telling me the same friggen' plot over and over and over again. Simple people can't follow a plot that spans two episodes which is why shows like CSI have boomed. I don't want Netflix to become a wasteland or more simple serialized garbage.

I don't need Netflix to become NBC or ABC 2.0. I want "original" content that is edgy and different than the crap on regular TV.

Netflix should set themselves to compete with HBO or Showtime, not to compete with whatever garbage is currently scheduled for the the 8pm primetime slot on Wednesday nights.

  20. BS on Some Windows XP Users Can't Afford To Upgrade · · Score: 0

An eye doctor can't afford the software?

    This is a BS statement.

First, if you run a business then you need to include in your expenses the cost of upgrading software, all software eventually expires. Too often companies have gotten into this trend of buying software once and assuming it will last them for decades. Buying into software 10 years ago is not a valid reason to not upgrade today.

Second, NO software will run only on Windows XP, sorry. In all likelihood there is absolutely no reason why the software will not run on Windows 8, except that some schmuck somewhere decided to check the OS version number when the app runs and then exit because of some wrong assumption that software can only run on specific OS versions. Also Microsoft offers virtual machines in Windows 8 that can let you run some legacy app that was poorly designed in the first place.

Bottom line though is, if you run a business, take responsibility and realize software is not a one time investment. Chances are that any new version of software this doctor could buy might be light years ahead of what they are using, but they are too lazy or ignorant to recognize the potential upgrading could offer them and instead refuse invest any more money.

There is no way a company only selling books will ever overtake a company selling EVERYTHING else including books. Leading eBook sales in Canada is not an indication of future success worldwide, and thats only because Amazon has only started offering Canadians the same services as Americans.

Also lousy antiquated ports of Android on their devices is not going to be a win for Kobo.

And not sure Kobo is going to make any headway against Amazon in big data. Kobo doesn't have the deep pockets simply because they DON'T sell washing machines and everything else.

Finally, how is Amazon not delivering an exceptional eBook store as well as selling other consumer goods?. Last I checked the whole Kobo experience, from the tablet to their online services to the quality and amount of content, is subpar to everything Amazon does, even in Canada.

  25. Nah, sorry on Iron Man 3 To Debut As a 4DX Film In Japan · · Score: 2

I find it very annoying when some kid kicks the back of my seat, so I don't want to sit through a whole movie with that kind of "seat vibration" experience.

Also while movie smell's might be a welcome change over body odor, cigarette's lingering stank from the smokers in front of you, and over buttered burnt popcorn, not sure any movie would be enhanced by the experience.

Also in what reality would someone pay $50 for a night out at the movies only to have the theater fog up and have people dropping with seizures from strobe lights a;; around up?

Pretty much 4DX encourages people to stay home to watch movies without all the excessive bullshit, unless Sony decides to shove this into the PS4 experience.
