I would say the major benefit of Gmail, or any webmail system, over ISP email is that if I switch ISPs I still have the same email address.
Now admittedly, if Google goes down, Im screwed, but then Im screwed along with a lot of other people and it will make it a lot easier to explain to people that my email address has changed because everyone else had it happen too.
Heck I still have a yahoo mail and a mail.com account that has lasted me 4+ ISPs.
I can go down to best buy here in Canada and buy a 26" widescreen or even letterbox HDTV (1080i even). This was about a month ago, and they weren't exactly common, but there were quite a few CRT HDTV ranging from that 26" to 36".
Am I missing some double meaning for the word Kazaa. The main kazaa homepage and several sub pages come up as pretty much the first several links, plus links to kazaa plus and kazaa lite and a wiki all on the first page.
As I have mentioned in some previous Xbox articles.
In many places in Canada, especially the west (that is the extent of my personal experience), you can find the Xbox 360, both versions, piled on the shelves of Future Shop, Best Buy and EB Games, heck even many local trade in places have both new and a few traded in ones already.
I would suggest that as an addition to the 4 year rule, it is 4 years from commercial product and say 10 years max. To prevent companies from getting the patent and then holding it and not releasing a product till they can sue the big guy that comes in to market.
I think you are breaking it down much farther needed or even practical. Yes you are correct, but it still cannot be considered analog as there are only discrete steps (0 and 1) for the lowest common denominator of any 'working' functionality. If computer functioned by actually processing each of an infinite number of values in its operating range seperately, then it could be considered to be an analog device.
If you want to run a business you should keep a list and only send mails to those people who want to recieve them. It should not be my responsibility to keep unwanted solicitations away. You are stealing my time by sending me this crap, and even with your solution my time and effort to keep it away. But I'll meet you halfway, if I can come to your business and steal your supplies and goods as long as you can steal my time and effort, I could accept that.
As much as technology may change in 20 years, such that it is possible, it will not happen. There are already systems out there that will drive tractors and farm equipment on your fields so you don't have to, but there are so many liability concerns. It is society that doesn't change fast enough to keep up with the technology. I have no doubt that such systems might be possible in the fairly near future, but there are so many issues with it that will make unprofitable and not viable, such as:
Privacy concerns - in order to say take me here, the car needs to know where it is and where to go, which means some sort of tracking system, and I can tell you right now it is much more likely to have some sort of GPS positioning to track the car and other cars than some sort expert system to know what street it is on all by itself and go from there, and manage a whole slew of sensors to watch other traffic and pedestrians. The tractor system I mentioned above does this with beacons to track itself against their known positions.
Safety/Insurance issues - If the system fails where is the point of blame. People will not be satisfied to say, oh, it was simply an accident we can't blame anyone. And the people using such vehicles will argue that they have no direct control over the system and as such should not be responsible and even not required to bother with insurance. People will blame the manufacturers as it is the most direct path and the deepest pockets, which will create a market where manufacturers will not want to enter. And then, especially in North America ( I don't have experience in other areas so I can't comment) pedestrians don't pay attention, jaywalk and all sorts of things to put themselves in danger, then there are children, the first child that gets hit because it didn't use the electronic warning walkway to stop the cars will result in an outpouring of angry people.
I had one other point, but I have forgotten after I wrote the other two.
Yea, but you are not told what the software does until you run it.
It would be more analagous to seeing girl guides at your door, you let them in, they offer to sell you cookies, you say you aren't interested and they leave a paint bomb in your lobby on their way out.
Im interested in how the concept of "left" can be lost such that a person's mind blocks out the left side of anything.
"Left" is a human concept, simply not being able to understand left does not make the left half of something disappear. Wouldn't this be like children being unable to understand left or right, yet they can still see the whole object. Its like if someone doesn't understand a door, they should still be able to see it and realize that its a solid object and can't pass through it, even if they can't realize how to open it, or that it even opens.
I don't know about you people in the states, but even during the Christmas rush I can go down to EB games where I live and pick one up off the shelf for purchase, they certainly aren't as rare here in Canada.
Well since its already been spoiled I have no qualms about saying this... And I know its being overly picky and technical, but... Wash doesn't get shot, he gets a giant spear through his torso, thats a hard one to walk away from.
Ok, so when the big telecom companies won't lease you the line(s) you need to actually provide service to your customers are you going to lay all your own lines to the internet?
You really think they will just go and say "Oh sure, you can use our lines to provide your customers with a competing service to ours"?
Child's play is a little different. I read the site you linked and it looks like Microsoft donated nothing but games.
The Child's Play charity gives entertainment gifts in general, including books and movies (educational ones too, there is a book on the amazon list about Sir Cumference and the Order of Pi I think, I love that title).
Although there is a gaming theme, the purpose of Child's Play is not directly gaming, but helping sick children play and have fun.
If you completed 5 sides (5 sides all the same colour) wouldn't that by default mean that you got the 6th side as well. The only options are you were using some screwed up rubix cube with greater than 6 colours
Currently if I need to hide anything this is what I do:
Split any data into approximately 200-1000 pieces (with a memorized non-sequential order I don't write down). Encrypt each of those. Hide each of those files that I would appear to want to keep secret (statements, account spreadsheets) Encrypt those files Split them up again as per number 1 Then encrypt them again Then hide again in innocent looking files (family pictures and whatnot) (Or instead of the last step, I hide them in public domain ebooks or other random files renamed to porno files and upload them to p2p networks - so I can make sure that I can always get them back while wiping them off of my actual computer)
I figure if they can find, decrypt and reorder all the pieces properly they can have the info.
No, it should not have the same problem. It is identifying a face based on key facial features. These features are calculated independant of race.
The problem people have in recognizing those of other race is psychological not what we actually see.
The problem with getting better educators is attracting a good portion of enthusiastic and genuinely helpful people to the profession.
In Canada (Saskatchewan more specifically) I made practically as much salary-wise (as I was obviously not working all year) in an engineering work experience summer student position that a teacher who has been teaching for the last 20 years makes. Admittedly money isn't everything, but long hours, low pay and stressful conditions are not really selling the Education market.

That, or the "Windows = Computer" is so engrained in people that they use it interchangably without notice.
Even if they are trying to differentiate. It won't affect Joe Consumer, he will just associate windows with computer anyway.
I can down to EBGames or Future Shop here in Canada and pick up the "ultimate" edition off the shelf.
I wouldn't say that is short supply.
I think you are breaking it down much farther needed or even practical.

Actually its extortion.
Blackmail is "I know something dirty about you, pay me or I talk"
Extortion is pay me or "Pay me or something bad will happen"
Blackmail implies a previous act you have committed and payment to keep secret.
Extortion is about paying to prevent a future act towards you.

No, I am pretty sure it would be AND.
Because it is not one OR two, it both one AND two.
So it would be -1 AND -1 = 1; thus 2 wrongs do make a right.
There is plenty of crap publishing houses print and I am sure there is plenty of good stuff that doesn't.
I'd prefer to make my own choices on what I like, not have a couple people in a big company deciding what is going to make them the most money.
