The Nintendo Revolution controller is one-handed in its default state. Adding tilt sensors (or a touchpad like the DS) and rearranging the buttons a little could actually make a mobile phone into a usable game controller.

The other problem is publishing support - plently of other handhelds have come and gone, the market seems to make it pretty clear that without Nintendo, Sony, or some other big name in gaming behind it a portable console isn't going to do well.

    Your time, I agree.

If you play games a lot, cutting the 30 second level load time down to 15 will save you 6 minutes a day of staring at a loading screen. (Based on 4 hours of 10 minute rounds). Ghosting to/from a USB hard drive takes a few minutes to set up, then you can walk away (probably to a games console). Using a RAID and backing up weekly will save you a noticable amount of time.

Personally, I'd rather have the extra space - I never uninstall anything, still have my original Wolfenstein 3D :)

I think physicists have the greatest respect for people who manage that, but less for people who don't and publish anyway.

Once the technique goes mainstream it can only get easier - assuming you can impress people that something you create will be worth watching.

Profiting from controlling distribution is being made increasingly difficult by technology, irrespective of everyone on the internet going to hell or not. But getting paid to create cannot be technologically circumvented, it's where a lot of things will probably end up.
