I never read any software EULAs or sign them. Also, my mouse and keyboard just randomly malfunction whenever I am asked if I agree to the terms or not. Somehow "I agree" always gets chosen for some strange reason (which is completely out of my control). I consider all EULAs void because such an even is possible. It would be quite strange for that to happen in a real life contract where you go into a seizure and accidently sign your own name on a contract which happened to lie before you.
Another thing that would be harry is on software EULAs when they say that if you agree, you cannot decompile or disassemble the software. What if you disassembled the software before you agree to the license agreement, remove it, then assemble it again?
How closed minded are you? They dont charge extra and cap just to piss you off or be assholes. They do it because people use the service more than they estimated what would be practicle and realistic. When you sit there with wget running 24/7 you are just adding to the problem. You are doing nothing for yourself, because they are still going to pass the extra cost you and many others like you make on to the consumer anyway. Trying to put out a fire with gas is not wise.
Hahahaha, if anything.. Linux has no real place. Windows/OSX for the desktop, and BSD for the server. Linux is trying to be somewhere in the middle. By the way, "the *bsd's" were around long before linux was ever comprehended.
for stability there is debian and slack,
Thats not even an argument. You are just pointing out the most stable/server-like linux distributions. You are essentially saying that linux has an equivelant for everything BSD has. It also doesnt matter what distro you are using. The stability problem lies within the method of development of the kernel. Having big VM changes and fucking things up constantly in the "stable" branch is very unprofessional. Linux could actually be really good if it wasnt controlled by some patch-nazi.
long live linux, which unlike the *bsd's is not dying.
Ahahah, and linux users are complaining every time Microsoft posts FUD. Guess what "BSD is dying"-type comments are? Exactly the same!
Are some linux users really that insecure with themselves that they must rag on BSD and MS none stop? Please get a life, get a clue, and get a brain. BSD is not dying, and it never was.
I dont know about the US, but here in Canada I am pretty sure that one of the Senate's jobs is to decide if its constitutional or not (before the the bill becomes law). Oh well, I guess thats what you get when you elect senators instead of appointing them. You dont run into "campaign contribution" type bribery with that.
HAHAH!!! I guess I was wrong. I must have misread the question. The other person posted another answer and got me thinking what they were actually asking. All I can say is, oops!
Yes, I actually did the contest even though it expired. It was simple base-4 encryption (with numbers directly corresponding to letters a = 1, z = 26 etc etc etc). Check the contest website here. there is PDF file there with the code. The math question they asked was trivial. I am almost 99% sure answer was (1000000*1000001)/2 .
I first saw this in a Canadian newspaper called The National Post (article).
The funny thing was they neglected to say that the contest was expired and I was under the assumption that it was still going.
That was supposed to be a joke? Please dont attempt to make jokes when you are obviously not capable of being funny in any form. I can assure you that was the worst joke I have ever heard.
Your intellect is comparable to that of a garden tool
Please dont try to pull this typical slashdot-esque superiority bullshit routine. First of all, you are too much of a little girl to even make this claim under a real account. Second, you have no grounds to make that insult Your logic is faulty in every sense. You base this on the fact that I didnt get your "joke". You should realize that when you post shit like that we cannot see you winking. The only way one could ever make this joke in real life would be to put it in to a sarcastic context. The truth is, the only thing here that is a joke is you. You should think for a second before you go ahead and submit this trash to the comments section for a story.
Please get off of AOL and learn how things are done.
What the hell? That is a really bad analogy. There would be no reason to get the helicopters fixed by Al Quida. China is getting planes from one of the only places on earth where they produce them; they have to get them from somewhere. China buying planes from Boeing is logical, unlike your analogy.
"Palm says they will negotiate the sale of the BeOS source code for a buyer with over 2 million bucks. I am sure AOL can afford that."
What would that get them? AOL / Time / Warner is a super corporation. It's going to be cheaper for them to buy another company than it is to buy some source cord and then create an OS division.
Mass does not equal weight. Weight is measured in Newtons (usually), which happends to be what force is measured in. Mass is measured in kilograms. If you go to the moon, your mass will be exactly the same when compared to here because it is only a measurement of the quantity of matter.
On the moon a body will fall at around 1/6 of the rate of velocity that it does here on earth (about 9.8 m/s^2 here, 1.62 m/s^s there). On the surface of the earth, your weight in newtons is equal to 9.8m/s^2 times your mass (f=ma). Using that same equation, your weight on the moon would be 1.62 m/s^2 times your mass.
"One day, a corporation will bring a CAT5 line into your house, plug it in to a router, and then you will plug all your PCs into that router. Infinite bandwith!"
"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."
Well, its not entirely legal. You cannot copy CDs for other people, you can only borrow other people's CDs and copy them yourself. I think that is how it works, someone feel free to correct me if that isnt how it works.
We gained this right as soon as blank CDs were taxed. So, if we "cant" copy the CDs, then it seems rather silly if you ask me.
I think copy protection should be made illegal (in Canada, at least) or the royalties should be dropped.
On a serious note, I would prefer it if they held perfectly to the book (sans Tom Bambadil). I would love it if they made a 6 hour movie! I know, however, that would never work for hollywood.
Also, put it at the SMTP server level (as well as client SMTP sender), and no one (in Calif) can send it legally! (then you might as well make it illegal in the first place).
As soon as they release a fully funded blockbuster hollywood film detailing the rise of Rob and Slashdot, with Keanu Reeves as Rob (you know he can play the Taco!).
If MS made Office for *BSD, then it would be trivial to get it on linux. Since the porting from (coco? or whatever the GUI is called) to X would be done, something like FreeBSD's linux emulation would have to be done but by a reverse process. The native platform would be Linux but an emulation layer would be present that would read and translate FreeBSD binaries instead. However, I doubt it would be worth their time to port Office to BSD . The people who run it on their desktop would not establish a real userbase for Office. I imagine they wouldnt not break even with development / manufacturing / presentation costs.
However, I could imagine them porting to Solaris. They already did this for Internet Exploder a few years back, so the notion is certainly not totaly off the wall. (What would be funny is if their Office port was the same quality as their IE one).
I agree with you that *nix does not need Office. Linux needs Office more. Most of the people who use Linux now are hate-filled former (or still partial, as in dual booting) MS users. If these MS renegades want to switch to Linux they will be hard pressed to do so completely if they need Office or whatever for their work. The Linux user base would increase if it had Office (or at least the MS userbase would shrink)
Yah, I just bought a student copy of Mathematica for about $200 CAN. The pro version (exactly the same) is about 5 times the price of the student version. If it wasnt for the student version, I wouldnt have bought it at all. What would the makers prefer? $130 USD (minus media price) or dick squat?. And yes, I had to provide proof that I was a student (my student ID) by fax to the company.
The only problem I have with the software product is that you have to "activate" it first. I tried to register with them last Friday, but I guess it was too late and now christmas break is taking place. I said "funk dat" and downloaded a key generator. It was the only way I could use the software that I payed for. Also, it isnt illegal because I payed for the damn thing and it is considered fair use.
All I can say is that it was worth the 200 dollars I payed. If it cost any more than that, I would seriously reconsider the purchase.
Hmmmmm... What if the DSL provider did the same? Who would you turn to then?
I'd get a satellite connection
Dude... For a 15 year old you really are lAmE...
WTF are you talking about? Where the hell did you get the idea that I was 15 years old? Assumption is the mother of all fuck-ups. If you are trying to make fun of me for my using the term "dude" then you should really get your memory checked. That is an 80's saying that most 15 year olds are too young to remember.
I don't really care if my cable up-load speed is a lot lower than my download speed, I'm not providing any files to P2P anyway. I have disabled sharing in Morpheus
Wow! Another Windows user who obviously doesnt understand the structure of P2P. See, for it to work, you have to host files in addition to downloading them yourself. If you cant handle that you probably shouldnt be using the service then.
When it comes to running a VPN, there is no way that my ISP will ever figure that out. You just have to be a little smart and not overdo things.
Not just a Windows user, but a Windows user with a superiority complex. If an ISP didn't know about VPN or couldnt monitor it, then they would go out of business for lack of competency. I imagine almost every ISP knows a little more than you give credit to.
Dude! NOT cool! If my ISP blocked incoming ports I would immediatly cancel my service and switch from cable to adsl (both are available in my area). A better solution would be to throttle the file sharing ports and keep fares exactly where they were.
It is people like you who give the ISP biz a bad name
Well, now we have another medium for measuring the markup of the middlemen and stores. 2000% :)

You mean you don't get any day-after bandwidth hangovers? FREAK!!!!

any time that you give users a higher-gauge shotgun
dont you mean lower gauge? The gauge rating is inversely proportional to its power.

When was the last time you tried kde? You could argue that it is slow, but saying that it is buggy is completely untrue.

Yah, i took a risk buying mathematica because there is no trial version or whatever. M'eh, who cares, It all worked out and I am happy :)

No shit sherlock, I was providing something I left out of my explanation in the parent post to the post you replied to.
