  1. Losing focus on Sony to Add TV Tuner, DVR to PS3 · · Score: 0

The PS3 is a games console first and a multimedia machine second. No matter how much they keep adding to it, it's not going to make any that much more attractive to gamers simply because the price tag is becoming even more prohibitive.

That's one of the main reasons they're lagging so far behind Nintendo, when a cheaper alternative works better, you're doing something wrong.

  2. Google already runs ads pretty much everywhere on Google Launches First YouTube Ads · · Score: 0

And nobody minds. The ads that show up on my Gmail account are small and unintrusive text links just outside the main layout. If the ads they run are short (or even better, short tweened flash anims) it shouldn't really be a problem, on the other hand, it you have to sit through a 30 second coke ad before watching a vid then why even bother.

nah, it's simply not a widely used term, and even if it were, the word is more associated with compulsion than mere interest (as in Freak).

Not to mention it's also an anglicism for "Free Kick" in football.

There's no proper translation for terms like "nerd" or "geek" in spanish, so the only slogan that'd make sense would be "News for people who're good with computers, but socially inept", which doesn't quite have the same ring to it. As a proper nerd, I of course learned english just so I could read the original version of Slashdot. :P

Not to mention the fact that HSDPA is as close to desktop broadband as it gets (~2MB/s, 100ms pings). As nice as the iPhone looks, I'd rather have 3rd party software.

Tapwave signed LJZ after a couple months, the Zodiac's failure had more to with Tapwave's focus on it as a rival for the GBA rather than it's insane (for the time) multimedia capabilities. As for the N-Gage, the QD was a pretty decent gaming phone, if still a tad bulky, some games for it were so good it's a real shame not many people got to enjoy them and some console conversions were not bad at all. It's also a true precursor for multiplayer gaming on a mobile device, and there are some decent (and probably costly) experiments on it... Hinterwars was a clumsy attempt at MMORPG, but the long long turned based battles made it everything but portable, and the game just sucked (though the artistic design was pretty decent), Worms, Pathway to Glory and Pocket Kingdom were all great fun online, but it was nearly impossible to find players to play with.

  18. Media companies are pretty much screwed on RIAA Goes for the Max Against AllofMP3 · · Score: 1

The methods of distribution have changed, costs have dropped and they still want us to pay the same insane prices we've been putting up with for years. Regardless of whether the artists make any money or not (they seem to be doing pretty good for themselves don't they?) out of a download, the only place I've felt I was paying a fair price for a song was in allofmp3. I don't see why I can pick a game out of a bargain bin for 5 bucks after a year or two yet a 30 year album will never really drop in price. And of course, after seing just how just evil, mean and greedy the RIAA guys are, there's no chance in hell I will ever pay for an album again... I'd rather see a singer starve than feed those fat bastards ever again.

  19. It's the coolest device I'll ever own :) on Tapwave Closes its Doors · · Score: 1

Really... noone I know owns anything like it... it's a cool looking PDA that plays games, it has an ATI chip that decodes MPEG4 video in real time, it runs emulators, plays music, wakes me up in the morning, checks my email, serves as a TV remote, allow me to read books... I could go on forever :)

Everyone I show it to falls in love with it, and the fact that you can't even buy it anymore only increases its appeal... those who compare it to the N-Gage and the PSP (even other PDAs) are simply missing the point.

To those complaining about lack of development tools, you can even write apps using OnboardC, there's plenty of open source Dev enviroments for Palm, and the Tapwave SDK, while designed to integrate with Codewarrior could actually be used with tools like GCC..

You can't play Transport Tycoon Deluxe on the PSP because it doesn't have a touchscreen, and the screen on the DS is too damn small... it's the perfect device to play strategy games on the go, period.

It's a real shame Tapwave failed to crack the market, because the Zodiac was, (is, whatever) one of the coolest handheld devices ever made :)
