I just wanna know why "games" like football, soccer, rugby, and hockey act out their violence (granted, without killing anybody (usually)) and are hailed as something "good for the kids" by being sponsored in schools, yet video games, which haven't hurt anybody, are called evil because people get killed on the screen....oops, just like movies! Movies don't get nearly as much flack as video games, even though they're watched by a much broader audience.
No offense, but based on "candidate information" I've recieved in the past (especially for the current election going on), that stuff isn't any better than AOL discs content-wise.:)
Agreed. My computer is fast enough to run Flash stuff, my browser is the latest out there, I have fecking DSL, I just don't want to deal with the chaos that is Flash content. Something that would take (let's say) 10 seconds to find would be artificially lengthened to 1 minute+ simply because they use Flash for their content. This is the main reason I don't like Aqua on my G4, most of the slowdowns are artificial and mandated by Steve himself, and not the fault of my equipment.
Pardon me, but how the hell do you save $700 by building a computer yourself? I agree with your point, I just want to know who charges (and pays!) that much when most places want $50-$200.
The strange thing is that in the Apple releases, they keep talking about the bundled Classic environment. I hardly call it bundled if you have to install the underlying OS 9 to make it work.
Also remember that the OS 9 CD was unbundled from Jagwyre; you now have to buy a separate copy of OS 9 if your machine came with 10.2. And last I checked, the OS 9 installer app isn't carbonized, so as you said you're screwed after January unless they change something.
...I remember someone from Lionhead (probably the guy mentioned in the article) talking about the AI for the pets in B&W back when it was released. He mentioned that they were doing some tests and that he left his pet just standing there while he went off to do something else and forgot about it. When he came back later, the pet had gotten hungry, couldn't find any food, and proceeded to munch on it's own foot with no prompting or special coding from the programmer.
So I guess the obvious joke here is, will these new civilizations stoop to cannibalism if they aren't taken care of?
This guy probably scared off one too many pigeons in his life walking through parks and down streets... now the parents and siblings and cousins of those poor pigeons are living the high live at Google and getting revenge on this sad bag of bones.
I knew about copying and pasting files, and I completely agree that it's just a half-assed implimentation of the feature. And while yes, it may be bad design (as mentioned by the other two posters) it's really freakin' useful as it is in Windows and I want it in OS X!:)
I was under the impression that the Amiga had an Alt-Tab function long before Windows/DOS did, along with proportional scrollbars and a bunch of other neat stuff. And like the other posters mentioned, this has been in the Mac OS since OS 8.
Watch and see - most people are too busy to care about the difference between 'colours' and 'colour combinations', and without a strong counter-spin from a competitor I am certain they will get away with this one.
Not to mention the 'color' and 'colour' difference they were worried about before.;)
I agree, but what has worked great for me in the past to combat assholes who either talk in a non-whispering voice or who insist on using their cellphone is a simple, yet very loud, "SSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!".
Always shuts them up right away and seems to prevent further transgressions. Generally gets a laugh out of the other people in the theater, too.:)
I've seen you decry the "violence of the state" twice already in response to this story, yet you then suggest people get a police escort out of the theater as punishment?
First, why is LoTR's rampant merchandising "OK" while George Lucas' isn't? My brother bought LoTR the other day (more on that in a second) and it included a little flier for a replica One Ring (Chain Included, Buy Now!) and something else equally pandering which I can't remember at the moment. These in addition to the action figures and other garbage you get in the stores. I haven't heard a single complaint about this stuff.
On the other hand, I've heard numerous complaints about SW1 and SW2 products, mostly centered around George's vast greed and desire to own all money in the universe, yadda yadda yadda. Why is George Lucas "wrong" in wanting money while the LoTR crew isn't? Because you percieve the new Star Wars movies as "bad" and not worthy of making extra cash off of this stuff?
What elitist tripe. And I thought we were supposed to be above this kind of thing.
Then, there's the whole LoTR DVD issue. Yes, the same stunt was pulled with the numerous VHS versions of Star Wars, but at least they had the sense to separate their releases by more than a freakin' month! The LoTR crew is being much more blatant, but it's still no more greedy than Lucas in my opinion. Not to mention that (as I understand it) SW2's premiere edition will include gobs of 'director's cut' content, making it seem that he's being nice for a change.
Sorry for ranting, this has just been festering for a while.:)
Yep, he's talking about photorealism, not superrealism. Photorealism would be a troop of goblins marching through Times Square - no way it could be real, but it's rendered so well that you can't even tell it's not real without knowing goblins don't exist. Same for the FF movie, none of it's real, but lots if it you would be hard pressed to tell it's not real without knowing it came from a computer.

Gah!

Maybe, but everyone knows that Russia's 9th nuke is aimed at Slashdot HQ!
Thanks for telling me the ending, now I'll NEVER see it!

Or he's just nuts, whichever.
I wasn't trying to berate you, just pointing out my impression of the situation.
:)
I like knowing I'm wrong, because then I get to find out the true answer.
I knew about copying and pasting files, and I completely agree that it's just a half-assed implimentation of the feature. And while yes, it may be bad design (as mentioned by the other two posters) it's really freakin' useful as it is in Windows and I want it in OS X! :)
I just wish Apple would get around to borrowing Cutting and Pasting files from Windows.

Actually, I think his parents should have looked into birth control...

Since I generally hate people because they're fucking rude idiots...
;)
Pretty self-loathing there, aren't you?
I've seen you decry the "violence of the state" twice already in response to this story, yet you then suggest people get a police escort out of the theater as punishment?
:P
Sheesh, get your head screwed on straight.
A couple things I've been wondering:
:)

Is this a response to the release of USB 2.0 or is Apple simply trying to keep a steady stream of FireWire devices coming?
Why can't it be both?
from the fighting-back dept.
...instead?
Shouldn't that read...
from the no-shit dept.
By the time February 2019 rolls around we'll be on the other side of the Sun entirely, the asteroid will go right by us!

I just wanted to mention that your sig was cut off. What's it supposed to say?
