If your grammar is poor in the English then it's probably poor in the code too (unless you are not a native speaker).

Not sure if this is what GP was referring to, but this "the" seemed gratuitous to me.

  2. It's the Parents, Stupid! on Obama Makes a Push To Add Time To the School Year · · Score: 1

This initiative has nothing to do with kids spending more time in school, and everything to do with keeping them out of their homes where their ineffective parents let them play video games all day. The problem is, it's not a politically viable stance to say "America's parents suck at parenting, and need to read a book or 2 on child development."

Instead, Obama says "More time in school". But make no mistake, it's just a sugar-coated way of saying what he's really thinking, which is "Less time at home."

Like it or not, proper police work requires racial profiling. It requires profiling of all sorts. Until 19 white people fly planes into buildings, and another 19 Chinese people do the same, your argument is flawed.

Mod parent insightful. When I read in the summary that Washington Mutual had one of the highest rates of identity theft, that meant to me that Washington Mutual customers have one of the highest rates of identity theft. Isn't Washington Mutual also known as a fee-less bank, probably drawing customers who are poorer, and thus potentially less educated about protecting themselves from identity theft?

The last thing the government needs to be doing is making it easier for parents to be bad parents. Similarly, they should allow adult programming at all times of the day, but only on adult channels. This would make it painfully obvious to all but the most dense parents that neither TV nor the Internet are acceptable substitutes for active parenting.

I've never worked unpaid overtime, and I'm curious why anyone would. My employer wouldn't want me to work less than 40 hours a week and still get paid my 40 hour salary. Why should it work the other way?

Employment is a business agreement between 2 parties. The employer pays money in exchange for the employee's time, at a rate that both parties agree to. If you've ever worked unpaid overtime, you must not value your skills (and time) very much.

You can bet that if the roles were reversed, and you were working paid UNDERtime (working 30 hour weeks at the originally agreed upon 40 hour salary), they'd fire you in a minute. Similarly, you should 'fire' them (by quitting) the moment they suggest you work overtime without getting paid. It's a 2-way street.
