This initiative has nothing to do with kids spending more time in school, and everything to do with keeping them out of their homes where their ineffective parents let them play video games all day. The problem is, it's not a politically viable stance to say "America's parents suck at parenting, and need to read a book or 2 on child development."
Instead, Obama says "More time in school". But make no mistake, it's just a sugar-coated way of saying what he's really thinking, which is "Less time at home."
Actually, so long as you can reach your reset button between the time your door gets kicked in and the time they push you away from the keyboard, the TrueCrypt volume won't be mounted anymore.
Out of curiosity, what has been the ethnicity of the majority of airplane hijackers in the US over the past 40 years or so?
Claiming that all Muslims are a threat simply because they're Muslim is only slightly more ignorant than claiming that Muslims aren't an increased risk in this situation.
Like it or not, proper police work requires racial profiling. It requires profiling of all sorts. Until 19 white people fly planes into buildings, and another 19 Chinese people do the same, your argument is flawed.
Mod parent insightful. When I read in the summary that Washington Mutual had one of the highest rates of identity theft, that meant to me that Washington Mutual customers have one of the highest rates of identity theft. Isn't Washington Mutual also known as a fee-less bank, probably drawing customers who are poorer, and thus potentially less educated about protecting themselves from identity theft?
The last thing the government needs to be doing is making it easier for parents to be bad parents. Similarly, they should allow adult programming at all times of the day, but only on adult channels. This would make it painfully obvious to all but the most dense parents that neither TV nor the Internet are acceptable substitutes for active parenting.
It's only egalitarian if people are charged based on their net worth rather than equally. Otherwise rich people can drive whenever they want to, and a single working class mother of 2 needs to wait until the kids are asleep before going out for groceries.
If it costs me $2.00 to drive into town, it should cost Bill Gates $200M.
I don't think that any government decision related to newspapers will have "a huge impact on the future of communications in this country."
Older folks still read newspapers and vote in greater numbers than younger folks. Umm...today's older folks won't be around in the future. That's what makes them older.
Yeah, if the price of energy rose by 25%, absolutely nobody would start thinking about using less energy for a change. They didn't the last time it rose by 25%.
I've never worked unpaid overtime, and I'm curious why anyone would. My employer wouldn't want me to work less than 40 hours a week and still get paid my 40 hour salary. Why should it work the other way?
Employment is a business agreement between 2 parties. The employer pays money in exchange for the employee's time, at a rate that both parties agree to. If you've ever worked unpaid overtime, you must not value your skills (and time) very much.
You can bet that if the roles were reversed, and you were working paid UNDERtime (working 30 hour weeks at the originally agreed upon 40 hour salary), they'd fire you in a minute. Similarly, you should 'fire' them (by quitting) the moment they suggest you work overtime without getting paid. It's a 2-way street.
How about a yearly income cap, something like "how much money over $10 Million did you make last year? That's how much you owe in taxes."
Seriously, wouldn't 99% of Americans be in favor of a yearly income ceiling, provided that it was in the millions? It would help to better distribute the wealth, and still allow people to become really rich (just not filthy stinking rich).
Yes, but do those cards allow you to capture HDTV output from your cable boxes, or just Over The Air broadcasts? I'm still waiting for something I can use to capture HD HBO, but first my cable box needs to descramble it. Last time I checked, all of the HDTV tuner cards on the market were OTA only.
If your grammar is poor in the English then it's probably poor in the code too (unless you are not a native speaker).
Not sure if this is what GP was referring to, but this "the" seemed gratuitous to me.

As a member of the beta team , I can tell you everyone was pretty damn concerned about the state of the game so close to its release.
I tried to withhold my judgement until they released into open beta...
Sounds like you carry some of the blame too then. The job of the beta testers is to alert the dev team about potential problems!
I think the answer is: "because I'm a selfish asshole"

Unless caffeine in Coca-Cola counts
It absolutely counts. In fact, I would argue that caffeine is a much stronger drug than marijuana, speaking as a regular user of both.
I would argue that's a positive side effect though. Personally, I'd much rather drive on a road filled with stoned drivers than drunk ones.

Correlation != Causation!!!

Americans are allowing their government to be hostile on their behalf.
That's exactly the GP's point. You work on a renderer. You're "replacing a tie rod."
The class was mostly theory based.
someone give this guy a cookie.
What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?

Nope.
No kidding.
