But if *your* connection to the world is not working you won't get access to you email on Google's servers. I'm not advocating putting everything local, but it's difficult for one person to foresee the needs of many others.

Well it's better than the elitist guys that tell you to RTFM and turn people off from linux based OSs.
I just don't want to sit through the DVD title sequence and previews. I just want to put the disk in and watch the movie (not juggle though disabled buttons until I find the one that skips the previews and find that nothing will skip the crappy menu sequence (and the don't steal video)).
I stopped buying DVDs for this reason. It's mine: I don't want to go through the same shit every time I put it in.
Intermetallic compounds such as FeTi can store hydrogen at a greater density than liquid hydrogen. Increase the Hydrogen pressure and H atoms (not H2 molecules) fill the interstitial holes (octahedral/tetrahedral etc) between the metal atoms. Lower the pressure and H2 is released again. Research has been ongoing for a while (decades) on these hydrogen storage materials trying to find ir design better materials and better reversiblity.
If we like a television show, we buy it on DVD How do you discover new shows then? DVD's aren't DRM free either with all the equipment restrictions DVD players come with...
I'm being off-topic but I felt I should explain myself. Windows taught me a lot about computers. Linux/Unix taught me a lot more. There just comes a time when I want to get things done. So I got a mac laptop for getting things done and still play with Windows and (mostly) Linux on other computers, and if I break them, no big deal.
I am just curious, what are the 'must have' Mac apps? I am not a Mac person, never have been. I just don't know what their killer apps are that would warrant switching to their platform. Or was is just the platform? Not constantly fighting/getting agitated with the computer.
I'm sure video pros will chime in too (I'm not one of them).
I find this a common attitude on mac oriented forums:
Person 1: "I want to do this. How can I do it?" Person 2: "Well why would you want to do that?" and proceeds to explain how it's a stupid idea and how one shouldn't do it (or provide an irrelevant solution/rant).
Most of the time Person 1 has a legitimate/rational reason. Person 2 (who often is barely competent) can't conceive of every situation but feels free to criticize Person 1 without providing help.
Do you mean, for example, getting a third party navigation system as opposed to one that came in you car so you don't have you buy another navigation system when you get a new car (OK, it's a bad OS analogy...!).
I've heard this (no reference, sorry) about a very poor city or county in one of the Dakota states as means to get federal funds (or enough publicity to the same effect).
It's not that either. Most scientists rely on grants. The more published you are, the more results you are perceived to produce, and the higher your chances of getting more funding (to pay for grad students and supplies). Publishing is the measure of success really. I'm not trying to knock it, it's just that's what science has become.
You mention the same story twice in the same page here about "donating" your printer. Does it make you a good person to donate crap, or would you have done them (people who got the crappy printer) a favor by disposing of it and ridding humanity of it?
I am curious as to whether you also dislike oratorio or liturgical compositions (Masses and Passions) of the era as well. I apologize for being so off topic.
Since you asked;) I like some masses (Palestrina, etc, other Renaissance) and generally like and pick out arias from passions. But instrumental is my favorite.
My biggest dislike is that opera sounds like screaming. I generally don't like vibrato and people yelling very wide vibrato seals the deal. Feel free to send me a message if you want to discuss things further.
Every bit as shallow as people who only like country/western music. Well it's people like you why we teach children not to stereotype (The irony of the statement is not missed). Enjoy judging others. I merely stated my preference not my intolerance of people who don't share my preferences. Asshole. (Again, irony not missed).
It seems like the biggest opponents to Mac OS X have never actually used it for more than 5 minutes max.
I only have to hear about five seconds of opera to know that I hate it:)
(Disclaimer: I prefer Macs but I have Widows (and (non-Mac) BSD) computers also)
I'm just trying to do my job. They kept getting in my way (All managed computers had an insane amount of software that I didn't use (one person needed something all computers had it?, all printers were relying on only one server which they rebooted (and something was wrong with it) on the first day of class so I couldn't print any syllabi, etc. Brand new computers were acting like 486s running XP (if that's possible), it took more than 10 minutes to boot and log in on a 2GHz+ machine... Now I don't rely on any external servers, I have a printer directly connected, I can get my job done. Nobody manages my stapler, or chair, even though they are owned by the school. A computer is a tool for me which I want to work regardless of what IT is doing to some server somewhere. I realize it the school's computer which is why I returned it and got my own laptop.
Incidentally, when I was a grad student, the IT there was great; They were informative, knew a lot, and non-intrusive, So I don't have a problem with IT, just bad IT.
I'm going to back you up with anecdotal evidence. I teach at a college and I know the IT people make more than twice as what I make. Actually (and unrelated to this), IT and I are not on talking terms because they insisted on managing my office computer which I refused to allow them to do (why don't you install a video camera in my office while you're at it, fascists) so I got a mac laptop and told them to F off. in case you are wondering they are idiots (I know more about computers than they do), arrogant, and completely unwilling to talk/compromise. They would reset things (servers of various importance) at most inopportune times and screwed me every time.

We get biodiesel from fat (well, oil). So it's used somewhat.

IBM has access to the logs?

Small claims court.
My favorite genre is Baroque. I don't like anything after that. How's that?

I wonder if governments will start claiming them so they have oil drilling rights...

I'm irate. Oh wait, that a real word.
