The majority of power generated in the US comes from fossil fuels. So to power an electric car, you will convert the chemical energy in fossil fuel into electric energy in a power plant, send it over thousands of miles of power lines, doing several voltage conversions along the way, convert it back into chemical energy in your cars battery, back into electric energy as it goes to the engine, and then finally into mechanical energy moving the car. This is MUCH less efficient than just converting the chemical energy directly of fossil fuel into mechanical energy in your car's internal combustion engine. In every conversion to different type of energy you lose something. Until we can eliminate our dependence on fossil fuel to generate power, electric cars are actually worse for the environment than gasoline cars. A few months ago I signed up with my utility company to have all my electricity come from renewable sources (www.alliantenergy.com/secondnature). In this case if I get a car like this then it's using renewable sources for energy. It costs a little more but it's worth it for me to know that I'm making less of an impact on the earth.
What's not simple about using Linux? Sharing a printer. Please don't refer me to cups/samba/whatever. When I can right click on a printer and share it with another computer, I'd say it's simple. This is just an example to show that simple is a relative term.
When you ask? When money is less important than someone else's life. As individuals, we may be 'good' but collectively, voting with dollars (and expecting return on investments in our retirement accounts), we are 'evil'.
I've heard it argued that copyright/patents is the reason countries that have them are technologically more innovative than countries that don't have them.
Parent said ALL, ALL. keyword is: ALL. I have a problem because he said ALL.
Get it? ALL. He shouldn't have said ALL making you right but he said it absorbed ALL radiation not visible but ALL. Hence I am correct and you can't read because I even made the word ALL in bold font in my previous post.
The parent said absorbs all incoming radiation so I made my comment. You say it would radiate (black body, which I agree but I was trying to correct the parent).
So basically, tell the parent not me since I was trying to make the same point as you.
It was a typo, get over it. I noticed it as I was hitting submit. I'm not sure why you decided to attack me for it, but I won't deny you the pleasure of such a silly attack.

The DIY install that fails can be a nightmare to diagnose even for the uber-Geek. You want free service under warranty from the direct seller or big box retailer? You accept the default system install.
I agree with you, but I don't want the service and I would like the "choice" not to have it. I can only imagine the nightmare their tech dept will have helping customers with even preinstalled linux systems (i.e. other than windows, just because of the variety of issues that can happen). But they could still offer a choice to the customer of not getting service and not getting an OS instead of the ridiculus things you have to go through to get your "microsoft tax" back.

But it's nice to have a choice. For example I'd rather have my own copy of windows that I would install from scratch than have the manufacturer install all the crapware they want which I would spend more time removing.
Unfortunately, most of the USA doesn't have broadband. Once you get out of a city (any city - be it a city in the seattle metro area, or a city in TN) DSL becomes a non-option. Cable also becomes a non-option.
I live in a town of 5,000 people in Iowa and I have the option of dsl or cable so maybe you're out of date a little bit?
You're right, everybody should move on. And the rest of the sentence you refer to reads: "...and even more upset with ourselves for not catching it." which should take care of the rest of your points.
There is a big field of research for hydrogen storage materials with exactly your goals in mind. Doing a search for "hydrogen storage materials" will yeald several "scholarly" articles from google.
What a hack... You think after you've dropped a couple of bills on a brand new computer it would be designed to work correctly.
I'm sorry, I have a MBP. I think it "works correctly". So it gets hot, big deal. It's not a laptop. It's a notebook. Can you find one manufacturer that calls them laptops? If you get an HP for example it has an intake fan at the bottom so you really can't put it on your lap anyway because you'll block that. At least the MBP doesn't depend on the bottom for ventilation (even if for dissipation). When I have it plugged in, it's on a desk. When I use it on my lap, it's becuase I don't have a desk or power outlet, it doesn't get as hot and it's just temporary until I find a more comfortable place to work.
Quicken on mac is very different than quicken on windows (the mac version sucks). I wonder if QuickBooks is also different on different OSs.
OpenOffice on Mac? Don't go there... It's ridiculous.
How is having an intel mac where most mac games have to be run under rosetta i.e. in a virtual environment offtopic?
But I have an intel mac ;)
I wonder if you get the "microsoft tax" back if you decide not to run windows in your car :)
That would interesting as manual transmission cars will be different from automatics.

What if MS infringes on Apple IP?
Google uses linux internally, maybe MS is setting up to sue Google!

If so, it would become infinitely hot.

You're right. At first, I thought your message was about anywhere outside a big city but when I look at it again, I see that I misunderstood. Sorry.
