Just wondering, whuch idiot modded this +4 informative? It should be funny, obviously he is making fun of IE and saying that Firefox is an upgrade. Wow people, sometimes I wonder how people get mod points.
Meh, they are definitely not a niche competitor. In fact they are closer to the microsoft if that analogy is even close to being possible (consoles to PCs) because they are the ones that brought video games to the masses. They do have a lot of style but now if you look at the 360 and the ps3 the main thing going for the revo is its incredibly small size and the slick yet boxy formfactor. I am definitely going to get one when it comes out. But one thing that really hits me is that it would look really good next to an iPod nano.
It's in beta 1.5. and I think the main push is to extend a desktop technology onto the web scene. XAML is going to be used to develop UIs in Vista, which is really nice once you stop and think about it. Imagine vector-based windows which can be resized infinitely on your 1600x1200 LCD. I think this is just usual slashdot bias.
"VB6FanBoy "Assembly? I can do in two minutes that which takes you two weeks to write. VB 6.0 is the bomb, but MS ruined it with VB.NET""
True, very true. I am one of those VB6Fanboys, I have to admit. But I have not dragged a control onto a form in perhaps a year, and I have been a VB programmer for 2 so that's pretty significant.
Wow, people are so moronic. The $40 average no doubt is from cheapo Celeron D's and such, and the P4's at the high end probably cost upwards of $80 and the dualcores at least $150~$200. That's not even mentioning the Xeons and such, as well as Itanium (actually I know nothing about Itanium, if it's even still being produced or not.)
There is a M$ comic for developers, it's really stupid and called "Script Guy" or something, who teaches you to use VBScript to automate useful tasks. Really lame, I used to get it with Technet Flash newsletters.
256MB is by no means a minimum, it's just required for the full Aero "Glass" effects, such as window transparency. This article is a lot of FUD, because as demonstrated by some guy who posted above this, those "requirements" are actually the recommended specs for running Aero Glass with full features. Besides, I think you can already get most of that stuff in a PC around $1000 or less.
Actually, their cards aren't that bad. I have a prototype Deltachrome S8 a friend of mine who works there gave me, and it runs DX9 games very well. However, the tiny fan is too loud and also the card is a little unreliable so I'm back to my Radeon 9200SE.
Umm, my bargain $600 pc with integrated graphics played everything until about two years ago, and then I bought a graphics card (although i bought it for way too much) for $80 (could have gotten it for $60 or less but was too lazy to go to the farther away stores) and I will be able games on it for at least the next 3 years at minimum requirements. consoles when a new one comes out (which is becoming few and far between, i admit) you have to upgrade the whole thing. plus PCs are not just gaming machines, they have other purposes too. Right now there is hardly a way to live without a pc in the US, with all the reports n stuff you have to type for school so the fact that it can play games is a nice side effect.
that gives me an idea, having a wifi card reader so u can... oh wait nvm that's like the same thing. im waiting for the wifi cam that runs linux so you dont need to use their stupid software. and there's no way for icons that u cant get rid of, it's called shift+delete.
i think it's aimed at people who can't use linux themselves but are tired of viruses. it's like this: linspire sees all these n00bs who are getting pwn3d by teh evil hax0rs, so they make a d!stro for teh n00bs. got it?
yes, but the thing is until recently AMD wasn't very popular at all, and if you have few customers you aren't going to waste money making tons of chips that are just going to sit there. recently, AMD has been making chips that wipe the floor with intel chips and more and more gamers and other consumers are choosing AMD for a better bang for their buck. this is why they are having problems filling orders because they didn't think they would have this much business.
Not as susceptible, but possibly targeted. But then more bored kids would have things to do like optimizing their kernels and recompiling gentoo and whatnot, (I really have no idea what I am saying, but am about to install slackware linux anyway)
Besides the fact that Unix variants are inherently more secure than Windows, the fact that *nix coders have productive things to do besides writing worms, and that most hackers hate M$ for being so, well, $, I really don't see why Linux isn't hacked as much as Windows.
Sounds way better than the Nokia, faster processor and a hard drive for one thing.
just wondering, what is ctrl-f5? i did it and it worked but y?

Wow people. can't you see he is being sarcastic? How the hell did this get modded +5 informative? should be +5 funny.
Me too!
Actually, it wasn't even necessary to RTFA to see that, it was in the summary too. Some people need to get their vision checked.
Agreed. with no experience whatsoever, I installed slackware linux which is reputed to be one of the more difficult distros. In under 30 minutes too.

Correction: Even Intel's GMA900 integrated graphics are able to run Vista.

windows. it shouldn't be possible to have an icon that is undeletable. try shift+delete. or better yet to it from cmd, that's unstoppable. :)
umm... i'm an absolute noob, so how do i upgrade the kernel? I have slackware 10.1

just an interesting thing I noticed, when blizzard does something they do it thoroughly.
Yes, I feel the same way. Although I still feel that the tool palette should be dockable to the side of a window.
