Is it really that tough to figure out why they aren't making as much? It's too expensive!
They have to realize, it's not like everyone can afford 20 bucks just for admission for a couple to go to the movies. Add food and a drink onto that, and you're talking about at least a 30 dollar night.
Instead of raising the price, why not try lowering the price a few bucks? I'm sure the difference in price would be offset by the amount of people going back to theaters.
I DO like going to the theater to see a movie. It gets me out of the house, and it makes me feel like I'm doing something as opposed to sitting around watching tv. But it's not possible to spend 20 bucks every weekend just for 2 hours of entertainment. A few months down the line and that 20 bucks could BUY me the movie on DVD.
I like how this has a -1 (Troll) and got my karma to bad while "Did they fix that one really significant bug? You know, where all the games fucking suck? If not, I hope they fix it soon." has a 5 (funny)
"I guess the question is, how many IM clients is too many, and will a client like Trillian obviate the intended utility of their product?"
IMO, the ideal solution is to just have one network/protocol for IMs. Have one network, and many different front ends. Sort of like e-mail...
That way, the user will be able to choose the front end that's best for them. And it will ultimately result in better client side software, since the competition between companies will force companies to make a product that's better than the other guys.
I doubt you're going to get many people to switch from AIM.
The amount of users on AIM is the main pull to get it... If you want to talk to someone, most likely their IM program of choice is AIM. You're not going to switch, unless everyone you talk to switches as well... and I don't sense a mass exodus coming anytime soon.
Go to a college campus, and nearly everyone has a screen name on AIM... I know competition is good, but unless all these IM programs can talk amongst each other, I don't see anything overtaking AIM anytime soon.
Ok, so after looking at the NIH's website, I may not be 100% correct. I found a FAQ dealing with stem cells that are allowed to be federally funded vs stem cells that can't be federally funded, and as long as the proper accounting takes place to show where the money came from, you can still receive funding.
However, this doesn't apply to the situation I originally proposed... other research grants, and stem cell research that can't be federally funded. Couldn't find anything on that.
Just wanted to mention a random fact that I heard about medical research and federal funding.
Say a company gets federal funds to research cancer, or MS, or any other disease. Most places are involved with the research of many diseases/cures/whatever.
If one lab, or one person even, involved with that company is researching stem cells, federal funding for ALL projects is cut off. Even if the stem cell research within the company is being funded entirely by private sources.
It's because of this policy that a lot of labs aren't able to do any stem cell research.
Unless, of course, Mario throwing a turtle shell at his enemies is violent.
Frankly, at 23, I don't care whether a game is violent or not. Unfortunately, a lot of others do. If it isn't violent, or filled with sex, it's not "mature" for them.
I've had this discussion with a lot of people, who say games like Mario are only for kids. Since when is violence necessary for a fun game? Looking through my library of 26 gamecube games, the most violent one is probably Metroid Prime... but that's a sci fi game where you're fighting aliens. Unless aliens invade the Earth, I don't think that's going to inspire kids to become violent.
So, even though I've been against censorship in video games my entire life, I now realize... is it really necessary?
Ahh, the days of Gemstone 3. I remember my days of living as Lord Sharvan Darvanshire, half elven ranger... I probably spent more time in Elanthia during 9th grade than I did in school. What a big dork I was. But, it was fun for my friends and I.
But... I attribute my typing skills to having played GS3 so much. So, I guess it wasn't a whole loss! Thank you, GS3, for my 120wpm typing skills.
You're in Town Square Central.

Yah, enough of proving my dorky love of text based worlds.
It's been mentioned that maybe Nintendo will move the game over to their next gen system... I doubt this will happen, but...
Since the Revolution will be backward compatable, wouldn't it be possible to have the game sense whether it's in a GC or Revolution, and adjust graphics settings accordingly? Playable on GC, but better looking on Revo?
Computer games have graphics settings... It seems like it should be fairly easy to bring this type of thing to consoles as well.
Two different versions... And the more expensive version doesn't even come with a wireless adapter... that's another HUNDRED bucks.
Baaaaaaad move on Microsoft's part. Out of fear that their games won't sell as well, publishers are going to have to design their games to not need the hard drive... either that, or everyone without a hard drive is going to have an expensive paperweight when games still require the hard drive.
This is going to lead to a fragmentation of the Xbox owning public, which is a bad thing for everybody... the consumer, and the gaming companies.
I played WoW since closed beta, and bought it the day it came out.
In about 3 months, I made it to level 60. But... then my interest in the game sort of ended. I didn't care about high end raids, or about any PvP content. Elite content was more of a hassle for me than it was fun and exciting. I eventually cancelled my account.
So, my question is, are there any plans for more solo content for the endgame? I understand the concept of a MMORPG is to interact with others, but I don't want to have NOTHING to do if I can only play for an hour and want to do something alone.
Personally, I actually enjoy the previews.
I enjoy seeing on the big screen what's coming out. (Granted, if I've seen the preview before it's annoying, but if it's new I'm interested)
Since it's entertaining for me, I welcome the extra 20 or so minutes of entertainment.
Is it really that tough to figure out why they aren't making as much? It's too expensive!

Because otherwise...
Well...
The games still kinda suck on PSP... (besides Lumines)
Bah. Something that could have been funny, slightly ruined due to my thinking I was on another board, and my impatience to click the preview button!

I walked away from the computer with the "10 Computer Mishaps" page open.
Then my fiance used the computer and glanced through the page that was open.
Let me tell you, the jabs I got for being a huge dork and finding any humor in these sure were funny.

Link to the FAQ

Hey, I said I can't prove it with a link.
So prove me otherwise, otherwise I'll continue to believe a doctor's word over yours or anyone else's here.
The source of it was my fiance who found out this information in one of her med school classes.
So while I don't have a link to support my claim, this was straight from a Doctor's mouth (her professor)

Right, and the next thing you'll tell me is that the Earth isn't flat! And that the sun doesn't revolve around the earth. Blasphemers!
