You also need to remember that a PC game and a Console game are on two completly different platforms. Games can run MUCH MUCH better at higher resolutions on console than on a computer as a console's main task is running games. They have high floating point calculations and the entire game was programmed for that system. Not to mention your not going to be enabling 4x AA and 8x AF on a 1080i resolution. You probably wouldnt even need Antistrophic Filtering as it is such a high resolution the jaggies would be severly diminished already.

Theres your problem right there, your relying on microsoft's console to give you good games. Did you really expect anything more than what they were going to give you? Didnt you see the games that were on xbox? Its going to be the same thing this time around as well. Sadly most americans games are usually crap, while there has been alot of good games released by american companies, the majority of kickass games are made by japanese developers. So far microsoft hasnt gotten into the japanese market, and with the launch titles they have now, i dont think there going to squeeze in there. If microsoft doesnt get in there, your going to get the same old american games. FPS's, Racers, Sports Titles, and every once and a while an action platformer.

  4. Re:Why on Final Fantasy XII U.S. Demo · · Score: 0

I have seen the game, while it looks beautifull, the game looks really stale and seems to think it can use the fighting system of a MMO in a console rpg. Have you seen the game at all? If you decide to use the 'non action' battle system, the game actually pauses while it waits for you to select an action. Not only this, but you only control one person at a time. Meaning that while you move around, your other characters move about and attack on there own. -I- want to be able to control all of my characters, level them and use them as i see fit. I dont want a computer to make a decision for me.

Is it just me or does the main character look like a deformed human chipmunk? Worst character design EVER. Gladly, everyone else seems to actually look normal.

  5. Why on Final Fantasy XII U.S. Demo · · Score: 0

Why is everything starting to go to quick, action based, gameplay? When i play an RPG, i want to be able to sit down, have fun, relax, and follow the storyline while (slowly) leveling up my characters.

"No question about it, Final Fantasy XII is radically different from its predecessors. The days of random battles, isolated "drama stage"-style combat arenas and lining up politely to take swings at bad guys are gone. This is not the old-school Final Fantasy action you've come to expect -- but the trade-off is a fast-paced, combat-intensive game with a vast, contiguous world and danger on all sides."

This is suposed to be Final Fantasy, one of the oldest, most loved rpg's in america, why exactly does it need to change so its more like other rpg's where you can see your enemies? I lived for random battles, random battles MAKE a final fantasy RPG.

"Battles now take place on the main exploration screen. You can see enemies from an impressive distance; when you're far away, they wander around on their own paths, doing their own thing, even getting into skirmishes with one another. There's no transition to combat, no change in music or scene as you engage the foe. Enemies can sneak up on you from behind, and likewise, you can get the jump on foes by initiating combat before they see you."

So now there stripping something else that Final Fantasy is known for? No random battles and now we dont even get a catchy little battle tune to initate combat? What the hell were they thinking?

"Oh, and all your party members are visible at all times; you only have direct control over the party leader. The others are computer controlled. You can, however, change your party leader on the fly by pressing Up on the D-pad and toggling through your active characters. (If you prefer, you can turn off Gambit Mode to prevent your team members from auto-attacking, allowing you to control their actions.)"

Well now it seems like they stripped the RPG element out of the game, no longer are we playing a role, but were controlling an entire team. Are we god now?

It looks like they took a mediocure MMO (FFXI), a mediocure strategy game (tactics) and ripped off a little bit of Chrono Cross and KOTOR and mixed them together to make a hopefully (atleast) mediocure RPG. They really need to stop trying to change the mechanics of the game each time around and try to worry about the storyline a little bit more. It seems sad, but i think the last good Final Fantasy was on the original Playstation.

The reason why puzzles, 'real' rpg's, first person shooters, and strategy games like Starcraft/Civilization/Sim City, ect. will stay on PC is because of the control scheme. It has nothing to do with how much intelligence a user needs to play the game or because the game doesnt have action in it.

Its because you have to actually CLICK with these genre's of games, you cant move an analog stick or d-pad quick enough or fast enough to actually beat/have fun in a game like that. Its the same reason why you dont see fighting games, platformers, racing titles (The majority anyway), or third person shooters on pc. You just cant control them well enough to make them fun.

Once a certain genre has been designed for a platform, it cant go to another platform with the same expections, this is why halo is great on the console but is a really crappy first person shooter to put on PC, it was designed with a controller in mind.

All of your comments are down right wrong, i cant believe someone could have such a bias towards PC gaming, in which the entire market is run by graphics, first person shooters, and RTS's. You seem to forget that with every console generation (since the Ps1), the console has surpassed the PC in specs, in a year or two it slowly creeps up and passed the console, but none-the-less the console lead the way. Console games have such a greater compacity for different genre's it isnt funny and (your talking about three systems here, not to mention the PSP and DS now) game of the year usually turns into game of the month for consoles. Theres so many great games to pick up on consoles, while your left with (insert random fps) or (insert random RTS) for PC's. Theres just far too many great games that come out on consoles, 20-40 a year, while less than 10 absolutely great games usually get released for PC a year.

The problem with mythbusters, and they do this often, is they only did one test to see if it would work in one way. They only aligned the mirrors in one direction, every single one of them at the same degree, meaning that the light that hit the center mirrors wouldnt reflect on the same spot the top mirrors did. If you watch the show they did, you can clearly see the reflection of the mirrors all across the 'boat' from 3 to 6 feet, not on a single point.
