I know that there's themes, but this is terrible for a default. My question is, where can I officially voice my opinion to the firefox team about this? I know that complaining on slashdiggity won't get anything accomplished.
If the insurance company has any clue about marketing, they will realize that this is free publicity for them. This is obviously going to get on news around the world because of the freakishness/humor behind it. This is free advertising for them, or could just turn ugly if they don't pay for it.
The repairs will be way less than the PR spin that they could put on this, rather than looking like uncaring assholes in front of a world audience.
While this is funny and I once would agree, I completely disagree anymore. Our kid here is smart and can do whatever the hell he wants.
If anything, if nothing else works out, he might as well be able to love and be loved by friends and family, something more important than anything else.
However, having an attitude such as yours is no way to love or be loved. Think about it before you post next time. There's too many fun people and attractions out there to be wasting away in bitterness. Perhaps a change of scenery would help.
While I think that arrogant people are the worst kind, I think deep down inside, you need to have a bit of that confidence to get through many situations. Have a little bit, just not too much.
As for the rest of it, I think our friend should go to a big school where it is easy to find a lot of people like him. The reason I like a big school is because there are tons of all kinds of people, so you can branch out and not get stuck in a small world of 100% geeks. It's an important thing to have. And alcohol too:)
Wow, I was just telling a friend that I'd love to be slashdotted sometime in my life, but not like this! Does this poor guy deserve to be humiliated in front of a hundred thousand people? I kinda feel bad for him, regardless of what he did.
Hmmm... I'm not able to convey what I'm really trying to say. It just seems weird, almost that it's not newsworthy or should be kept quiet or something. I guess pulling 2 allnighters after half of your best friends are about to graduate will do this to you.
After about the fourth email from my brother (who's actually quite a smart dude) asking how to get rid of some obscure adware/spyware crap put onto his work computer while he was on his home connection, I sent a brash e-mail basically saying "If you can't trust internet explorer to stop putting stupid shit on your work computer, i recommend using mozilla firefox here for casual browsing"
He hasn't e-mailed me with another problem since. I'm not sure he got the jist that I don't want to spend all day googling for solutions, or maybe he did check out firefox and now uses it to surf and gamble or whatever he's doing. But you're right - MSIE is the end all culprit, worse than the email viruses if you ask me.
Thank you for defending my beloved Buckeye State, but how dare you put The Ohio State Buckeyes on the same line as the Columbus crew???
The Scarlet and Gray deserves 20 lines on its own with all of the activities going on down there. The football program alone is a bigger draw than most of these other things combined (the stadium consistently fills 105,000+ fans -- not many beat that).
Not only that, but Columbus, OH (and probalby Cleveland as well) is a business and logistics mecca of the nation. Here's why:
Location: Within 500 miles of Greater Columbus:
58% of U.S. population & 50% of Canadian population
61% of U.S. Manufacturing Capacity
80% of U.S. Corporate Headquarters
Logistics Assets
2 International Airports
3 Intermodal rail yards
40 Freight forwarders and customs brokers
140 Trucking Companies - 40 National Carriers
Over 150 million square feet of warehouse space
Foreign Trade Zone #138 and 24-hour customs
Not to mention the incredible Logistics program at OSU
So don't be surprised when you and your business come to this rapidly-growing city for business.
Beyond the Wineries mentioned above, downtown Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinatti areas all have party scenes that knock the socks off of most cities that are comparably-sized. We Ohioans know how to have fun. I dare any of you to come visit Ohio State , Ohio University, Bowling Green, Toledo, or Dayton (and maybe Miami of Ohio, although that's more questionable) and try to keep up.
Yes, geologically, Ohio is flat and boring. But if you are near a city here and aren't having fun, then that's your fault, because citizens here are hard-working, friendly people. It's all about the agricultural values that are so fine-grained into Central Ohio, as well as the tough working-class values that are in Northeast Ohio.
Been using Mandrake since 6.1... all the way from the beginning! I've seen some other distros, but none match the friendliness of the distro AND of the community.
With 10.0, my only recommendation is to get Cooker's 2.6.6 kernel, install it (and the kernel-source package if you wish), and fix up your/boot/ files and/etc/lilo.conf file (and run 'lilo') so that you can have both kernels.
2.6.3 seems a bit raw for me, and 2.6.6 helped with a couple of drivers.
I'm probably going to go to new gnome/evolution/etc before 10.1 comes out too. Too tempting not to try!
OU students know how to use computers? This is really surprising!
I'm not sure how many of you are from Ohio, but OU is known as a little party school down in Athens, OH (the poorest and filthiest county in Ohio) that consists mainly of hippies/potheads, perpetual rude drunks, and overall obnoxious girls. Fun for a visit, but definitely not the place I'd want to go for 5 years.
Here's a question - if I have a really kickass video card, but never play games, run at the highest resolution, or do anything fancy, are cycles being wasted?
Could those cycles be donated to the main CPU in some sort of SMP scheme?
A bit offtopic, but being a 22 year old phogey myself, I think it's ridiculous when an 18 year old is called a "man". I dont even consider myself a man -- i just feel young in this world still. Looking at the morons known as freshman here, I think the word "kid" works better.
Yes, 18 is a legal adult in the US... kinda... but I think of nothing but "punk kid" instead.
Just a general comment to all those in high school and planning on going to college:
TAKE AP EXAMS!! TAKE A LOT OF EM AND STUDY HARD!
I passed out of about 35 credits for college becaues I had an awesome AP exam showing, and many were offered at my school. 15 credits of math, 5 for computer, 10 for history... then some spanish I got credit for.
Not only will you save money, but you'll be able to skip menial stuff and get into your major courses earlier - and will get yourself a more spread-out schedule so that you don't have to cram a ton of classes in because you "lost" freshman year.
I have it on easy street now for my last year because of AP exams. And the history classes i missed are HARD to get A's in, i hear. So take the time, study it, get a 5, and forget it:)
Back when AMD announced the K7 and I was in high school, I decided to invest in them. I saw this was a company that was going to take it to Intel by lowering prices and having faster, more reliable processors.
Intel ruined my parade a bit as they undercut and lowered prices. AMD, however, is still taking it to Intel, and things look good in the 64-bit market.
Were I to sell that stock now, I would lose money. However, I'm hanging onto it because I'm confident in AMD as a company, both marketing wise and technology wise. You don't take on Intel in one year, just like nobody will take out Harley Davidson, Victoria's Secret, or Microsoft quickly. It took Wal-Mart a LONG time to take over, and now look at K-Mart.
My point is that I think AMD is doing things right. I see value in this company still. I'm still using my Athlon 550 as my main processor, about 4.5 years old and still doing everything I need. Go AMD! Can't complain about competition in a standards-based environment
personally, i wouldn't let that shit touch my penis (haha with a 10 foot pool, nonetheless!)... what if it get ANOTHER penis off of your penis rather than enlarging it?!
Ehh... i'd keep flossing, brushing, and using a good mouthwash. Even if this procedure becomes widely used in the 30 years when the average slashdot reader starts having major teeth problems, do you think it will be CHEAP?
No. I don't want to program, I'm too busy myself to get involved in gaim development. I'm not being a bastard and requesting crazy features. I'm offering money for an easy feature.
I've been using and following gaim since it was born. Great project, been through some great leaders.
There is, however, one feature that I've willingly said that I'll pay 5 dollars via paypal to whoever implements it: I want the auto-reconnect plugin to turn on my away message if it had to reconnect me and I was away before I got disconnected.
I don't understand why the feature doesn't exist. Nothing bothers me more than getting disconnected, reconnected, and then i'm no longer away and one of my drunk friends wakes me up at 4am.
OK OK, so i was wrong about the Apple thing. But this type of success cannot be duplicated quickly, and the timing is not right for ION. There just isn't enough userbase support for this type of thing.
Linux is still mainly (although that's changing alot, especially this year) in the realm of geekdom with a userbase who are knowledgable and can build their own computers cheaper. The server side are the huge corporations that will be in competition with ION.
I just think it's a flawed dot-com like business plan right from the get-go. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see this company lasting two years. I still haven't been shown any type of market (besides the few "I would!" posts) that would buy this rather than something else.
Stability is the least of linux's problems. Usability and acceptance are. Focus on those two, which other distributions are doing, and that's where you'll see success. This just adds more restrictions to something that needs no restrictions.
Apple thrives on an extremely loyal customer base that took years to build. Where is that customer base going to come from for ION?
I personally have no problem running too much hardware on linux anyway. I think the open-source community is taking quite a nice chunk out of that, and things improve with each new kernel release.
I just don't see a need for this distribution, especially when Mandrake is running fine on my hardware (which isn't all mainstream either) and I can just throw Mandrake 5 bones when I can't afford much else.
People, quit crying. It's YOUR responsibility to keep backups. Now go take your business elsewhere and don't give money to assholes. It's that simple.
I know that there's themes, but this is terrible for a default. My question is, where can I officially voice my opinion to the firefox team about this? I know that complaining on slashdiggity won't get anything accomplished.

(Late reply) - I've never been to Athens on Halloween.. much better times to go, if you ask me. Does the county have water filtration yet? Heh.
But the Ohio State engineering and business students are the ones that market and sell it and make the millions while fucking our much hotter girls
BTW: CWRU does not stand for Case Western Reserve University -- it stands for Case Women R Ugly
Proud owner of a kegerator (with full keg right now!) at THE Ohio State University

Have these guys ever taken Marketing 101, or ANY type of business course? What kind of business plan is this, and who honestly expects it to sell?
Let me give you one obvious hint - steal business ideas that are GOOD, not those that have been holding Apple back for the past 15+ years.
