It said "$69 Billion" in English, using what could be taken as an American dialect, on a US-based site, so that is pretty clearly indicative of United States dollars. Sorry if there was no fine print or legalese to explicitly explain details, but it looked rather obvious anyway.
The Reuters article referred to 2.1 trillion rubles
Same thing, right? As long as a common, changeable currency is mentioned, there is nothing wrong with translating it into a form people understand, no? I for one would have had no clue what to make of a figure stated in rubles, while US Dollars make sense to most North Americans, Europeans, and others without them having to look up currency conversion factors.
Should copyright even be as long as in the pre-1978 law? Is the Berne Convention obsolete and in need of breaking to actually preserve cultural history?
Maybe it is actually a good thing that some elements of pop culture seem to find away by becoming old and out of print without being released to the public domain? This might help push our culture to continue to evolve and put new spins on old ideas rather than simply relying forever on old work. Old art should be admired but it was not always old, someone had to create it, and if we dwell too much on the past we will not create our future. Perhaps the Berne Convention, et al. spur continued innovation by limiting use of old works?
Think of it as being able to walk into a fancy department store, steal anything you want, and never get caught.
That's a poor analogy that has been used for decades now to describe software, movie and music piracy. It is not valid because shoplifting from a store involves taking a physical product that detracts from the store's and manufacturer's supply, resulting in an obvious loss. This is not the same with intangible digital copies, as there was no physical product and no loss of actual property or resources.
Who is to say, if piracy were not possible, that all the pirates would actually purchase the music/movies/software instead? I know for a fact that an instance of piracy is not the same as a lost sale. In my youth, I downloaded a lot of software and music because there was no possible way for me to afford to purchase most of it. (I still purchased the music I liked most, as I do to this day) Had Napster, IRC, etc. not been there for me, I simply would not have had those products, and would still not have and could not have purchased them. So while I am NOT advocating piracy, I think it is important to call bullshit on comparisons that equate a case of piracy to stealing from a "fancy department store." In the case of my own piracy, the net loss to the rights holders was zero, and many other "pirates" tell similar stories.
Drop those full size USB ports, and add a (micro) SD card slot.
It is totally ridiculous that all NEXUS devices are missing that one, even the new Nexus 10.... Full sized USB I can understand for missing : Those plugs are huge. They would literally be the thickest thing in the tablet.
Amen to the SD slot brother, amen. I had a Nexus 7 and a Nexus 10 in my shopping cart two clicks away from buying on two different occasions, but couldn't pull the trigger. Why? The final reason to pass on them was the lack of external/removable/upgradable storage. I want my music with me on my tablet, AND room for other stuff, and there are things I sometimes do that put me out of wifi range. Cloud storage is absolutely not an acceptable alternative (yet) for me. Deal breaker.
I wouldn't mind full-size USB ports though, since it sure would be nice to be able to simply and easily plug damn near anything into it. I've found that there is a work around allowing you to mount a USB drive but that is less than ideal and has limits. The physical size would not be bad if you just tapered the case gracefully so one edge or part of it was a bit larger.
Uh, CCTV so sensitive departments can not be overtaken by someone barging through a door or transporting dangerous prisoners without being followed the whole way? Jeez, take a dang lesson from Target.
Why doesn't someone start a petition that's actually useful, like, I dunno, repealing the stupid 2nd amendment or something?
You try that I'ma fuckin shoot you right in the face! We don't need no more gun control, people just need to STFU when they talkin' to me and not make me angry!!! And, you know, four fathers in a militia or sumthin. America!
Is it comforting to live in such a simple world where you are right and Islam is wrong? I don't think a crusade is the answer, and I don't think you can "simply call a general mobilization" that will fix everything. Do you really want to go fight in a huge, messy regional war even though you were already perfectly free to get up this morning and fix whatever you wanted for breakfast? Call me lazy and content, but I'm not prepared to take on the entire Muslim world in an unnecessary war. Most of them are as happy with their way of life as we are with ours, so if they stay over there I'll continue to enjoy their oil and we'll call it even.
Is this fair to HTC, or does it give Samsung a further competitive advantage over them, given that they probably had something to gain in their agreement with Apple and keeping it from Samsung's eyes? HTC need all the help they can get.
This is the suspect part. Why would they want the father to sign a non-disclosure agreement? How is fining the man a deterrent to others if they never hear about it?
Ass-covering. Legal ass-covering and greed, plain and simple. Always question authority, always know your rights, and never voluntarily give them up, especially if someone tries to pressure you to do so.
These are rhetorical questions of course, as its obvious why.
Yep. Their revenue enforcement model is shaky at best, and they know it, so they need to induce fear and rely on obfuscation and empty threats as much as possible. Too bad they are pretty good bullshitters and aren't called on it frequently enough.
The "article," which is not really an article but more of a brief opinion blurb that paraphrases an article, says Scandinavia. However, this happened in Finland, which is NOT Scandinavian no matter how many people wrongly think so. The FInnish language does not share a common origin with Scandinavian languages, and it has been quite a long time since FInland was ruled by Sweden, with Russian rule between that and Finnish independence. Sure, it is near Scandinavia, and the Sami have long lived throughout the region and across modern borders, but Finland has much less in common with Sweden, Norway, and Denmark than those three countries and populations share with each other.
Anyway, the link and quote should have referred to the original story, which was a bit more detailed and accurate.
...without burning your trailer down. Deep frying is a great method for cooking a turkey, provided you follow a few simple safety steps:
1. Get an education, apply yourself to something you can do and can tolerate doing, and get a good job.
2. Buy a house with a decently-sized lot. Alternatively, buy a nice, big lot and build on it.
3. Place fryer outdoors (not a in garage or shed or under a carport, it will work in precipitation), at least 50 feet from any structure, and preferably any over-hanging trees.
4. Make sure your turkey is completely unfrozen (thawed if you don't buy fresh/ dethawed if you are a hillbilly)
5. Turn the freaking flame off for a second while you drop the turkey in the damn fryer to begin with.
Steps 1-2 are optional but recommended, and step 3 is common sense that will likely prevent death under most any unfortunate occurrence. Step 4 is required if you want to eat turkey in a reasonable amount of time rather than clean up a mess and be forced to throw the turkey in the oven behind schedule. Step 5 is another failsafe that should prevent death and destruction should you screw up any other step.
So if Marco Rubio can't say how old the Earth is, what will he do if life originating more than 10,000 years ago on Mars is found? Will his head literally explode, will he resign and simply go away, or will he just make a poor attempt to not answer any further questions? I'm betting on that last choice.
Just search Bing for how to Google your problem, then call your system administrator.

Do computer viruses count as biological weapons? If so, international treaties may be in jeopardy.
If you thought the US Defense Department was over budget and behind schedule before, just wait until full Microsoft integration is complete.
