the hitchhiker's guide "trilogy" and the dirk gentley books are satirical books in science fiction form, so there is much more truth in them than you might think.
Calling the HTC Universal a "phone" when it's bigger than a PDA is a bit misleading.
bigger than a pda? well, how big exactly is a pda?
You're comparing a product with nearly a decade of people writing shitty apps with a few lucky hits to a product platform that hasn't even been released.
there are more good apps for windows mobile alone than good apps for all apple products - that comes because of a larger installed base. anyway, you don't get it, do you? i am comparing an open product with a closed and locked one. you can make apps for windows mobile, you cannot make apps for iphone.
I am currently working for a german company which is developing a business software for the waste management industries in the whole europe. I can tell you, nowadays the waste management industry is really big business. The recycling processes are very advanced and that is why the waste is worth quite a lot of money, especially metals, paper, glass and plastics, and by charging the citizens for collecting the trash bins the waste manage industry makes double profits.
In europe, a lot of waste is already pre-sorted by the citizens, the rest is either sorted automatically or shipped to china where it is sorted manually and then shipped back.

Versus the 2.5mm stupid-ass jack on Windows Mobile devices? I'll take my chances with the fully standard minijack.
sorry? my windows mobile phone has got a standard 3.5mm jack and i use my sennheiser headphones with it.
Why would you need either of those with an internet connection? Why pay 25 cents for a stupid MMS message when you can just send a friggin email?
because it is a "friggin" phone and it should be able to communicate with other phones, not only with computers. gsm phones can do messaging for lots and lots of years and a brand new phone can't? ridiculous.
I'm sure the battery will be replaceable for anyone with five minutes, just like the iPod is now.
in other phones the battery can be replaced within seconds. it can be very practical to keep more than one battery at home and swap when you have the need.
It's just a handheld electronic device.
it is a too much hyped electronic device which promises lots, but cannot do even the basic stuff. my base of comparison is my htc universal which is very practical. it is a full featured gsm phone with umts support, sms, mms, java mobile and so on (and i can even use different sim cards with it). i can play games with it - even doom and duke nukem 3d, synchronise with outlook, listen to music (mp3, ogg, whatever) without being limited by the memory (sd card slot), watch movies, use gps navigation, use remote desktop to connect to my computer, instant messaging (icq, msn, yahoo, jabber, you name it), i have a choice between at least 3 different web browsers, read books, edit pictures i made with my camera and so on and so on. i can even run linux on it if i want to and it also does have a keyboard. you see, it is about choice. slashdot used to be about choice, but not anymore, i suppose.
if a software can be developed for a handheld device, then the device can be very practical and multifunctional. but when a pda is intentionally limited to a couple of functions then it is crap, in this case, a high priced lifestyle crap. i don't care much about the interface, i want to use the device.
revolutionary? pretty much every windows mobile navigation system can do this, the function is called POI (points of interest). generally you can either choose POIs nearest to your current location received from GPS or in any location you choose.
well, amiga 3000 was 17 years ago, not 20 years ago, but that just are semantics. the main difference is, that amiga and its os was built for a professional multimedia workstation, not a small handheld device. gp also forgets that the main competitor of windows ce, palm os, could not even do multitasking until the fifth generation came out in 2002. that is very poor, especially as a small competitor of palm (franklin ebookman) managed to do multitasking and a much better operating system (and a much better pda actually) in 1999 already.
care to show me which commodore could handle 800x600? as far as i know the latest commodore 20 years ago was amiga 500 and it could go nowhere near this resolution.
what's wrong with a file system? it is pretty much the easiest way to access my music and video.
exactly. anyway, most windows pda phones can do pretty much the same and the carrier even sell those.
yep. most of them were pregnant, but not married.
Dennis Moore
it is about the target group, you see. other oems only make their products for heterosexual people.
i second that
fyi, 1 estonian kroon coin works as well and costs 1/15th of an euro coin. it works even in safe deposit boxes.
i read books on my pda phone and since the display is the most power hungry part the battery charge won't last long.
yesturday. i use my pda phones so my batteries last no more than a year and then i have to recharge every 4 hours.

calling names doesn't help your argumentation, it only shows that you are too stupid to argue.

it is not, i just don't care about the shift key

i had an easier solution - just switched to a digitizer. added bonus is that the colleagues stopped to use my workstation when i was away.

hello shelley
more like (but not exactly like) great britain and netherlands are both parts of european union.
exactly. in soviet union russia was the russian soviet federative socialistic republic, ukraine was ukrainian soviet socialistic republic and so on.
to be honest i found piano much more difficult because
1) you have to play with both hands
2) guitar is more about patterns which are easy to memorise
