I like being able to post completely anonymously. I even like being able to misinform people about my identity. I think it's a good thing that a 14-year-old girl can pose as a 50-year-old man and see if her ideas will be taken seriously on their own merits.

This seems a lot like what happened in the book Ender's Game, Where Ender's brother and sister go online and masquerade as these enlightened adults.

I say we need caution here, cause the last thing we want when the war with the buggers is over, is to have a 14 year old as Hegemon!

Her, being one of them there independent types, would not allow me to do them for her, she wanted to learn. Come 11:00pm, she finally allows me to help after she gets too tired doing them. I finish within 15 minutes and then try to submit. I got that error saying that the tax info could not be transmitted due to server load. This, of course, freaks her out. I try and tell her not to worry, we will be able to get it through if we keep trying. For 15 minutes I try and send it in, to no avail. Every attempt gets her a little more anxious. I told her to watch the TV and let me take care of it. Only a few minutes later, at 11:35pm, the taxes were successfully transmitted, and I got a little, ahem, thank you.

Ok, I am going to say this purely out of memory, so forgive me if I am wrong. The way I understand it that when you search for an open domain name from sites like godaddy, since they do not have every single domain registered out there on the net done through them, they have to send out requests to other registrars to look for them information about the address. Unfortunately, some of are known as Drop Registrars which take all that query information, and if the site does not exist, will register the name. As long as they see someone is interested in the domain, they will try and grab it. Now, here is what I usually do: I use a whois on the domain I want to buy. If it comes back with information, I know it is take, if not, well, I think I got a winner. I then take the week or so I need to think about it, then buy it through a registrar. I am not sure why it would be much different than doing the query through godaddy, etc, but not once have my whois names ever been taken a week later when I go to buy them. I suggest trying Better Whois

Well, I am not so sure I agree. When Apple announced the transistion to Intel, everyone was predicting that no one would buy the PPC machines, because they would just wait. And, while it is true that many people did wait (I was one of them), they still managed to have above average Christmas sales, plus they sold tons of Macbooks once they were on sale, seems like a win-win to me.

My guess as to why Apple release the information about iTV now is so that they could use it as leverage to try and get some more movie studios on board. Will it work? I dunno, but I have no idea what is going on behind the scenes. But, it would in no way surprise me that a few weeks before Christmas, Apple announces a new studio or two joining, or perharps, even after the Christmas rush. After all, Apple has made it pretty clear that this Christmas they are going after the cheaper players, the ones who will buy Nanos and Shuffles as gifts, and not for themselves. After Christmas, when people are buying the iPods for themselves, they will begin to plunk down the big cash for the fully featured video iPod, or, at least, I know I will be.

What does this do to the Game Rental Market?

Imagine that you have rented a game for a few days from Blockbuster or wherever, you have invested 20 hours of time into the game, and all the sudden, you can't go any further? How would that work? Would they make you pay to continue playing? Would there be special versions of the game that game rental companies would have, with the complete game? Sure, there are services like Gamefly that even stretch that further, because you can essentially keep a game as long as you'd like, and therefore, it will be easier to put 20 hours into a game.

As for people who say that paying $15 up front for the game to see if you like it, I say that is pretty stupid. If you want to see if you like a game, go spend $5 and rent the thing. You may like a game, and therfore need to spend $5 more for the game. But, it only takes you not liking one game ($15) to make up for renting three games for $5 each.

Look, this teired pricing for games is stupid. When I buy a game, I want to own the whole game, not pieces of it. Granted,in the past, I have bought expansion packs for some games, but that was not merely for new levels and maps,it was for new functionality and new gameplay, essentially, I was buying a new game...

I say again, this paying for a piece of a game is stupid. As for game companies wanting to protect themselves against losing money on games that may not be popular, I say stop making bad games...
