Actually, your last comment brought another issue to mind.

I'd be leery of uploading my entire collection of music to a third party.

The next question would be who is behind this company? I would bet that RIAA will pop-up and request a neat inventory of your music collection. Excuse me, that will be $xxx, xxx dollars for each song. They are electronic, so they MUST be pirated. No, I'd rather drop off a Harddrive at RIAA's door, at least they would have to plug it in to take an inventory.

  4. I already have one of these... on Oboe Offers Portable Playlist · · Score: 2, Insightful

I have a great service for my music collection. It works on multiple hardware and software platforms. I can even use it in my car, without being tied to a network connection -- or monthly fee. That's right, I have a CD-RW drive. It's great! With RW discs I can burn new playlists anytime I would like. Mind you, I can't use the service anywhere, but I certainly couldn't use the online service at work either. I think these CDs are really going to take off soon. Yep, they are super fantastic. [/sarcasm]

The idea is all fine and dandy, but I have serious issues with not being able to use my music or change playlist "offline". Even though we are in an always on society, sometimes its nice to be disconnected.

  11. Round 2 on Galileo Sends Its First Signals · · Score: 1

I am sure that this project has many advantages over GPS. While my quick Googling couldn't turn up an article, I believe that I have heard before that the current GPS system is not very redundant. The current satellites up there cannot be replaced, and the loss of a very small number of satellites would cause the entire system to go down. Extensibility and the lifespan of the Galileo project may be one of the more important issues.

If someone has more information on this GPS issue, I wouldnt mind having a refresh on it. Link please?

    4) Parking Garage -- Fer yer John Deer and other machinery (unless the human toll was minimal - labour = food)
    5) Dummies Guide to Farming -- Tony Blair, George W, and all our favourite characters will get a spot in a safe location. To that I say, save the farmers.
    6) Apiary -- Most plants require Pollination.
The above is by no means a complete list.

Thank goodness we have the seeds. Now I don't mean to be extremely critical since in many cases it could be sufficient. However it would be prudent to consider other requirements for growth other then just the seeds.

At this point in time RIAA would complain about how much more music was being pirated. And I for one would be getting out my little violin to play them a sad song -- though I am unable to because reading the sheet music and playing would be converting between two formats (like analogue to digital).

So I am stuck here asking how many of those 20 Million downloads are from the poor suckers who's DRM'd music turned against them? I would really like to know, I have had enough bad experiences with DRM'd music to stop me from ever buying it again.

  22. Re:Don't like it on GIMP 10th Anniversary Splash Contest Winner Announced · · Score: 1

    Review:
The artist repeats motifs of clocks, dogs, GIMPs (with hints of rust) and gradually builds up to one of my favourite splash's called "Dialed In". GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. ix's "Dialed In' is a Digital 'Cornucopia' for me. Just as GIMPs famous previous splash "The GIMP 2.2.9" depicted the wonders of colour and the talent of men, I believe ix is trying to express something in the same tradition. How optimistic that he chooses an old technology to entice us once again to celebrate the history of GIMP.

In Soviet America Analog Holes You!

Unfortunately, it seems that the Americans have been easy targets as of late. Many other nations are struggling with similar issues. I in no way condone piracy, however a default deny policy works much better in networks then it does in media laws. Banning the use of such converters may only prop up the ailing media distribution chains for a short while. These models will need to change in the near future to remain relevant. Hell WILL freeze over before I submit my home movies to Sony to convert to digital for me and charge 1000x the value of the product - for all I know it will be placed on a Blu-Ray Disc that is not readable on my PC.
