Not $1, but definitely not spending more than $29.99. I opt to buy used games than new. I haven't bought a new $59.99 game in about 5 years now. All it takes patience - I'll probalby be enjoying Dragon Age II in 2013, but what is the benefit of playing it now and paying 30 dollars more? With that said, I never hesitate to buy a good game on my iPhone: World of Goo, Plants vs Zombies, Secret of Mana, etc.
Exactly. I have a blue ray player and me and my wife still bought the DVD version of a movie because it was $6 instead of $20. But DVD vs Blu-ray is honestly a pointless debate when I spend 20 times the amount of time and and money to watch Netflix streaming. Why? Its cheap and delivers a lot more meaningful content. If they managed to stream their entire library of movies including new releases, they could have charged as much as cable television and I would have signed up no questions asked.
I bet it will be solid state AND streaming. DVDs caught on because they were convienent. Taking it to the next level, a whole library of digital media in local storage and/or on the cloud for backups/remote access (via iphone, tablet, computer, etc) would take the convienence to the next level. The technology is there, but the convience of it all neatly packaged and cheaply delivered is not. A lot of close calls, but we aren't quite there yet.
Mass Effect - what is it? RPG? FPS? Adventure? It didn't matter - it was awesome. However, taking CoD and turning it into a Mass Effect type genre would be a disaster only because people expect a certain genre from the CoD series. Example - Sim Societies. If you want to create something new, make sure it is good and has an original title. So yes, Modern Warfare shouldn't be taken in a new direction, but naming it XYZ, from the creators of Modern Warfare, might do extremely well if its a good game.
Yeah - GOG is a great site and I'd highly recommend them. I've purchased a bunch as well - XCOM, Masters of Magic, Masters of Orion, and a bunch of others. Not sure how well they are doing with the younger demographic, but I'm sure they are snatching up a lot of business from the older, nostalgic gamer generation.
On the bright side, streaming media corporations can be a valuable ally against ISP bandwidth caps - which they should be if they want a viable business model.
I think Facebook is much more than a website for organizing events with people. I'd like to see the stats, but I'd assume a minority of users actually use that functionality consistenty. The appeal of facebook is that it is a collective hub of the social statuses of all your friends, acquaintences, enemies, rivals, etc and a soapbox for an individual to stand up on every once and a while. Want to know what your old friend from High School is up to - oh he has kids now. Remember that hot cheerleader from college - oh got ugly and is unemployed. Remember that girl that broke your heart? She is single and depressed while you are happily married. Yes, it is that shallow of a service, but at the truth of it, so is mankind and society and I don't see Facebook going anywhere anytime soon.
Isn't there a theory that if there is a power void, that it will be filled by another civilization? You can say whatever you want about America, but when its America's time to take the backseat to another leading world power, the same exact things will be said about them. Its human nature and there is no stopping it.
I forget the exact science behind it, but from what my wife told me from a research she did on obesity, is that HFCS is much worse than refined white sugar. Reason being that its processed on the cellular level completely different than sugar. Let me rephrase - its NOT processed on the cellular level. Its as if the body doesn't recognize it. Instead of being metabolised, it is stored directly as fat.
Judging from how well things worked out with all my exgfs, it is completely reasonable to match me up with people who act exactly like them. "We heard you like superficial cheaters, click here to play Farmville with one in your immediate area."
If I had to guess, I'd say the most simple answer is the correct one: extending a budget because Earth time is inconvienent would not pass through the higher ups, and also because by the time 2012 rolls around, it will be too late (its probably half buried in ice and sand).
Yes, blame the "sucking" technology that put mobile internet in the hands of millions of Americans, but not the business that capitalized on the strategic use of said technology to create an oligopoly.
No, I do not believe that a Senator on the Foreign Relations committee has the same intelligence as the Commander in Chief of the US Armed Forces who has multiple meetings daily with Pentagon staff. Don't get me wrong, I believe all politicians lie to get elected, but in the case of war, there are many things that are not leaked to the general public. Can you honestly say that any individual would stay at war with no justifiable cause - as if he is doing a maniacal laugh in the Oval Office for the suckers who voted for him? Maybe I'm just optimistic, but I'd like to think that he doesn't want to be at war, but has rationalized it to the point of being more beneficial for the American voters who voted for him to stay at war.
And then he got intel fit for a President and reversed his position. He must have good reason - ultimately I trust the man's judgment. I'm sure I would reverse my stance as well if I heard some compelling evidence to do so.
Seems like a strawman technique to me though. "Hey everyone, the movie pirates were liars - they didn't buy this terrible movie after downloading it for free off Bittorent!" If it was a half decent movie, I would most likely download it and buy it if I liked it... but a horror movie titled Tunnel? Not interested in even the free version.
You don't even need to look at different countries as a sample study. I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where movies were 7 USD and you could choose any seat you wanted in the theatre since that few of people went. I moved to an affluent suburb of Washington DC where the cost of living was 30% higher and the average family income was 300% higher and the movies were consistently packed. I'd also throw in a tidbit about quality of the movie theatres too - the ones in DC were nice because they made enough money to maintain it while the ones in Pittsburgh were run down. Its a viscious cycle since nobody wants to pay money to go to a crumby theatre.
You realize that's a good thing from a business perspective, right? Many companies spend millions of dollars trying to coin phrases like that in the general public... for example, Kodak tried to convert Kodak synonymous with picture (Kodak moment) like how Polaroid is not the only company to have instant film. To have the word Facebook synonymous with social networking is a great thing for Facebook and their soon to be investors. Kinda like how the word Google is synonymous with a general search nowadays - its the de facto standard.
Americans alone eat 60.4 pounds of chicken every year. I'd assume there would be plenty of fat as a byproduct to fuel a couple rockets.
Agreed. Very neat, but not up to my robot expectations when I've seen dog, Watson, etc...

In other news, Facebook will be the largest realtor by 2020. Better sign up and purchase a Facebook mortgage or else you might miss the bubble pop.

They are fighting the never ending war against dust by keeping my floors clean with the occasional ambush from a cat.
My house also has more robots than elevators. I'm a bleeding edge innovator like that.

Seriously. Washington DC gets 8 inches of snow and people panic like its the apocalypse.
It is a bit of a stretch, but I bet they thought that waves would also hit India much like they hit Hawaii and California.

Because constitutions are never released to the general public.
