right, but ms-dos, freedos can format disks to 360k, and ms dos 3.x were distributed on 360k that can be read by any high density 5 1/4" drive.

--Other than this, there's Corel's Paintshop and Painter, but Painter is more oriented towards natural media art, not synthetic design or editing photos. Yes, neither of them are free, either. That's because people who have a clue designed them, and people who have a clue in the design industry don't work for free.--
When Corel purchased Ventura Publisher from Xerox it had great 4-color separation output. I've heard and by Ventura's nature it would seem natural (though I cannot confirm) that it can import other Corel products. It would make some sense to look into Corel Ventura as an option.
Over the last few thousand years we've learned that it's best for long term stability to build institutions and not depend on individual people. Today the root servers are the work of good individuals and organizations that encompass them. We really need to move to a more formalized structure that reinforces the long-term continuation of the good system we have today....
Wow, you have that entirely backwards. The last few thousand years have tought us that institutions generally suck at fulfilling the needs of the people. Monarchies, Feudalism, the Inquisition-era Catholic church, and Soviet Russia were all the biggest, most far-reaching institutions of their day.

Not so easily done by large businesses and organizations who are already locked in, but on an individual basis we can refuse to purchase and use products by Tyco, Corning and Motorola in addition to writing and voicing disgust at their actions.
Can somebody provide a list of subsidiaries and popular products made by these companies please? Are their computer and other electronics hardware vendors that build their motherboards/nics/modems/etc. without any Motorola parts?
bR has been an exciting "material" to work with for some time. I remember back in the early '90s when I first read in Mondo 2000 about a report given at the 2nd International Nanotechnology Conference from researchers at a Japanese university. Apparently they were looking at the potential to design an optical computer using bR since it reacted to light in the femtosecond range. I am glad to see that optics and speed are still sexy enough to keep inventors interested.

Stephen McArthur in his Orwell's Grave blog notes that the NYT article written yesterday (that the Justice Department's Office of Professional Responsibility sent a fax on Wednesday stating they could no longer look into the warrantless eavesdropping program of the NSA because the NSA wouldn't give them the security clearance) gives evidence that "for the first time in its history, security clearances have been denied to OPR personnel by the National Security Agency, itself," and that "The Bush administration can take credit for the first-ever refusal of this kind."
I don't understand the problem. If you think they're evil, don't consume their products. Why the hell do people treat CDs like friggen crack? You DON'T NEED IT. Paid, free, physical media or downloaded, just stop. The artists are part of the beast as well, why respect them if they're willing participants as well? Don't even listen to it on the radio.
Well, listen to it on the radio if it's being played on vinyl. Long live vinyl.
Yeah, I remember that now, and the source of great frustration and resulting keyboard abuse. Curse you for reminding me. Twice!

Considering 135000 "pictures," you gotta really feel for the CGI artists ... its a bit more time consuming (but a lot more fun) than pushing a button.
