I know on/. it's good to hate corporations - but I do think it's Ok for a company to be upset when a customer - in this case a newspaper reporter - purposefully lies about how good or bad a product is in a review. Tesla isn't complaining about the guys poor driving - they're complaining b/c he purposely lied in his review about what he did and didn't do to make that product look bad.
I know this is Slashdot but still, RTFA, it has all about Top Gear and everything else you might ask. Maybe Slashdot can ban posting without clicking on a link first?
MS is going to sell the Kinectbox720 as WebTV part 3 and promote HBO Go and Netflix and Skype and IE 11 and maybe some $10 DL Geometry War type games with the ability to play blu-ray movies. They are not selling it as a games machine. The Xbox has had Halo and Gears of War. MS is not a games company, they are a software licensing company - see $50 Gold yearly fee. They won't have to talk about game DRM b/c they won't talk about games.
So instead of asking Siri questions I can type them into Facebook?
This whole "event" was just so Mark Zuckerberg can continue parading himself around as the next Steve Jobs.
Thank goodness. Already pre-purchased 2 tickets for Sunday and I was starting to get a little worried. I already figured the first 20 minutes or so I would hate the look - because I do hate the video look - but after the boring intro 20 minutes I figured I'ld stop caring about the look and start caring about the movie.
Turn off the "always on" setting. About 2 years ago they did an update and everybody's Wii has been running hot since then.
When your Wii is "off" the front top light should be a deep dark red, NOT orange.
Of course since this new one doesn't have any internet overheating and always on won't be a problem.
Unless people live in Ohio or Florida why even bother to vote, much less set up new ways to vote? NJ and CT haven't voted republican since 1988, NY since 1984, anybody think it's going to be any different this year?
So, the 7" screen and 16GB costs $299, and the 9" screen with better specs and 16GB costs $30 LESS at $269? I know smaller is better but that's weird. Though I guess once the iPad mini comes out cheaper than the base $299 iPod Touch 5 it will all make sense.
I am glad they got rid of that hook/notch/hole on the 7", it just looked stupid.
For those of you about to make fun of it for being advertised as 1/2" less wide than the Kindle HD 7", that 1/2" makes a difference for people with small hands, and the Kindle Fire HD looks stupid that wide.
No GPS and no camera means no sale for me, but I like all the options now at the 7" size. The Tab 2 7" still seems the best option wise, but it could really use a screen and CPU upgrade. Hopefully all the competition will force Samsung's hand.
So if the base price for the iPod Touch 4th gen is $199, the iPod Touch 5th gen $299, the iPad 2 $399, and the new iPad $499, what is the iPad mini going to cost? And who is going to pay $299 for an iPod Touch? My 4th gen $199 Touch is great but I'm certainly not upgrading for $299.
Steve Jobs also said you would need sandpaper for your fingers for a 7" iPad screen, and Apple just came out with a 2 1/2" multitouch screen!!!! A two and a half inch multitouch screen. Maybe the iPad mini will have a 1" screen.
I've been thinking "New" iPod Touch for awhile now for the following reasons:
1. Last years iPhone 4s update updated the iPod Touch to both black and white w/ a price drop, nothing new at all. So it's overdue.
2. $199 iPod Touch, $299 iPad Mini, $399 iPad 2, $499 New iPad - that's too many price points for basically the same thing.
3. iPad Mini would eat into iPad sales, New iPod Touch would eat into Kindle Fire and Nexus sales.
4. It keeps the "iPod" name relevant. Who talks about iPods anymore when everybody has smart phones or tablets that do the same thing?
I know these have been mentioned above but I've been waiting for this device for awhile now hence all the forethought I've given it. My iPod Touch needs to be replaced.
The gaming industry doesn't care if YOU sell or trade in your used game. That's First Doctrine and that is correct. Yard sale, eBay, Craig's list, it's yours, do with it what you want. But Gamestop isn't just selling it's used games, it's making money as a middleman and that is what bothers the industry, their entire business model is making tons of money off of selling used games FOR A PROFIT. When you sell your used game, you are almost always selling it for less than you paid for it, but when Gamestop sells a game they are selling it for more than they paid for it. That's the problem. Gamestop is MAKING money, not losing money like you and I do when we sell a used game. The industry feels Gamestop is getting rich off of their hard work. Which they are. So they have a point.
Thanks for that Ouya reference. The first I've heard of it and now I think I need to contribute $99 to get a hold of one.
Q is overpriced. Google TV was way overpriced. Maybe Google thinks it's name holds as much cache as Sony used too?
So the CW is willing to show a 1 night presentation of a movie starring the stars of "How I Met Your Mother" and "Castle" produced and directed by the guy who directed the mega-blockbuster "Avengers" movie on some random Tuesday nigth in Oct? Which is during the baseball playoffs. Wow, really going out on a limb there.
Isn't this how Day of the Triffids started?

Can't the govt. just buy some Xbox360s and PS3s?
I didn't know there was any other kind of Symbian, the headline had me worried there for a moment.
So instead of asking Siri questions I can type them into Facebook? This whole "event" was just so Mark Zuckerberg can continue parading himself around as the next Steve Jobs.
Anybody else think the eye in the photo looks entirely way too human? I don't know why, it just does.

Home-schooling, especially in the mid-western states, is a greater threat to teachers than OLPC.
The west coast gets earthquakes and the east coast gets hurricanes and all middle America gets is drought.
Apple is currently working on a 10" tablet that runs on MacOS with a touch screen overlay.
How long after you use that search engine do the CIA, FBI, DEA, et al come breaking down your door?

First Blood. Rambo was First Blood 2 and it has absolutely nothing to do with First Blood. Good point though.

I think I started reading /. about the time this all started and have found it quite amusing. In a "our legal systems is retarded" way.
Didnt we just cover this very thoroughly yesterday?
