You are right that a lot don't want it but it will never happen. Some people think MS users are here for the Kool-Aid but most aren't. Apple still has this whole cult thing going on so they tend to get away with planned obsolescence and their customers don't object to buying overpriced hardware because its shinier than the current model.
Most windows users get a PC then stick with it until they feel the need to upgrade. Look at how many are still using Windows 7 & XP. Sure there are some who are die hard Microsoft fans but for most, they use it because its convenient, it came with the PC or because of some software that requires it (usually games or business/industrial software). Things are changing and as time go on less and less people will be in this situation which is why they're making the change from the Microsoft Tax to the Microsoft Rent.
Its a tax aimed at corporations that engage in tax avoidance using a Double Irish With A Dutch Sandwich kind of scheme. Governments frequently complain about corporations doing this but never usually do much about these loopholes because their bigger donors also use them. This is just taking a weak shot at looking like they're doing something about it by targetting some of the most visible corporations doing it. The loopholes close in 2020 anyway so this is mostly for image and really little more than pissing in the wind. I'm sure their accountants already have backup schemes planned.

They could try to make better movies but they seem to think spending more polishing a turd is better. Maybe get your head out the movie industry's ass before commenting next time.
Thats why they're doing this. The internet has destroyed the movie industry but its not because of piracy. A few decades ago it took a week or two for most of the public to find out if a movie was bad. These days people can tweet and rate movies on IMDB & Rotten Tomatoes within minutes of leaving the cinema. No amount of bought reviews and media hype will work once enough people know its a turd. They just want more people to see movies before finding out how bad they are.
Hollywood is run by profit-obsessed idiots who would rather pour $200m into a piss-poor fan-service sequel or remake/re-imagine that will make them $210m than spend $20m and take a chance on something new.

I find it funny that Hello Games are saying "Please don't spoil it for yourself" when the video spoils nothing that hasn't already been seen before. I suspect they're more concerned that that most people will find it quite a boring game. It just makes them sound like all the AAA games companies pushing embargo'd games trying to maximize pre-orders and sales in the first few days before word of mouth spreads about how shit their game.
Its obviously not a game for everyone. Fans of instant adrenaline filled action probably wont like it. If you're a fan of Elite, sandbox and survival games then you'll probably enjoy it.
I'd bet self-driving car makers will be willing to spend tens/hundreds of millions trying to prove the liability isn't theirs. I foresee a lot of lobbying from Google etc to change the law regarding compensation or at least making it the car owner's liability. Victim sues the car owner then car owner is forced into arbitration because of the car software's EULA.
Some in the EU do care about privacy but not everyone here does. Google has had more access to Downing Street than any other company in the past 20 years.
For anything coming out of the US Army, think China, Russia, India, Israel, the UK, France. It might be real military espionage, or straight commercial thievery. Both are bad.
