Exactly. As a programmer who tried both, I confirm. DirectX development package is much better and easier. People referencing this one Valve blog page don't know anything on the subject.
Yes, old technology with brute force polygon run faster in OpenGL than DirectX9. Once you begin to use effects and shaders though, DX10/11 beats OpenGL by far.
Every graphic card released since about 10 years are fixed to a DirectX version. Every commercial games released wince about 10 years are fixed to a DirectX version. In which world are you living in?
On the contrary, DirectX10 had the best improvement of all versions. It changed everything. They ditched the fixed pipeline, ditched old "backward-compatibility" that was clobbering the system, connected directly to the Windows hardware layer, support multithreading, etc.
When talking about video games, most people just keep remembering "back in the days" when they were playing. STOP IT. Games nowadays are better than ever, especially the point and click adventure genre. I hate it how they all go unnoticed and only a small subset of people try them.
Not in my book. They were awesome in the Warcraft2/Starcraft1/Diablo1 era and that's about it. Starcraft2 is the only good game they released in over 10 years. WoW is just a way to milk money out of the less intelligent gamer mass (selling textures for mounts with real money really?) and Diablo3 was a pure fail (gameplay/story/drm). It takes then an eternity to do anything and battle.net accounts get hacked frequently and the only excuse they have is "you didn't buy an authenticator so it's your fault". really? Fuck Blizzard.
This is why I never played MMOs. I can't stand a playing turning on itself and going through other players where the actual physical position is useless and only the "locked" target is used. Where attacks are not real physical attacks but only timed progress bars. I'm intrigued if they can manage to create a real game maybe I'll be able to do some multiplayer gaming at last.

You guys just follow a circlejerk and don't know what you are talking about. DirectX development is much easier and well done than OpenGL.
It has been there since yesterday
Talked like a guy who never tried any recent game and think he know what he's talking about.

They did not, they are stronger than ever
Close the GAME SUBSIDIARY of LucasArt, LucasArt is still alive.
Nevermind... it's there
What is the use of the article without a picture of the said meteorite.

Why does Slashdot have an article as soon as Blizzard release something, but barely any for any other games?
Pretty sure a normal Android phone don't resist outer-space temperatures.
You guys don't live in Canada. I would kill for that.
I would prefer a regulation.
What's that? (a Google search don't give much info). If it can prevent me from reaching my data caps, I'm VERY interested.
Can't wait for a ISP trying slow but unlimited cap internet. I'm pretty sure the customers will throw their money at them.
x86 architecture failing behind mobile phone? hahaha
Better install Windows if you want to play any game.
You live 5 years in the past dude
We don't want speed (it's already quite fast), we want higher monthly consummation limits.
Comet hit Mars, change its trajectory, Mars hit Earth.
