Like most people. you simply say that because you are afraid and never try new stuff or you don't have the hardware/time to do it. Gameplay is still better in "hell-bent on 3D and graphical gimmicks" games than cellphone games.
Personally I think they were both underrated and very awesome games. I remember reversing time in timeshift and jumping in a trench with a shotgun killing 30 guys without them realizing I was there. Much better gameplay than typical health regenerating unreal-based third person shooters.

Except that OpenGL is at the maturity level of DirectX 9½... Microsoft are doing this for a reason, they are upgrading the display driver model to optimize it, not to piss off customers.

Microsoft did some nice changes updating to WDDM 1.2 and DXGI 1.2 for more speed and reducing memory footprint. Linux and OpenGL are far behind. Seeing the general opinion here disgust me. We should aim for the optimal quality, not return to the past.
Of course Win8 have a Metro app store that Valve don't like, but it don't prevent to still keep going with a Steam desktop app as before.
Valve did test with an old engine running in DirectX9. OpenGL is not better than DX10-11. Source engine is now too old to count.
Linux is also not a platform that have "everything we need". It just don't.
Valve, don't go crazy. You have a good fanbase, stick with it, don't do stupidities.
Question is, will a 40-inch 3840 x 2160 will be more expensive (more pixel density, harder to manufacture), or cheaper as per current tv-pricing logic?

Just find a better method. Ads are completely useless and I'm amazed that big companies still pay for them. This is not 1960's Coke ads anymore.

I don't play a single game, I play them all. Bring the entire hundreds of titles who get released per year. Don't stop at 2-3 FPS and MMOs.
