I learned 3D programming using OpenGL like 10 years ago. When I switched to DirectX everything was soo simplified I wondered why I never did before. Developers use DirectX because the whole development chain is much better. And with the advantages DirectX10/11 improved over OpenGL, I wonder why articles like that still exist.
The guy who wrote this article is pretty clueless about current state of 3D rendering. DirectX is much more advanced than OpenGL. Brute FPS don't means anything with current 3D technology. It's not just about pushing more polygons anymore.
My WD Caviar Black failed the other day. Clicking noise on boot up and it didn't detect it on the bios. I wrote in a HD repair forum and learned that PCB swap is pretty much impossible on this model. I then tried what I though was impossible to work : physical force. A small hit / shake when it was doing the clicking noise and BAMMM IT BOOTED!!
Why are there no high-quality high-budget immersive First Person Point and Click Adventure? It would be a top game instantaneously. You know, the idea that Myst had back then, but instead of static frames with Battlefield3 graphics, without guns. It would be awesome. Dear Esther was good, but missing the puzzle/adventure part. Only Heavy Rain got near this genre.
I finished pretty much every FPS released since 10 years and loved them all. I have to say, they all pretty much have big differences. I wouldn't call any "generic".
I went to an embedded conference yesterday, nothing could help us. We currently have an old ARM board (200mhz) using 3W of power for the whole thing (with connectors and all). The lowest Intel ATOM cpu use 3W of power for the cpu alone! And now, they are manufacturing "embedded" boards with sata3, pci-e, usb3, and a GPU? Who needs that in the embedded department? 3W quickly escalated to 30-40W.
What's so hard about doing a factory restore? Windows or Linux, it should be done anyway by the manufacturer upon reception not to let personal user files on the computer.

This article is based on Left4Dead 2, which use DirectX9. It's not relevant anymore. It's from years ago. Microsoft improved DirectX A LOT since then.

DirectX10+11 improved performance a lot. This study don't talk about it.
I saw this technique used a few times, but to remove completely one of the pillar of education? AH!

This apply to everyone who put a lot of work in their passion, not just "bad" hackers. I don't think it make much sense.

What was wrong with the previous method of having ALL games available?
I can already plug my Android phone on the tv via an hdmi cable, what is this supposed to be?
Movies don't need to be rendered in real time, what advantage does this offer over 3d modeling packages like Maya?
They should at least gives one GOOD thing the bill would bring? More tax, more censorship and more spying? How can this be any good?

You were cool man, how did you end up like this?
Slahshdot I'm disappointed you just steal Reddit posts and try to create "news" with it. How about trying to have original content instead?

None of your mentioned methods allow me to have high-definition, pub-free, on-demand movies without leaving my home. Torrents does.
That's a product handled by the customer, it should be bigger, not smaller.
What the hell Harper?
Republicans in North Carolina... why do I read that as Koreans in North Korea and dismiss every credibility of everything said afterward?
Just getting better
How long did it takes before they stop trying to listen all telephone calls? Oh wait they still do
