    Honestly I don't know. I also don't know how this affects non-ARM Android devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1, which uses Intel's Atom processor.

    Actually they do. The NDK is used when speed is necessary (eg games).

    Spoken from someone who doesn't live in California. Property tax increases are capped in California. It stays closer to the rate at the time of purchase throughout the years. IE, my boss's mom had a house in Pebble Beach. Her property taxes were about $500/month even though the place was worth several $100k at the time.

    Well, then it'll just be OS/2 all over again. A better DOS than DOS, a better Windows thant Windows, so why bother writing native apps?

    Your history is rather off. The 386 never had an integrated FPU. 386 DX had a 32-bit bus. The 386 SX had a 16-bit bus for cost saving measures. The 486 DX was the one with the integrated FPU, and that was the first to include the FPU by default. The 486 SX had the FPU fused off.

    This is so annoying. The Tesla S is a competitor to the BMW 5 series, Audi 6 series, and the Mercedes-Benz E series. And I know why the automotive press is not saying this: they want page views! This new Cadillac is definitely not a competitor direct competitor to the Tesla S because the buyers are completely different.

    Here are some tests I've done on my devices compiling Povray 3.6 (single threaded) and rendering the benchmark scene. I was rather surprised that my new Nexus 4 (Qualcomm S4) is slower per core than my SGS II (Samsung Exynos 4). Yet the Nexus 4 doesn't feel any slower and is my main phone now due to the larger and higher resolution screen.


    Athlon II x4 (2.8 GHz): 179.82 pps ; 64.22 pps/GHz
    Exynos 5 (1.7 GHz): 77.36 pps ; 45.51 pps/GHz (-mfloat-abi=hard -mcpu=cortex-a9 -mthumb -mthumb-interwork)
    PowerPC 750 (700 MHz): 20.47 pps ; 29.25 pps/GHz

    Exynos 4210 (1.2 GHz): 29.90 pps ; 24.91 pps/GHz (-mfloat-abi=hard)
    Pentium 4m (1.5 GHz): 36.24 pps ; 24.16 pps/GHz
    S4 Pro APQ8064 (1.5 GHz): 31.81 pps ; 21.20 pps/GHz (-mfoat-abi=hard -mcpu=cortex-a15)
    Atom N270 (1.6 GHz): 28.96 pps ; 18.10 pps/GHz

    Too bad AMD was just sitting on their laurels after that. Incidentally, in 2 more years, you can start making your own Pentium Pro compatible processor without violating any patents (assuming you're using the same patents that went into the Pentium Pro).

    Depends on revenue. If revenue is $5 billion, then no. If revenue is $200 billion, then yes that is scraping the bottom of the barrel. BTW, Western Digitals net profits were just under $1 billion. That's about a 6.6% profit margin. It's respectable, but nowhere near, for example, Apple's 26% or Intel's 20%.

    It actually requires more memorization because in Chinese 99% of the characters have one way to pronounce them. In Japanese, all of the kanji have at least two ways to pronounce them. For example the character for 'mountain' in Chinese Mandarin, which looks somewhat like this (if only unicode actually worked on this site...):

    is pronounced 'san'. The same character also means mountain in Japanese but can be pronounced 'san', 'sen', 'zan', or 'yama'.

    Pretty much. Imagine a completely phonetic written English. If I were to write u , am I writing 'threw' or 'through'? As it is now I can instantly see which one the writer means.

    You'll have to compromise on what you find more important: would you rather be more pro-gun, or more pro-choice? I mean, I'd love to have a 1000 HP car that gets at least 50 MPG. I'm always disappointed that I can't get a car that does both.
