I can totally correlate what you are saying about assembly line work. I worked on one making mobile homes. Aside from the time between the whistles (two breaks, one lunch) you were busting ass, yelling at the next section to hurry up and get out of the way while the previous section was doing the same to you. Definitely the hardest work I've ever done.
Memories of that always give me a "quit crying, puss" feeling when I'm about to bitch about a server crashing.
Beta 2 is a good looking operating system with a number of new features, which will be familiar to you if you've played with recent versions of Apple's OS X. And Vista seems to be a competent operating system when it's running. (emphasis mine)
Other than a dire need to use a particular app or game that is not available for OS X, I don't see why anyone would taint an Apple system with this or any other version of Windows.
There's too many privacy concerns, so until I feel secure enough in knowing that my private health information is not being sold or even placed into a national database, there's no way in hell I'm using those shirts.
Hey, don't you want to do your part in the war on terrorism? If you don't have anything to hide, then why are you worried?
I was aiming for funny, but the prevalence of this mentality just makes me sad...
Did we not learn anything from Wesley's experiment with nanotech on STNG? Of course, it would be nice to hang one shirt in an empty closet and come back a week later to a full wardrobe.
> slip a blank ( convienently labeled, "MI-III" ) with everything they ship
Instead of sending a blank, why not just burn 9.4GB of/dev/urandom onto the disk. They'll probably end up spending over $10,000 per package by calling in the MPAA, the RIAA, the NSA, the CIA, and the DHS. After a few dozen false alarms, maybe they'll learn to stop invading customer privacy.
Dear AC,
What a great idea! We would really like to discuss this further. We will get back to you as soon as we hear from your ISP.
Yeah, kind of like how that Pearl Harbor thing changed the American public's mind about getting involved in that "European War". Good thing most of the vessels shipped out a few hours beforehand.
As though elfs and orcs are the sole commercial property of the Tolkein estate.
Actually, if you get a chance to read "Tales Before Tolkien", you will see that a lot of the premises he used were from writings going back to the 1800's. It also seems a lot of them were from Germany.
His style was much more captivating and expansive than pretty much all of those works though, and therefore had a much broader appeal (and therefore exposure).
I for one would mod funny if I had the points, since that is exactly the phrase that popped in my head when I read the summary. I would hate to see all the wonderful memories that I have in association with Blizzard and their products to be tarnished by one of his hack-jobs.
It looks like every disagreement I had with your post has already been said except for one, and it concerns your comment about recommendations. I don't know that I've ever watched one recommended recording, but I love it because it's the quickest, easiest way to see roughly how much room is left on your hard drive.
Once I get down to a couple of screenfuls or less of them, I know I need to clean some of my saved stuff off.
You are absolutely correct. I stand by my conclusion, but should have been more explicit (er, accurate) in my explanation. Although their servers contain many processors each as opposed to 1 or 2 in the desktops, embedded systems do constitute the majority of the PPC processor sales. They are very focused on console systems at this time according to the conversations I had at the last p5 presentation I attended.
Death of PowerPC? Um, what about the IBM RS/6000 servers that accounted for about 99.5% of PowerPC processor usage, even during the peak of Apple PPC sales? I am a big fan of both AIX and OS X and the equipment they run on, but the simple truth is that the loss of Apple as a customer by IBM will be an insignificant dip in PowerPC sales.
I used contacts for quite a while before I just got tired of the hassle. One thing that helped a lot with the "dry eye" during long days at the office was eye drops. Just be sure to use the kind made for contacts! Regular eye drops actually increase irritation when used with contacts.
To tell you the truth, I was hoping they would work on XP and fix the numerous problems. Am I the only one who is thinking this?
Not unless you happen to work in Redmond.
You know what makes me sick about comments like this?
The accuracy

Now that's a blast from the past! Pretty funny.
I totally agree:

Corporations have the same rights as individuals
You must not be in the US. Here, corporations have way more rights than individuals do!

website is still pretty mum. This is one I am waiting for also.
So does HL2, GTA3, Tomb Rider Legend...
Can you say Freudian Slip?

...just as long as it isn't directed by Uwe Boll.

Two films that were pretty accurate:
Takedown (referenced as "Hackers 2" sometimes, althought nothing like it) - shows hacking as mostly social engineering and research
Antitrust - actual Unix commands on a command line!
Both great flicks, but (disclaimer) I also loved Hackers, although certainly not for the realism. Mostly Angelina and the soundtrack.

Because sex outdoors is more uncomfortable than sexy.
Yeah, but unfortunately barnyard animals have no respect for a nice shag carpet.

- Big Brother
Yep, light enough to sling, but heavy enough to do some damage. Very important.
As far as I can tell, actually only Linux is based on *nix.
Anybody know any other OS that is based on or inspired by Unix?
Well, off the top of my head:
AIX
SCO OpenServer
Solaris
BSD
No big deal, because:
Copies of Windows/Office resold = $0 profit for Microsoft
Remember, here in the US, it's all about the corporations.
