People, in general, don't know or care enough about the situation in Iran to warrant any kind of significant response to this.

  2. Dark Dominion on Great Games To Put On a Free PC? · · Score: 1

There's always Cave Story. Dark Dominion is being released soon, and that's supposed to be freeware. (http://www.dopterra.com/ddscreens/ddominion.html)

How is this surprising when all they had to show at E3 was a dude driving down a street?

  4. xp sales on Microsoft Sees Stronger XP Sales in FY08 · · Score: 1

I manage an office supply store, and I have probably sold twice as many copies of XP OSes as I did before Vista came out. I have talked to other stores in the district, and they have noticed the same thing, so at a retail level, I can definitely see this happening.

  5. Not a single bison shall stand on History of MECC and Oregon Trail · · Score: 5, Insightful

Man, I miss shooting the hell out of all those bison. The shooting sections of that game really brought out a kill everything that moves mentality. Half the time I wouldn't even need food, but just wanted to shoot things.

  6. Shred of hope on Fallout 3 Trailer Available Online · · Score: 1

Yes I am one of those angry and unreasonable Fallout fans. Yes, I cried a little at the trailer. I can honestly say that this trailer has given me a shred of hope that Fallout 3 might just turn out alright.

  7. wii weather on Wii Weather Channel Up, Browser Coming · · Score: 3, Informative

I just booted up the Wii to give the weater channel a shot, and while I'm not sure about its everyday usefulness, it is definitely designed well. You can view the weather for today, tomorrow, or get a five day forecast. The thing that I really like is the globe menu. It basically presents you with a globe, which you can spin around with the wiimote, and view the weather anywhere in the world. Again, while I doubt I will ever really use this, its just plain fun to whip the earth around with the wiimote.

  8. Achievements on PS3 Has No Achievements, Replaceable Controllers · · Score: 1

Achievements are just a cleverly disguised way to make people play through mediocre games. While some achievements actually acknowledge videogame prowess, most of them are just awarded by playing through the game. When it comes to Xbox achievements, people need to stop and think if they are playing the game for fun, or just playing to get the achievements.

  9. Gamestop Game Release Dates on Possible Early Release for the Nintendo Wii · · Score: 2, Interesting

I was in Gamestop and EBGames the other day, and happened to look in the pre-order section for Wii games. Several of the games were listed as being released on October 2nd. COuld this be foreshadowing, or just a made up date?

  10. Realism on Guitar Hero 2 Impressions Roundup · · Score: 1

Guitar Hero isnt supposed to be realistic, it's supposed to be fun. If it was uber-realistic, it would probably be alot harder, and wouldnt be nearly as fun. Yeah sure, you could buy a real guitar for around the same amount and learn to play that, but that would take hours and hours of practicing. Heck, why buy Battlefield 2 when I can go enlist in the army and be shipped off Iraq? People play video games to experience something that they normally could not do...not everyone is even musically talented enough to play a guitar without tons of practice. You can stop knocking GH's realism right now, because its not supposed to be realistic, its supposed to be fun.

  13. Re:Gamers are dicks. on Call of Duty 2 Causing Server Unrest · · Score: 1
I totally agree. With COD and COD:UO, there was already the foundation of having anti cheat measures. When you release a product with the number 2 at the end of the name, the general idea is that is at least an upgraded version of whatever came before. COD2 has done the exact opposite and actually took away features.

Having played COD2, I really dont see what all the fuss is about, though. It looks good, but its pretty much COD with better graphics, and it really adds nothing to the gameplay side of things. You can tell just by playing it for a few minutes that you are playing COD. I'll stick to Day of Defeat:Source for my WW2 gaming experiences, as it seems to be the only WW2 franchise that actually changes and upgrades things. Brothers in Arms is guilty of the same thing as COD...they released what was essentiall a map pack, with a new storyline, with Earned in Blood, and didnt bother to really do anything to the actual game itself.

  14. Effectiveness? on Massive Ads In Matrix Online · · Score: 1, Interesting

Does anyone actually have solid evidence that ingame ads like these work? I just really cant grasp the concept of someone running around ingame, seeing a billboard, and thinking, "Oh, I really want that product!"...To me, it seems like something that most players would just ignore. I would like to here the opinion of someone more knowledgeable on the subject.

  15. Underrated games on Industry Folks Talk Underrated Games · · Score: 1
Wow, Im really surprised no one has yet to mention Fallout. Fallout is a post-apocalyptic RPG, with a turn based combat system similar to X-Com or Jagged Alliance. Fallout really pioneered in the use of a persistant world free of boundaries. If you really wanted to, you could run straight to the final area of the game, and assuming you could survive the onslaught of mutants with just your basic equipment, beat the game in about 20 minutes. Or you could, as I did once, painstakingly kill every living thing in the game world, traveling from town to town, wreaking havoc. For those who are tired of an RPG battle system that hasnt changed much in almost 20 years, Fallout beats any typical fantasy-based RPG.

Another severely underrated game that I am surprised has yet to receive mention is Allegiance. Allegiance is probably the only really good game to ever come out of Microsoft (Starlancer and Freelancer werent bad either). It is also one of the most complex games ever conceived. PLayers take the role of a space pilot and wage interstellar wars against teams of other players. However, there is a strong RTS element to the game, as each team has a commander, who is in charge of researching new technologies, and directing the AI controlled constructor and miner ships on where to build new bases and where to mine for resources. There is a wide variety of bases, some unlock certain technologies, others serve as a teleportation hub that ships can immediately jump to. There is also an extensive array of ships available to the players. Fighters and Interceptors are used for ship-to-ship combat. Bombers and Troop Transports can destroy or capture enemy bases. Capital ships such as corvettes or destroyers are present, also, and tend to dominate whatever battlefield they are on.

Allegiance requires any player who hopes to stay alive in any of the non-newbie servers to know all the inner workings of the game, as most players have the exact numercal range in meters of how far certain ships scanners can detect ships, how many bombs it will take to destroy a certain type of base, etc. Its not that the players of this game are all obsessive compulsive, but Allegiance is actually that deep of a game, where knowing every little detail that you can will give you a definite advantage over the enemy.

Fallout can be purchased, usually in a 2-pack with Fallout 2 for $10 at some Wal-Marts, but with Interplay out of business, its kinda hard to snag a copy in retail.

Allegiance is free, and can be downloaded at www.freeallegiance.org.
