Do you have to use the university network, can't you subscribe to a cable/dsl connection? I'm off to school in four days and the school network is expensive and blocks virtually anything other than http and https traffic and the WiFi networks are locked down. I'm planning on subscribing to a family cable tv/internet package for about 90 usd a month for value service (analog) TV and the mid range (3 Meg) internet service. My best friend up there (who happens to be female) has a 5 meg cable connection (high end) and limited service TV (FCC required basic service). I've been out there for an eval and I can't wait to go back (women).
Don't forget about FilePipe P2P. While this is Windows only (sorry it works with IE as a web engine) and contains adware which is easy to remove I recommend it. This program connects to Ares (warez), Fastrack (Kazza), Gnutella, and OpenFT at the same time. Please note that if you have WinXP SP2 or higher you will need to patch TCPIP.SYS to allow more than 10 half-open connections.
Before Modding me as flaimbait, overrated, troll, or any other downmod I will tell you why the adware is a non issue.
1. The adware is only required to be installed, it is not required to remain installed as the EULA is the GPL
2. The program filepipe p2p is an open source program and if you wish you can compile it yourself.
You can't be more right. I don't even think it would hit Slashdot if Apple Backed out of this confrence. Just about anything Microsoft does is big news, especially on Slashdot.
I have a better Idea, what if NASA put the foam on the inside of the tank, or had it layered. If it was inside or put in as wall, insulation, wall; it would then not be able to fly off as it is inside the tank.
Removing the lead is only a small part. Computers usually go through the following process, although this is a large educated guess this should be somewhat accurate.
1. Working systems and parts are donated to charity. 2. Parts that don't work or are too old are usually taken apart to get the precious metals and dangerous stuff out. 3a. If the component is a PC board the copper and lead are recycled or the lead is properly handled. 3b. If the component is an IC it is stripped to get the valuable gold out. 3c. If the component is a battery it is handled accordingly. (I have a nice collection of CR2032s) 3d. If the component is a CRT the tube is recycled accordingly. Very few CRTs are all new. 4. The materials are sold as raw materials and a small (or large) profit is made.
As a rule I require the following things to be reused:
Any part that can be reused in the foreseeable future. For some commercial applications this may even include 386/486 computers for diskless workstations.
As a rule I require the following things to be recycled:
Lead Acid Batteries because it is the LAW! Nickle Cadmium Batteries (I don't practice this as much as I like)
I don't work for a business or any kind, I am a home user and support my mom's computer habits. (Very Stressful especally when our mice operate on the same channel and will not change)
I think it is in the best intrest to let the case go on. The approval rating of the administration is very low and we are talking atomic bomb low. While I voted for Bush, this issue should not be covered up. The Bush administration's approval rating will drop either way, but the effects may not be as damaging if the truth is told instead of covered up.
BTW: I wish Bush was censured, spying on American Citizens is wrong without just cause.

How about installing a version of windows other than XP. I've seen Windows Genuine advantage report pirated copies of Windows as Genuine, but they were not XP.

I actually use the abondonware concept to a lot of software, including operating systems. My rule is: If the software is EOL then you may copy. This rule will work until XP becomes EOL.
It sounds reasonable, but soon you won't be able to say "fuck" on the internet, show indecent material between 6 AM and 10 PM in the USA and so on.
Sounds like something that the Fucking Censorship Committee (FCC) came up with.
I'm sorry, but this is the exact moderation abuse that people are talking about above. This should have been modded -1 troll, offtopic, etc. Not modded insightful. I think slashdot's moderation system is working, I'm not critizizing it. I have bad karma (see sig), and I don't have a reason to bitch.
I'm not saying that the slashdot system is perfect, but I say it is better than I thought it would be.
I have a "Small Town" ISP. They do have a large dial-up coverage area, but they provide DSL in several communities (including) mine at reasonable prices and limits. I have a 512k/128k line, there are no limits for P2P except for the respect copyright and law provisions. I don't use P2P that frequently, because I have all the music I want for now, and BT is slow for non-linux downloads.
The AMD systems I deal with have the thermal controls on the Motherboard, NOT the CPU die. The only thing on the die is the diode (and related components). My system will throttle (slow down, like you didn't know that already) in case of an overheat condition. This is hard coded in the system. Also later PIIIs may be the earliest with thermal protections. This does not mean that the XT is vulnerable (note if you own an XT check to see if the factory tape needs reapplied).
I like the Architect's fluorescent lamps. I like the old type with the two tubes in them and the manual starters. You must keep magnetic disks away from them and forget using a CRT monitor near them. If you have one of your own, these are real nice. You can change the tubes out in them to change colors (don't make them clash too much with your office lights). I have a table here of recommendations about the tube colors.
Color: Similar too: Color Temp (Approx) Avalible in F15T8:
Cool White Standard Office Lights 4100 K Yes
Warm White Halogen 3000 K Yes
Daylight* Daylight?? 6500 K Yes
Chroma50/Sun+ Sunshine (full spectrum) 5000 K Yes
Kitchen/Bath Warm White 3000 K Yes**
SPX 30 Special Warm White 3000 K Yes
SPX 35 Special 3500 K Yes
SPX 41 Special Cool White 4100 K Yes
*Poor Color Rendering Not Recommended
**Same as Warm White, common name in home centers
+Chroma 50 and Sunshine are GE names other names include Colortone 50 These are better than Neodynium (Reveal) incandescent light bulbs as the color rendering is high with a CRI or 90 or better.
1 GB of Flash, a modified knoppix distro (boot of of an image on flash), 256 MB Ram, and you have about 300 MB left for user data and / or swap. With this you can run KDE, OO.o, games, among other things. I do this with a Knoppix CD on a 750 MHz Pentium 3 Laptop, 256 MB of RAM an extra 128 MB RAM should not cost too much and not take too much power. If they really want to take bloat out, they can take out all of the unneeded GUIs, unneeded graphics drivers, some of the games, the admin apps, and so on.
I've noticed that Verizon phones put out this RFI, as my mom had a cell phone holder in her car with two LEDs that were not connected to anything else. When the phone rang (and maybe some other times) the leds would actually flash from the RFI. A similar effect would occur with disconnected neon lights near a radio station.
I like the one with the solar panels, but to save some from having to RTFA I must inform you that it will only power smaller devices. It will power PDAs, and cell phones though.
I have played GTA on and off since I was about 14, I don't go around on kill frenzys, steal cars, or work for the mob. This unnessecary legilation must stop as it is wasting valuable TAX dollars.
While you have a point, it is flawed. There are drive in theaters. Yes, those things are still around, the good old drive in.

Yeah, that's right, no pr0n on TV. They never are on the side of the consumer.
If ATI is going to be stable, Apple needs to open up their drivers. Nvidia also has drivers for download for linux on the standard license.
