Uh, Madeline Albright was born in the Czech republic (and the young Barbara Bush is rather cute IMO.) But yea, I agree, there are some hot british women.
Why is the parent modded higher than this response? The whole point of the article is to point out that the pricing isn't too high compared to other similar mp3 players. The parent obviously didn't read the article. I know, this is slashdot. What should I expect?
I wouldn't hype the pricetag so soon. Three hundred dollars doesn't appear to cover the cost of a hard drive, CPU or RAM. Add those things in and the price is at or above the norm.
I think you forgot the part about the beautiful female cosmonaut crewmate. Ah, Russian women- they can pilot your lander and scrub your thruster ports.
I'm not taking sides in the argument, but if McDs had settled with other comlpainants for more money (as another poster claimed) why did they not settle for $20,000 in this case? Just curious if anyone knows.
US customers are affected, they just don't know it. Many US TV shows (eg. Futurama and Buffy) are released in Europe before they are here. If I understand correctly, Europe is a few seasons ahead in their release schedule.
Not to mention that Blockbuster editions have commercials at the beginning. I goes to show they have some pull in the industry (and a reputation for some business savvy.)
If you can copy the license certificate it might just be easier to copy the $200,000 to buy it. After all, you would be guessing what the license looks like, but $20 bills are easier to find.
Only half right. If end-users stop using google as their primary search engine then viewership declines. Fewer veiwers mean fewer eyes to view ads. Then advertiser revenue drops because it is not optimal to place ads on google. Entry level marketing and management classes teach there is not always a single customer.
Slashdot doesn't have a lot of lawyers or doctors (IANAL, IANAD, etc), but it aparently has a lot of ad-men. These commercial ideas are pretty darn good.
I used to live in Provo. The city owns, or at least did own, the cable company. I lived in California before, and now live in Salt Lake City, and the best cable TV service I ever received was in Provo for $20 a month (weel below the national average at the time). Municiple utility services can be a very good thing. I regret that I live in SLC since Utopia will probably not reach into the city since Qwest and Comcast are already bleeding us here.
And, by the way, why is this not more in the local news? I have to hear about Utah news in the NY Times?
You are exactly right, government run does not mean centralized. We are talking about smaller municipalities building these projects (ie. population 10-60,000.) Citizens are a lot more involved in municiple decisions (or at least able to have more say in municiple decisions) than in federal decisions. If the government does not meet their needs, they change goverment policy. I fgoverment policy is bad, they are more directly responsible.
Dont think the record companies don't want a mix of different, non-compatable media. They would love to have the days of vinyl, 8-track and cassettes back. They would love to have everyone replace their existing media with new. I still have a few vinyl records to replace with CD (some of which are out of print, so don't even let me go there except to say some of what you listen to now you will not be able to listen to in the future) and I do not even want to think about replacing it again.
The problem I find with enhanced CDs is that they either a) have a tiny, unwatchable video, or b) take you to their web site. Enhanced CDs have not worked. Newer compression technology could reduce the size of a video file, but music studios, to my knowledge, have not tried them yet.
My main concern with enhanced CDs is the question "what is enhanced?" DVDs enhance the movie that was in the theaters with trailers, commentary, etc. But most people buy CDs as a primary way of listening to music. The enhancements I look for are ~10 good songs at an reasonable price. Not too many of those around these days.
Yes, but we are talking about a news corporation. They enjoy certain rights (priveleges) that most don't. For instance, if a reporter, in researching a story, interviews someone who confesses to a crime, the reporter is priveleged to not divulge the source of that material.
Along with certain rights come responsibilities. Hiding the truth because it is not currently politically correct is failing at that responsibility. It may not be illegal, but it is unethical.
Very informative post. Also the parent poster needs to keep in mind that some of these sunspots are bigger than Jupiter. That would be one very large meteor to make a spot that big, even if it could survive to hit the surface.
And the "Life With The Lions" track was just a rip off of John Cages 3'33".

Exactly. And the problem with the suit is that Apple doesn't have a monopoly on downloading music for portable players.

Don't expect the Phlox/Cutler relationship to blossom. Kellie Waymire who played Cutler died last year.

And the only people hindered by DRM are legitimate buyers of media. Professional piraters can easily work around DRM.

Is that why my microsoft shares were down $2.30 on Friday? If it comes in 10-11 years cycles maybe I should get out of the market in say...2009.
Ah yes. But politicians see 50 million file sharers as 50 million kids that can't vote.
