I must admit, I am an information junkie and am connected in various ways most of the day.

However, I love going away on holiday where I am totally disconnected from everything. At no point do I feel withdrawal from facebook, /. or the Internet in general.

What I'm trying to say is that if you would remove the students from the normal environment where the Internet is a big part of their life and how they achieve their goals, maybe they wouldn't show such "addiction".

  12. Sad state of affairs on UK Government To Terminate File Sharers' Net Access · · Score: 1

What a sad state of affairs it is when corporations say "jump" and the British government asks "how high".

Real crimes are constantly on the rise but instead on focusing to fight them and making a safer environment for the citizens, the government decides to start creating new laws against fictive crimes.

What a nightmare it will be for the ISPs to start controlling there customers and in the worst case to cut them off (and thus loosing their money).

Overall a big boo from me!

I don't see how this strategy will work for Google in Europe. You see here each country has a handful of operators (2-4) and a part of their revenue is bastardising the mobile phones they offer in as many ways as possible. I am afraid it will be all too easy for the handful of operators operating in a country to choose not to allow Google in and be certain that the other operator(s) will do the same.

  19. How about some snake oil? on The DRM Scorecard · · Score: 1

All DRM has been cracked because of the fundamental weakness that the "secret" message has to be "viewable" by the end user. The end user is given an encrypted message but also the key with which to decrypt it.

I don't believe it is the media companies that keep insisting on new DRM schemes.

Instead I believe technology companies keep presenting the next DRM scheme to the media companies and promising this time it is unbreakable.

They should just use good old fashioned snake oil on the media and save a bundle!
