I don't know why this was modded flamebait, maybe because the AC says "Lunix". The point *is* about Lusers, that is the WHOLE point. I for one know that the only reason my Mac users update their software is so that they can have the latest and greatest, the Linux guys in the office don't update their software. This is actually good because I rely on exploits to gain remote control over some of those machines which are *technically* out of my jurisdiction. The windows users all update their software regularly. Why? Because I built a WSUS server and FORCE them to via group policy. Fully 85% of them hadn't done a single update till I forced this out (note: only recently stepped into this role, so not my fault!). I know most of them don't do it at home.
Linux users, OS X users, hell even me and my FreeBSD boxes are just as bad. It's a PEBKAC and has nothing to do with what OS you run.
You mention having two drinks and driving home up there, and people I talk to get their panties all in a wad
There's a fairly standard joke out here in Australia about you Americans and your drink (actually there is heaps of them) let me relate two:
"If I drank this much in America I would be an alcoholic, in Australia I'm a fucking legend" "What do a fisherman in a boat and American beer have in common? They're both close to water"
So I'm almost completely off topic, but just wanting to point that out.
Oh damn that took me back... Thanks for reminding me of the moment where I looked at my computer and thought 'It too huh... wonder where it got its trip from'
The best way to look at why things show up on TV is to look at the justification for a current affairs show on a new bra for women.
These segments are considered prime for any show for two reasons. The first is that women are genuinely interested in a new bra, potential for them is more comfort or whatever it is a woman wants. The second is directed towards men and is, of course, the female breast. About 98% of straight males will watch one of these segments on the off chance that they will see a decent set of flesh mounds or perhaps a missed-editing nipple.
So why is Paris Hilton to news shows? Because we get to see her fleshy self. Now personally I hate the woman, so this doesn't apply to me, but a lot of people (perhaps people outside of the computer industry?) don't particularly care if she's ugly, or if she's loose enough to fit a pineapple into the sweet spot (thank you South Park!), they just care about the potential for tits.
Ok so its not a very noble reason, but lets face it, not much about the human race is.
Note: Statistic is not backed up, an advertising friend of mine told me this sometime ago This is my $0.02 AU, ignore at will.
And by "only in America", you must have meant "Only in America, England, Canada, Australia, and every other English speaking nation in the world", right?:)
Actually, Australia says it more like soul-jer or sold-e-er.

I for one do. I have about 30 websites that I consider my "Morning" websites all in a folder in my bookmarks (close FireFox overnight for memory reasons!).
I use delicious, but it isn't always as easy as opening a new window, clicking "bookmarks", right clicking the "Morning" folder and selecting "Open All in Tabs".
Also, via a domain, or a flash drive or however, it isn't that hard to roam with your bookmarks (or yes, as you say just use simpy etc.), but then again when I'm somewhere else I know what I want to surf and just go there.
Ah I believe my original post reflected my mood somewhat, but my thanks for stating the answer. As I said, I use a GUI as little as possible, but I recall trying to find a setting in GNOME a few years ago which everyone said was obvious, but nobody could tell me what the setting was. After seeing a couple of posts of "yeah its so hard" I felt the need to ask so that others might actually learn from a community, rather than be insulted by it.
I have a relative who requires icon's that big. They have the most appalling sense of taste and style, but then again I happen to dress mostly in black so who am I to judge. Personally I prefer small icons, of a high quality. Just because I happen to like it doesn't mean the next person does. Same goes for my relative.
They want accountability. They want someone to blame/sue if something goes wrong. IMHO if they went this way the best option would be to hire a couple of really good programmers and get them to do the final QA on the code. Set down guidelines for the anonymous geeks out there and ignore code that breaches this. True this allows for winners of the underhanded C competition to have a crack at sneaking code into the system, but the accountability is there, and is thus no different from hiring a software company. The geeks benefit because at some point the cost of health care would surely drop (is this even definite?) and hey, maybe they'll let us put our names in there or perhaps some sort of cash incentive for accepted code.
Would also be supremely good for the Open Source community in general because of the massive amount of publicity we could gain from this (especially if the code is stronger, better and faster).

That and this sort of thing has been around for years. Outside of of the cinema and within, take the angels in "Reign of Fire", I'm pretty sure I've even seen it in a bond flick. The Guinness Book of Records has something of it. Slow news day at/. HQ?
Would you trust that your super-secret-plans-for-nuclear-destruction-of-xxx-country would be safe on a machine you didn't entirely control? I'm not saying that is what Iran is up to here, though a lot seem to think it is, but I know if I was doing something even remotely dodgy I would prefer complete control over the entire system.
Back On Topic: How are these parts "banned" when AMD merely failed to authorise them? Am I missing some small part of law or treaty here?
Ah Flintstones humour, I wonder how many will get the jokes (without me spoiling it right here). I have to say it has been years since I last saw a free-to-air showing of this particular classic!
That is the most insightful comment I've seen today. It's like the users who call you and ask if the mail server is down as if I wouldn't notice something like the most critical service in the company stopping...
Guilty until proven innocent, shoot first gather facts later, etc. are an extremely dangerous way to conduct law enforcement, though fortunately that can't happen in the United States because the Founding Fathers wrote protections against it in the constitution. Oh wait...
Actually isn't the whole innocent until proven guilty thing pretty rare historically? I suppose that the system is better now (no more Lord's hanging me because they like my wife!) But it seems to me that our entire civilisation was built on something we now shun. Without this something where would we be?
Shadar Logoth and the Dark One's Taint are explicitly defined as two different styles of evil. I reference the wounds the Dragon Reborn received from Ba'alzamon and from the Dagger of SL. These are spoken of in a number of passages including, but not limited to, the statement that they pulse in a different time, and that one of the Ashaman set the wounds to fight each other.
I'm annoyed that he won't try to imitate his style, it's the Jordan style that has me reading these books as much as the story itself. Still, I'm awaiting the 12th.
Parents give you money for computer parts and you get a hooker instead? Unlikely, but maybe one of us would be deluded enough to think the hooker will provide more love than a nice Sun box...

Humour. Was making a joke at the expense of pronunciation and accents.
Of course now that I've slept and I look at it again I see just how obscure the joke was!
I don't respond to Anonymous Cowards. And, no, I am NOT an American. Oh the irony...
And only a tiny, tiny fraction of people running Tor nodes are kind enough to provide me with more than a dial up connection...

Parent is trolling. Some data miner, requires a hell of a lot of javascript.
Chalk one up for "kwark" from an Australian with a Physics Degree.

That's nice. What GUI options are those? It's one thing to throw light amounts of abuse around but if your not going to back them up...
No I can't tell you which, it's either a windows GUI or raw command line on my FreeBSD boxes for me.
Would also be supremely good for the Open Source community in general because of the massive amount of publicity we could gain from this (especially if the code is stronger, better and faster).
