    Vista has a lot of good ideas, but not all were implemented as well as they could have been. Compare Aero to Compiz and you'll see Compiz has better use of resources on the same hardware. Vista is to OS' as EA is to PC gaming. Oh snap!

    Actually there are plenty of close source apps and games for GNU/Linux. Look at the entire Quake/Doom/Unreal Tournament/Savage series, just to name a few games. Plenty of apps too.

    The difference is that WINE has to jump through hoops to get things to work. While a lot of games work REALLY WELL through WINE, it's not really 100%.

    But the difference in effect that if you wrote something for GNU/Linux properly, than it would run a hell of a lot better, and support the environment in a more technically friendly way.

    Tell me, why do they have a native Mac client, when they can very easily emulate Windows in Mac?

    You might want to consider that Blizzard IS AWARE of the WINE community.

    A few years ago a sizeable portion of the Transgaming Cedega's community was banned from WoW simply for running it through wine. This came at the same time of a large ban wave, so Blizz worked with Cedega to get those people who used the service unbanned.

    I was one of those people.

    I am certain that Blizz is considering the GNU/Linux community a lot more now adays than before that incident.

    But really, we've seen these kinds of tactics from Blizz before. Where they say they can't say anything, and later release something awesome. Except this time they gave us a bit of bread to chew on in the mean time. "We use it internally, sorta, can't really say more... [Shifty eyes]".

    I suspect they are seriously considering a Linux release for SC2, but it might not be on time. Or maybe for D3. or maybe the next WoW expansion.

    With the popularity of UI modifications in World of Warcraft, are there any plans to include the ability to modify your UI in future games such as Starcraft 2? I for one would appreciate the ability to customize my UI, and I can see this getting popular fast in competition.

    Are there any plans to release an early version of the SC2 editor, to allow map makers to make UMS or regular maps ahead of the game? I can understand if you want to protect certain content, but I'm just frothing at the mouth to make the next Turret Wars.

    Uhh, the EEE PC's come with Open Office (slightly modified by SUN Micro-systems).

    I know this because I helped my dad purchase one recently. He's quite pleased with it (and yes, it is Linux).

    He hasn't used a computer personally for years, only at work. This really is the first time he's ever used Linux, and the one installed on the EEE PC works just fine.

    I think that education is what is necessary here. If my father can handle it, and not have to struggle, so can yours.

    Considering Blizzard was one of the pioneers for online gaming (Battle.net for diablo 1) I would say that it's fine that they're doing these things. Since the last battle.net game they released was 6ish years ago, they obviously have to play catch-up.

    Ye Olde Battle.net does not suffice.

    There are still countries which are way better off than the USA. I'm not here to debate about other countries having similar situations (IE: The UK with all their cameras). But the USA is becoming less appealing as a citizen every day. Glad I don't call myself a USA Citizen.

    Well, that's fair and all, but where is the line? What are the limits? What about civil liberties, and rights, and all the stuff we as citizens want PROTECTED?

    There's reasonable improvements in Police functionality, and then there's police states. I'm all for Police getting new technology, and improved systems, but I don't like a lot of what the Brits are doing. All the cameras (which they have ADMITTED does not reduce crime at all), this new DNA bit, and others. How about alternate routes? Take the money spent on cameras, the DNA mechanisms, etc, and put more cops on the beat? It's not exactly like its a military rule, having more cops (within reason) is for the better. And if it's not, then let's explore alternatives.
