First off, your employer has a right to track your hours. This is a good thing so long as they don't start nickel, diming and whining when your a minute or two late. Biometrics would also be a good thing when combined with your credit card. Pretty hard to fake a handprint or thumbprint. Biometrics could also prevent us sysadmins from constantly resetting passwords. If we used a thumbprint for the pasword, it would be hard to duplicate and hard for users sharing signons (my biggest beef now).
BTW, Fast food isn't the only place the beef about being a minute or two late. I once worked for Meijer, a family owned chain of gorcery/superstores and they would chew you out whenever your one minute late into or out of work, breaks and lunches. I don't know if tehy stil do this, but when I worked, Meijer had a saying...the run for 1. They wanted to have only 1 percent overhead. That meant you sold a lot of damaged goods (at a SLIGHLTLY reduced price) as long as the packaging wasn't mangled too bad. I thought it was nuts and eventually they did drop it realizing it was impossible to do this. Nickel and diming employees regarding their time is just counterproductive and will result in you loosing a employee who may have just had a bad commute or a bad morning wrestling with the kids and is normally on time and a very good worker. I ain't saying you should not punish repeat offenders or even defining a standard, but if someone is late say once in 3 months, I think that is pretty good! Another thing that could be done is for every minute your late, you stay over that many minutes. Also, use overlapping schedules. If you schedule so tight that you can't afford to have people that are late, that's YOUR problem, not your employee's.
Mod the parent up. I was about to post the same thing. The only thing Harrisburg really has near it, besides the capitol, is Chocolate Town USA otherwise known as Hershey, PA. That town has a interesting story by itself. Milton Hershey, founder of Hershey Foods, was a utopian and he had actually started Hershey, PA as a town for his workers to live in. Not only that, but almost all milk for Hershey's chocolate comes from the Central PA area. That's a very SHORT version and I am sure I missed a few items, but I think it's funny that Hershey, while smaller, is still more well known then Harrisburg.
Penn State starting a music service is a good idea. If it's made free (or paid for by part of your required fees), the students would rather use the LEGAL system rather then Kazaa or some other tools. I ain't saying that they won't use Napster AND Kazaa, but for music, they'll probably use Napster unless they don't have something they want, then they will use Kazaa. Will this save PSU bandwidth? Doubt it.
Another thing about the Fossil PDA Watch, it's vapor. Here's a story from Palm infocenter regarding the delay of the watch. Fossil never released tehse and it looks, to me, like they used the same chassis/desgin in the MSN SPOT watches. So this is probably why it was not done with a Fossil PDA Watch.
I have seen some good hapen with this deal but I hope they don't kill Mindstorms. I personaly wish the following:
Go back to the generic space sets. Thos had some special parts that were molded with thought....they could be used to make airplanes and other items.
Technics.....I learned more about how things worked with these sets then I did anything.
Include generic building plates for building bases and if your goign to do tie ins, take control from the tie in company and make the entire kit from generic pieces with a few specials (that are molded with thought). Example, when doign a F-22 Kit, you'd need a cockpit piece. Make sure you include some lego welts (or whatever you call it) on the piece so you could attach it to other items.
Really! I agree. Photoshop is priced for raping it's users. I realize they have a ton of money tied up in it's development, but that is not an excuse for charging as much as some PC's COST! Video is even worse! Premiere is priced really high as well. GIMP rocks. I can do about 90 percent of what can be done in Photoshop with the GIMP. CMYK is just an added and wanted feature.
I DISAGREE! I work on pSeries machiens and the folks down in Austin (YES AUSTIN, TX!) are very understandable and knowledgable. I don't have to explain things to them. I usually feed them the correct info and a snap report and they usually determine in quick order what I need. IBM's support (at least the pSeries machines and mainframe's) is top notch. Xerox support on the other hand just makes me scream....and they are all in the US!:)
I agree. Your right. They already do. Why make a law against this? Someone is going to make a tape and it does not matter what any law says. If your obvious in a movie theater, your gone. If your doing it in a way noone could tell, odds are, the tape will suck.
The law costs the government no money. The government isn't paying for anything. I doubt any local police department will devote any man power to enforce the law either. This is just something to make it look like our state is doing something (when they really aren't).
And what your talking about is NOT MSN messenger. It's Windows Messenger. Some point, around the time XP was developed and released, some idiot at Microsoft thought it might be a good idea to create Windows Messenger. No I ain't talking about the Windoes Messaging service, but Windows Messenger. Windows Messenger was supposed to be pushed a bit to the corporate side of things. Your supposed to be able to run your own IM server in your company. In any case, there are a ton of websites that tell you how to get rid of Windows Messenger. MSN messenger on the other hand must be installed. It IS different then Windows Messenger even though they both work on the MSN messenger service.
Oh and just to give you an idea of how stupid the article was, you actually have to click on a URL that this messege sends to you and unless you have been living under a rock, you can pretty much eliminate this problem by ignoring IM's from anyone that is not on your list. If most of your list does this, then there's no chance of infection. As most IM users have already discovered, there are enough SPAM IM's that are not harmful out there that you should probably set this up from the beginning. Hence the reason why there's only a handful of infections. This is NOT a hole in MSN Messenger....it's just users being the typical idiots that they are and that's only that handful of idiots that have been infected. Most MSN Messenger users would be unaffected by this.
And you did not see me say that the should keep it off the market did you? I mean even if I think it's morally reprehensible to even want to play this game, I will stand and defend your right to play it til I die. That's where I differ with most people who hate this game. I may hate it, but I see it as a necessary evil of living in a free society.
I do this because at some point, someone could try and take MY right away to be a Christian because they don't like what I do or stand for. This has already been happening even in the supposed free society we live in. I mean my children can't even pray in school. When I went to school just a short 10-13 years ago, they had benedictions that were somewhat religious that were led by teachers, administrators or other authority figures. Now only students can lead anything and most schools won't allow the students to run every event the school has. My sone goes to a Early Childhood Education School that is paid for by the county and they did not have Santa come visit for Christmas...they had Frosty come! Besides the link of Santa to the Catholic St. Nick, does Santa teach kid bible verses? Does he preach? Also, kids are being told that they are not allowed to wear symbols of their religion (be it a cross, or a star of david for the jews). The third article of the bill of rights is the one that covers all of this...even the separation between church and state which DOES NOT mean that state institutions can't have/perform religious ceremonies....all the item says that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion....how is a non descript prayer to god (something all religions believe in except atheists..and most atheists don't care) at a school function making no mentions of bible verses is congress making a law establishing religion?? It isn't. Organizations like the ACLU will stand up and say that prayer in school isn't right, but then do an about face when a muslim isn't provided with a area he can pray to mecca when he's required to. How is that fair? Especially when the muslim is in the minority and the Christian is a majority??
In any case, go ahead and play this sinful game....I will stand and defend your right to play it even though I hate it. I do this so that they won't resrict any speech even my own speech regarding god. It isn't right when either of these are restricted.
Oh and there IS a strict moral compass in the United States. Most REAL PARENTS who I know do not appreciate the themes of this game(not JUST the ones I go to church with either). Why else would you get a certain group of them trying to ban it? Contrary to your belief, a majority of the country believes that drug dealing and commiting sin is bad. Again I say go for it and banning it is bad (even though I hate the game). I stand up and defend your right to be a nut job and play any kind of game you want in the privacy of your own home!:) Now go have fun!
Wait.....where did I say ALL art? I said most of the time, video games have you controlling a hero. NOT ALL OF THE TIME. I was stating the somewhat constant with video games that you usually are a hero or a GOOD guy. Did not say that ALL art or all video games should depict a hero. RTFP(Read The Frickin Post)!
First off, I have a problem with this game. It may be beautifully rendered in gory blood, guts and all, and it may have some of the best voice acting in a video game ever, that does not change the fact that the main character (which is usually a hero and should be a hero) is a drug dealer and he has to murder, cheat, steal kill cops or whatever just to achieve the objective of the game is horrible. This is not a heroic action. Some might say what is the difference in this and in a game such as America's Army or other games that can be considered violent and I say a whole lot of difference. The character of the game is immoral in the first place. In the second place, he commits many many sins to achieve the goal of the game. There's a bit of difference in this game then there is in Doom, Quake, or whatever. In Doom or Quake, your typically killing demons and other monsters. Not innocents or even opposite gang members. Some may say there's no difference but there is a distinct one.
Unforunately, as despicable a game this is, I have to agree with some of the fans taht are defending it. The Government shoud only try to keep the extremely immoral stuff off the market. For example, if there was a game that every person, even a Slashdotting gamer says is so horrific it makes them vomit, well, that should not be on the market. It would take a heck of a game to produce the effect strong enough that the SC should ban. The game in question, while violent, it's really no more violent then other games on the market. As immoral as the game is, it doesn't matter. The government shouldn't ban it. This is a consequence of freedom of speech. The SAD thing is that there is a section of society that thinks a game like this is great. THAT'S what' wrong about the game. People that are raising their kids by PS2, XBOX and Gamecube are the real problem. I have chosen not to buy a game such as this because I portend to be a moral person. I ain't a saint, but I do try to do what is right. But because I still want to be able to preach the gospel, praise Jesus in public and other activities befitting a Christian I have to let others say what they want to as well. Banning any speech is a bad thing. It does not let the person in question make their own decisions. This does not stop me from speaking against the game(as you can't stifle any speech...even if it's against what you believe in). I would stop short of asking kindly old Uncle Sam doing something about it and would go the direction of trying to convince others that they should not be messing with this game. Some may say this is brain washing but I disagree. If I convince enough people that this game is immoral and rubbish and not a good game to buy, then it won't be profitable for companies to make a game like this so they will make other games that will sell. IE, the market decides. There are enough people in this country that think this way to have the desired affect, but again, they are letting the game magazines and others guide them in their game purchase. Also, parents are just buying the game for thier kids instead of checking it out themselves first. If the PARENTS did their job (scoped out the M rating and or other items concerning the game), the GTA games would not have done as well as they did. If the parents did the job, the game would not be where it is today. So, in closing, the game is horribly immoral, but because I want the right to say what I want, I have to let them say what they want.

Actually, 2002 was when the new standard went into effect. COBOL Standards has the link to the official ISO standards regarding COBOL. Also, COBOL is not dead. Far from it. COBOL can even be used to develop for the web as well. We are using Miami Univeristy's (of Ohio) DARwin product and it's entirely ported to run with Micro Focus COBOL Libraries/compilers and on multiple platforms including UNIX. DARwin, or Degree Audit, allows students to play a what if game comparing what they have taken with the program they initially intended and other programs. This allows students to see what else they have to take in order to get their degree if they want to switch majors. I have not seen software like it anywhere else. Most of the schools in Ohio use it. COBOL still has lots of use in it and it's just morphed in to doing different jobs.
The same wil go for Xfree. So what? The core has disbanded....long live the new open core.
This may be cyclical like I think Global Warming is. Maybe we are in the mid stage where the Earth is on time and later on we will have to subtract seconds? I don't know but I would not automatically assume it is us humans taht are causing it.
Sort of. I guess. Except these Chickens are bread for food. They were always going to be food. Most of the birds killed by these turbines are not going to be food unless your a redneck hunter who does not know any better.
With regeards to PETA and others trying to turn us omnivores into herbivores, well, sorry. Chicken tastes good with a side of mashed taters and some green beans or collard greens!:D
Actually I wish that not only would they read the ID3, but take into account the file structure as well. If your restore from a Nomad (at least my Zen), everything is just dumped into one directory vs a folder per album and a folder with all of a artists albums per artist.
Well, I hear plenty of music on FM that is not butchered much and those are artists that see that it ain't necessary to swear! If you like that type of music, then XM is for you I guess!:)
Anyway, I am considering getting XM. I'd love to listen to the same radio station for my entire road trip to Tennessee when I make that trip. XM is awesome for road trips.
Mine too now that I fixed it. When I moved in to my new house (well, it was new then), they had the temp on the water heater set way too low. I turned it up and my shower still would not get hot enough. It appears on new shower fixtures (ones that combine hot and cold anyway), they have a anti scald feature set so damn low it would still be cold (they did this to pass inspection). Water would come out of the spigot in the sink scalding hot but you could not even raise a cloud of steam in the shower. Called the plumber out and said fix the damn thing and they did. My point is I should not have had to do this and the builders video did not show you this "feature" of the fixture.
Now what I wish they would do instead of inventing dubious plumbing safety features is invent a new interface for toilets to the floor. I am tired of fricken wax rings failing. It seems, to me, that there would be a better way now but no....this seems to be the same as it has been for 30 to 50 years(ok except the low flows now).
Geesh your worried about something that may be going on for about 1-3 months a year lowering property values? Anyway, I think it would not affect the property values all that much.
Yeah thats what I thought. Christmas lights are relatively low wattage. Especially the new ones. You can't find higher wattage C-9's in anything except candleabras. Even these are hard to find this year. My fav that I saw this year and bought were the round ones that give off a soft light that's cool to the touch.
You said: "Wrong, I owned an H3870, it had an internal battery, same as the H39xx. Current ipaqs do have replacable batteries however ipaqs are larger than Palms which don't...."
WRONG. The 1900 series is smaller then about every palm out there. The only dimension that it may not be is the length. Only reason that is is because of the slider thing.
You also said:"Highly improbable. I don't know where you get this information from that makes you "sure". I'm confident many companies would pay a very high price for any information of this wonderous new physics defeating technology of yours."
First off, battery technology has come a long way. It's being tweaked all of the time and while some people think nothing has happened here for a while, they could not be more wrong. Just 5 years ago, NiMH was the most prevalent. Now Lithium Ion is gaining ground rapidly and if it isn't in the lead, it's definitely a very close second in the most rechargeable batteries installed. Who is to say that Apple doesn't have this up their sleeve? I know I would! Noone ever thought of iPods until they were brought out and initially I saw alot of shrugging except from Mac zealots. I still see some of that with PC folks. While the iPod is very good, it's compettitors, while definitely "bigger" they are not so much bigger to say that they are inconvenient. Check out the Zen NX. They are also cheaper. Sometimes more then half as cheap for something that is the same size storage wise. Oh sure...it may not be as elegant as the iPod interface, but it works. Also, Creative and others seem to be copying the iTunes style of interface as well. It may not look the same, but the same sort options are there. Windows Media Player Winter Fun Pack even had auto playlists that look for all Christmas tuens (or anything with Christmas in the title). Right now, the iPod may be king thanks to some of the extras like the Calendar synching and the "games", but in the end, it's jsuta music player. Windows users don't stand to get ripped off. Oh and I am also a ITMS subscriber and do think it superior to other options, but my main beef? IT DOES NOT WORK WITH ANY PLAYER BUT AN iPOD! I know the reasoning behind it, but I don't have to be happy about it or agree with it.
This is hardly anything to be tinfoil hat wearing about. My phone is a year old and I was able to figure out within about 10 minutes how to shut the damn thing off (except when making a 911 call...it automatically turns on then). So this is a non issue....as long as Motorola and others allow the user to shut it off if they so wish.

:D
With regeards to PETA and others trying to turn us omnivores into herbivores, well, sorry. Chicken tastes good with a side of mashed taters and some green beans or collard greens!
If you like that type of music, then XM is for you I guess! :)
Anyway, I am considering getting XM. I'd love to listen to the same radio station for my entire road trip to Tennessee when I make that trip. XM is awesome for road trips.
Yup! I agree with ya there! STOP TRYING TO PROTECT ME FROM MYSELF! Stupid lameness filter....
Hmmm...wonder if anyone made it work with a IM program or IRC? Kind of makes cybersex a bit more satisfying....although weirder.
