I went back and forth from NY to DC on business twice a few weeks ago, by plane each way. I wore the same kind of clothes both times (shorts and a t-shirt) and had my targus backpack which I use to carry my laptop among a variety of other electronics and stuff that I don't want to check in (this was after the london scare, so security was higher and I had no liquids or gels.) All four times I was in about the same state of appearance, I shaved that morning and was generally neat. One out of the four times I was randomly selected for extra searching of my bag, the other three I was allowed to walk onto the plane.
If there is something fishy with the random matching, it seems that it's not the same every time, they're getting what seems to be random searches in there too. It may be that the woman from the summary just has bad luck.
It's mind boggling to me how you can be modded insightful by saing "This OS is slow for me", without even knowing what the heck the user is trying to do or what hardware the system uses.
It's not mind boggling, it's slashdot!
Some people don't have their pc running near enough their nice tv to be able to use it... why settle for a 19" lcd when you can play on a 60" Plasma and have link be life sized? Also others may not own any wired xbox 360 controllers, but use the wireless ones instead.
Finally, people are doing stuff "because they can" all the time... this is just more of that.
Yeah, especially since if all the slashdot readers called 911 on their POTS lines, the amount of time spent on hold would go up dramatically by sheer volume?
I find his answer to question 8 (Windows updates to unregistered machines?) frustrating.
He basically comes to the conclusion that "If they didn't buy it, they shouldn't get updates." This is fine in a happy play world, but people with illegal copies are effectively attacking everyone else by becoming infected with worms and other malware. Their policy to only offer updates to registered copies doesn't really help them sell more copies... it just hurts everyone else even linux users, because the worm/virus traffic eats up everyone's bandwidth to some extent, at the least.
The differences between "memory": RAM vs HDD vs CD/DVD, etc.
An explaination of data storage sizes and how they relate to one another (bits, bytes, kilobytes, megabytes, etc.)
Realizing the correct abbreviation to use, like the difference between MBps and Mbps.
Bandwidth vs clock speed, and why a faster computer might not be faster on the internet if you're still using a dial-up connection. Also vice versa how upgrading to a cable modem will not make a non networked app run any faster.
Ways to tell if you've been infected with spyware or other malware, and how to take steps to prevent/remove that threat.
Show that a firewall won't prevent all virus infections.
Discuss the importance of setting non-trivial account passwords, and changing the default admin passwords of all networked equipment.
Discuss basic wireless network security (WEP/WPA and MAC address filtering.)
Those are the things I'd include off the top of my head.
That's assuming the plural form of "Math" is "Maths", and not just more "Math."
Having been born and raised in the US, seeing "Maths" seems odd to me, it's like seeing someone write about "the Internets."
I pretty much only remember one thing from the last defensive driving class I took (6 months ago) and it's that most of the stuff they taught 30 years ago was B.S. anyway... for example, they were teaching people to drink and drive (1 drink per hour was okay.)
Although I still agree with you, tailgating is extremely dangerous and illegal.
Parent should be modded up for being right.
Or better yet, order one for yourself online for $10 - $20... who needs friends (or going outside, for that matter?)
There's a monthly fee for HDMI? That's funny because I'm not paying it and my HDMI dvd player still works.

...of applying the pepper oil to the prostate. No pain no gain right?
I remember it being real easy to one-shot kill people with the double shotgun, too. So restricting it to not include that might be necessary too.
How about a mouse that tastes like chicken?
Maybe he's using interface mods. CTraidassist is pretty nice.
I love how it's "universal" but right now only the PSP plays them. universal, indeed.
That sounds like a spin on the soviet russia joke...
You're right, sorry. I should have thought about it harder before posting... or drank more coffee this morning.

I think it makes sense, as most of the games were probably in development before the 360 launch, and are just coming to fruition now.
Yes, there is a name for it... but I forgot what it was. (I have a similar problem, but I tend to remember after a few times meeting them.)

They could go a step more and call their products Smacs.
Nope, "Sue".
