I can't remember it myself, but in the good ol' days movies were a seen as disreputable form of entertainment only indulged in by youngsters with nothing better to do.
If video games see a similar development, maybe in 50 years or so they will be seen as wholesome entertainment for the whole family?

I'm guessing this means they are using the list as a calling list, assuming us who aren't wasting our money on telemarketing scams must have some left over for their good cause. I lived in Germany for years. So I know many autobahns actually have a speed limit and that Germans do not usually drive particularly fast. It was not unusual to see people coasting along at about 60 mph even in pretty hot cars. Driving just wasn't a race there. I guess that could be the result of better driver's education and stricter standards for getting a license? Which generally also results in better drivers. Believe it or not. I don't think the Germans have found a cure-all for traffic backups though, but I know little about that. I avoided rush hour traffic by taking the U-Bahn.

  12. Re:Not suprised on Mathematicians Solve the Mystery of Traffic Jams · · Score: 1

No speed limit has been tried. I remember it from Montana in the 90's, where it did an excellent job of eliminating both the unfit and those who happened to be near them on the road when something went wrong (or right, from a Darwinian point of view).

And believe it or not, I've never seen more traffic backups on the freeways there. Montana has hardly any population of its own, so maybe it was people coming from other states to drive fast and stupid on Montana freeways.
Or maybe it was that the lack of speed limits made people more aggressive and more set on staying five feet behind somebody else's tail lights. I don't know, but it was not a success and it did not solve any problems.
But it was great for the undertakers.

    More or less, of course.
But if it really was like that, wouldn't politicians want more people to get a college education so they could get better paid jobs and pay more taxes so the politicians have more to pay off their corporate owners? Or, maybe the truth is that the corporate owners want people to remain uneducated so they believe that downloading really is killing the media industry and in addition they want cheap and ignorant workers who will accept low pay so they can make larger profits with smaller handouts from the politicians?

You can extract songs from an iPod very easily if you have the right software. There are many programs that are specifically made to do that, and also a few that let you handle the iPod like a disk so you can see and handle the files on it just like ordinary files, including copying them to another disk. Can't think of the names of all of them, but they are usually called things like iBackup or iDisk.
