The distribution of these fees will be such that independent artists get a token sum, while the RIAA gets money for nothing.
I disagree with this. Most independent artists aren't affiliated with RIAA-represented labels. That's a lot of what makes them "independent". If the RIAA is doing the collecting, why would they pay out to labels that don't want to work with them?
Yeah it still has some of the UI stupidities of Vista (although they've fixed quite a few too) but at least it's not actively preventing you from getting any work done any more..
Yes, it does still have some of the UI stupidities of Vista (thankfully you can turn some of them off), but it also introduces some really nice usability changes. The Win-arrow key shortcuts, for example, are great (win-up to maximize, win-down to minimize, win-left to dock to left half of screen, win-right to dock to right half of screen). I've been finding myself using those a whole lot on my netbook. I actually find that I miss them when I sit down at my desktop machine. Sure, it's little, but it's a really handy feature. And there are quite a few things like that that they finally got right in Win7.
Windows 7 uses the same driver model as Vista. So as long as companies have released Vista drivers (which many finally have over the past few years), then the hardware will work fine with Windows 7.
It wouldn't surprise me to find out that something like "address book" might not even have a direct translation in some of these other tongues. Thankfully, this sort of crowd-sourcing should yield the closest usable match, which, of course, is the entire point. (Pat, I'd like to buy a 'comma'.)
Sorry, after three weeks of Change I think I might have been better off with moose gurl.
Yup, sounds like a Republican. He isn't even aware that Obama's only been in charge for just over a week. I always get the feeling that Republicans were the ones who failed their 7th grade Civics classes.
Scotland's First Minister came and gave a speech at National Geographic Headquarters a few months ago in which he announced a $15M prize for whomever could come up with a way to harness the sea's energy around Scotland. I'm wondering if this will be one of the entries. Either way, Scotland seems to be located in a prime spot to be leading the charge with this type of renewable energy.
That's interesting, because the ending I got has some pretty big differences from the 5 other endings I watched on YouTube. If there are 2 or 3 options for each of those 6 or 7 segments (which it certainly appears there are), then it easily gets up to over a thousand endings.
However, fallout3 is just a great big voice over, then credits screen, then back to the main menu.
Actually, it's a string of 6 or 7 short voiceovers. That's how they can have a thousand different endings (or whatever it is). I've read through a bunch of forums and comments about the ending, and for some reason a lot of people don't seem to get that. I personally thought it was fairly poorly done since each little segment has a musical swell. Doing that once or twice is fine, but after 4 or 5 it gets really old and makes it feel very unnatural. Too many swells negates the effect, IMHO.
I'll wait for them to release all 3 DLC modules on a single disc that I can pick up for 10-20 bucks. I realize it means I won't get to play them for another year, but that also means that the numerous bugs and problems people have been encountering should be ironed out. I thoroughly enjoyed the original game, and I still fire it up every few days to run around and discover new things, but taking a break from it for a while isn't such a bad thing...
This is pretty big. Basically the other major publishing houses will need to come up with similar agreements. Otherwise a good chunk of papers produced by research done in the UC system will be submitted to Springer journals first.
This American Life had a great piece on a cloned show bull a while ago. You can listen to the episode here (click on the orange 'Full Episode' link -- it's the second segment, so you'll need to skip ahead), or you can watch/rent/torrent/buy Episode 1 of the Showtime version of the show. Interesting stuff....
Verizon passed the notice/letter on to you rather than giving your information to the RIAA/MPAA so that you could be named in a lawsuit. What happened to you is far more preferable than the other option. But if you don't want to believe that, that's up to you.
Perhaps I should stop trying to be subtle in my posts and carry a sledgehammer... (yea, I'm new here)
It's not a bad idea. Subtlety doesn't go over well with some geeks (that whole denser-than-rocks thing and all). One need only look at the number of posts that simply say "wooosh" to back this up.
No idea if this still holds true, but Verizon was the company that refused to hand over their logs to the RIAA all those years ago. They certainly earned my respect at the time, and they still have my business.
"The idea that you can whack your head hundreds of times in your life and knock yourself out and get up and be fine is gone," said [retired wrestler] Nowinski. "We know we can't do that anymore. This causes long-term damage."
Wow! This is absolutely shocking news! I never would've guessed that repeated damage to a single organ/body part would have lasting effects....
The question about filesystems has come up a few times over on the Dell Mini forums. Basically the question is which is better to use on machines with SSDs? If you're not dealing with >4GB files, several people have suggested that you're better off formatting the drive as FAT32. I'll need to take a better look at this article when I get a chance, but it seems to be suggesting the same thing.

Yay! I'm finally out of beta!
It'll be interesting to compare how the various Media Entities spin (or even cover?) this.
Yes. What will happen when organizations like the New York Times or the Associated Press hear about what these guys are trying to do?
There's an instructable for making magnetic Monopoly right here. As for finding the physics erotica, your on your own--I'm at work right now...

I'm assuming that whoever made the NoDRM/NoCD crack/patch before has already taken care of this problem. Anybody know?

(though I am adamantly opposed to a sequel of Johnny Mnemonic)
I absolutely agree. You shouldn't mess with perfection.
The sad thing is that the guy was probably enough of a meathead that he would've done that anyways even if he never had the concussions.

No, I think he meant "Patton". Having Patton on me is the last thing I'd want.

If I'm not mistaken, 'qualifier' would be the more general term, with 'unit' being the type of qualifier needed in this specific case.
