You're assuming that this "student of the future" will be familiar with modern-day computer troubleshooting techniques to piece this 50+ year old machine together from 3 separate machines. If you'd never seen or worked with one of today's computers would you know what the BIOS beep errors meant? Or how to tell if it was the hard disk that wasn't spinning up? Or better yet, if it was spinning up but not booting due to some other problem? We may as well hand you a stack of punch cards and stick you in a room with an ENIAC and say "Let us know when you have it running."
Exactly. Get over it people. Set your browser to not allow cookies from YouTube. BFD.
Exactly. If you're really concerned about it, set your browser to 1) not accept third-party cookies and 2) delete cookies on exit. You can set Firefox (and probably Opera) to keep certain cookies if you want to remain logged into certain sites all the time.
No idea if it was 1.2M, 1.4M, or 2M (all figures that I've seen reported at various places), but it was easily the largest crowd I have ever seen in one place before. And the fact that there wasn't a single arrest made during all of it just shows how great humanity can be if given the right opportunity.
That would make sense. After speaking with a few other people who were also down there (the joy of living 2 miles away from the Mall), their phone calls were also completely spotty all morning. Some got through fine. Others went straight to the recipient's voicemail. Some just sat there on the "calling" window with no connection. It seems that it didn't really matter which combination of carriers were involved.
I was down on the Mall yesterday and tried to make a few calls to someone who got separated from our group. Nothing was going through. I then decided to send a text message to her. She got it close to an hour later (after we'd already met up again). Apparently it was completely hit or miss as to whether your call or text got through.
OMG do people shop at Office Depot? I have never seen another customer in that place while I'm there... I always wonder how they make money.
I go into the one down the street from me all the time. Of course, the only "real" things I've ever bought were clearance items. But I've gotten some very nice deals on those. 17" LG LCD for $90 when 17"s were generally going for about $200 (this was about 4-5 years ago), Canon camera (forget the model #) for $125 when it was $220 everywhere else, a pretty good deal on the 22" Acer monitor that replaced the LG, etc. Hell, last weekend I picked up a few 10 packs of decent DL DVD media for $3.75 each. They occasionally have OK deals on regular items, but their clearance stuff can't be beat.
Seriously! If they already have a projector or something for a large group, all they need is a VCR (or one of those new-fangled ATSC receivers I keep hearing about) to catch one of the OTA signals. Yet again, how did this manage to make Ask Slashdot?
It's your opinion that you are not a lawyer?!? : p
Otherwise, agreed with your post. Unless she gave them some way for them to try to collect from her (other than by sending emails), she should be in the clear. However, I'd check out the site she actually downloaded from to see what their claims supposedly are.
My typical day started with a visit to the clown for a #2 with a large coke.
I presume this has some other meaning than my immediate interpretation:)
Well, let's break this down. It fits my morning perfectly if the following assumptions are true:
"clown" = "can"
"#2" = "#2"
"with a large coke" = "and vacating the previous night's beverage"
Think about how joyous a place America will suddenly be once we have TAP SHOES FOR EVERYONE!!!
...says he's spent the past 15 working as a professional in the security scene...
Oh my God! Only the past 15?!? I've already spent the past 120 perusing slashdot.
Hint: qualifiers matter.
No, it doesn't make sense. But that won't necessarily stop the Army from trying to punish him for being in possession of "government information."
I bet you don't have a clock built into your sliced bread either.
I'm still waiting for someone to show me the true benefits of this so-called "sliced bread".

Aw "terabyte" was my original handle...and I thought it was clever because it sounded like "terror."
Well, if you wanna go for that retro feel you can always use killabyte.

Q: What did the police man say to the CoW?
Mu?

Better yet, just ignore all the tags. They're pretty much useless.
Is that old blowhard at it again? Why do you keep posting stuff about this bozo?

Wow! There really are more facets to Keanu than I imagined.
the signature? what font is that in?
That would appear to be Bitstream's English 111 Vivace.
Clearly. Through empirical evidence we can see that the cutoff is not half your UID, but an order of magnitude less.
_..-* The More You Know
Wait a second. Are we saying that Taco is omniscient?!? *shudder*
What kind of software patches increase screen resolution?
How dare you question him!?! Can't you see that his UID is less than half yours? He clearly knows more about this stuff than you.

...geological process for ya!
Mmmm. Thrust and cleavage never went so well together.
IMO, IANAL, etc.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he's talking about McDonalds.

No offense taken. I probably should've used 'eat' instead of 'get'--she was referring to when she was a lot younger (teens or so).
